TR, my thoughts & prayers are with you this week. My parents live about an hr away, so luckily, I spend time with them in measured doses. Good luck to you and I hope your 3 alcoholic drinks per day policy helps. It does for me when one of my step children visits sometimes.

Stacie, enjoy the anticipation of your race this week. And your taper, too.

Bill, I'm glad you slept well. I did too.

Sharie, way to keep your power over yourself and your thoughts.

I have a long swim planned for today. There are no excuses to cut it short. Then laundry & housework and maybe a FUN trip to Walmart this afternoon. And I'm officially back on Weightwatchers, now that MD & BD are over. NO EXCUSES!!!!

Have a great day and happy training, Manatees!

Hi Manatees!

I loaned my "trainer" bike to a friend who is going to be doing his first tri in June. When I went to hook up my other bike to my trainer last night I found out the skewer wasn't the right size so it didn't work and I missed my bike workout. So I decided to make up for it today with a bike hill workout (my first).
It was a little windy but didn't worry about it because I didn't care about the time, just wanted to get a good route established with a benchmark for the future. I thought I made it up the "mountain" (just a foothill for those of you with real mountains) in pretty good shape, though my heartrate was a little high. Started down the other side and missed my turn. Pulled into the next street to turn around, slowed down a little too much...unclipped my left shoe....was leaning too far to the right...and fell down....in slow motion. No real damage to anything but my pride. Just one of those days.

Went home and ran a mile just to remember what a brick workout was. I never did understand that term. Do they call them bricks because that's what your legs feel like when you start running after being on the bike?

Hope you all had a great day!

Hi all. I am just popping in for a minute to say hi. I am a "single" mom this week as my hubby is out of town (again). We've been busy around here with birthdays and end of year recitals and whatnot. I am racing on Saturday, too. It's the Woman of Steel Utah race. I use the term racing loosely--I am hoping to survive and finish. I had such an intense focus before and slow recovery from the half marathon that my swim and bike training never really got started this year. But, I think it will all be ok. I did go do the run route Monday night, and I drove the bike route, so at least I have seen the route. Being able to visualize it is a big help for me pre-race. And, hubby should be home the day before the race, so that's another bonus.

Well, it's getting late here--and I have to get the kids up early to get the oldest to school at the crack of dawn. LOL. (((hugs))) everybody!

Good morning Manatees!

Just a quick check-in - I'm actually awake this morning before the folks so have at least a few moments to myself.

THANK YOU for your kind words and words of encouragement. It helps - it's nice to know I'm not the only one who has these feelings and stressors.

Things are going ok so far - no major fights yet, the weather is not cooperating so we are stuck inside (Pacific NW weather - rain rain and more rain) ... I managed to get in a good run yesterday, and am going to the pool this morning ... eating hasn't been too horrible ... yup - so far so good!

I'll be thinking of you guys who are racing this weekend - good luck! Have fun!

Sounds like you're managing very well. Good job. When I have difficult people around I tell myself not to get caught up in their drama...it's THEIRS, their issue, their stuff and the loud sucking sound is them trying to get us to buy into it and join them in their pain...I find offering compassion helps too. But, whatever you're doing....GOOD JOB and hang in there.

Stacie -- Are you squirrely today?   I won't be online much today, I'll be at work and then....at the POOL!!

have a great day everyone. Glad you're sleeping, Bill.

Stacie, your race will be here before you know it. Try to relax and rest mentally as much as physically. Take some long walks & do visualization of your race during every segment, transition, and the finish line. Good luck!

Just wanted to wish AMY and STACIE  a great race this weekend!!!!! Good luck and have a blast!

Also, I have 2 things I wanted to offer the ppl in this group first, before I go to the pay it forward thread in classifieds.

I have a size small DeSoto triathlon sports bra. It is a swimsuit-y material, with mesh vents on the side in a  sporty red, black and white. It is too small for me. It would fit a size 32-34 A or B. Mayyybee a C. Brand new, but hand washed once (it was dusty, lol).

And a Total Immersion VCR tape. It is an older version and I don't own a VCR anymore.

Just PM me and it is yours.

to be able to see what your doing and to see what you need to do to make your swim more efficient.

your gonna be super fly swimmer in no time flat.

Good morning, Manatees!

I hope everyone is having a nice morning. Stacie, I hope your brick went well. Lauren, I'm glad you were able to sell your
stuff.

The weather here looks bad. It keeps raining on & off. No lightning and thunder, though. I had a swim planned for today, but I think that's gonna be out of the question. The radar shows heavy rain & thunderstorms right over the pool. So rather than drive all the way over there to find it's violently storming, I think I'm just gonna put my bike on the trainer & hop on for an hr or so. At least I'll get some kind of workout in for today.

After that, I have some stuff in town I have to do, then it's off to the beach for the weekend. Tim is going to MS to plant for hunting season. It's gonna be a guy weekend for him. I have housework to do on the island. Hopefully the weather will improve enough for some beach time, but it's not looking too promising. Maybe I'll be able to get out early tomorrow
for a run. That's the plan, anyway. If not tomorrow, then Sunday.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Cathy

Best of luck to all you tri racers this weekend!! I hope the weather holds out for you all. And, Sharie -- best to your boy in his running. Those are the same events my son runs, plus long jump.

I found out that my pool will be closed for a week beginning next Wed. for some kind of mechanical changes and chlorine changes. Not sure what they're going to do or how it's going to change my swim experience. I'm supposed to do a tt for swim next week, as well as run and bike, too.

I'm also volunteering tomorrow at the San Diego Century for a few hours at an aid station. Should be fun and will get me fired up for my 2 1/2 hour ride on Sat. Got an hour and 20 min run slated for Sunday..and there you go, that's my weekend.

My wish for you racers this weekend:

After a miserable week with a cruddy cold...UGH..I am sooo frustrated....I was doing so well getting my workouts in and this week has been a total bust with feeling awful.  NOW I feel like I am behind the 8ball.... August is right around the corner...EEK!

bonus tho...got my brakes adjusted and my bike computer all installed before the bug took over so atleast I should be good to go.  National bike to work day is the 21st and I am thinking about doing it.  Only 5 miles to work tho the traffic is a bit daunting...might make a test run this weekend while it's quieter.

Hope everyone else is doing well and getting those workouts in...get to the pool Bill....

Thanks for the good luck wishes, everybody! My race went well. I did have to get off the bike and walk the last half of the hill on the second bike loop.  It's ok though. Let's just say I wasn't the only one walking a bike up that hill. I made it the first time without too much problem, but the second time around it got me. The official results haven't been posted yet, which is driving me nuts. My time was comparable to the tri I did last spring, if not a smidge better, but this bike was a mile longer, and the swim 60 meters shorter. I'll let you all know when I get the final results and post my RR.
