I now have the greenlight to go for a 200 mile month. I only need 12 more miles than what I'm currently scheduled to do.

I'll be sure to update that on the spreadsheet and inform Cat.

Sorry. Tell you what. Let's split the difference... in case I blow up... and bump me from 150 to 175. The rest would be all gravy!

Deal.

It is usually preferrable to run after said daily event has occurred.

It is not too hard to find a loo during a race but out on a run, especially early in the morning, it can be a bit of a challenge. (This ties in nicely with your TP Thread BTW)

Nice running everyone

I'm trying to recall which one had her picture taken while in the middle of said event....  Think it was Deena, but it's been awhile, I could be wrong.

Here's an actual running question I could use some advice on:  I'm going to do the Shamrock 1/2 mary in March.  I plan on using one of the Hal Higdon 12 week training plans.  I've already done 3 1/2s.  Do I follow the beginner plan since I'm coming off injury or do I do the intermediate plan that includes some speedwork?  I won't be starting until December, so I have a little more time to get back into the running and build a better base before this starts.

I think it was Grete while silver medaling in the '84 Olympics.

Here is what I would do:

Figure out what my base would be at the start of the plan and make a decision as to which plan to use based on that. By base, I mean the sustainable weekly mileage that I would be comfortable running week in and week out. (Not Peak, not Cutback)

If it is at the upper end of the build phase of the plan, I would do the Intermediate and focus on quality. If it is closer to the entry mileage of the plan, I would go with the beginner plan and focus on volume.

The idea is to use your established base to either build mileage onto, or add speedwork to, but not both. (Especially since your comming off of injury)

Of course I am not a coach and a relatively new "Self Directed" runner. This is just what I would do and have done with training plans in the past.

I really like the Higdon plans and think that either one will prepare you well for your goal race and complete your recovery process. (These plans have really helped a lot of my friends get to the finish line)

Oh, and not certain what the extent of the injury is but be sure to keep your options open.

If the intermediate plan starts to wear you down too much, don't hesitate to switch plans.

Likewise, if you find the beginner plan to be unmotivating, then maybe consider moving to the intermediate plan.

Better safe than injured

Good advice in both posts.  I'm more interested in the intermediate plan because I find the beginner plan (straight mileage) to be fairly boring.  The idea of doing some speed work 1 or 2 times per week seems like it might help with the boredom.  I'm sure I'll be waffling on this for the next month or so.
