YIKES!!  Those are some scary times on a bike!  Sometimes I wonder about people driving.

Guess when I see a cyclist I am automatically cautious and give them lots of room.  I was following a guy on a bike last week on my way to OWS practice.  He was riding up this winding road.  I didn't have enough visibility around the turns to know if I could pass him safely so I hung back and let him climb the hills until it was safe.  BUT, as cyclists, we are more cautious of other riders than a lot of drivers.

I just had my plans adjusted since I won a entry into this weekends XTERRA race in Richmond, Va at a tri club mountain bike clinic.  What the heck is like a sprint so it should be a good workout.  Ride pretty technical, but I need to be careful on the bike and run.

So what is everyone up to this weekend?

I have just a few light workouts on tap, but between a wedding Saturday and Father's day Sunday I probably won't get too much done.

I'm hoping to get out of work a little early so I can go to a yoga class tonight.  Tomorrow I start my tenure as a marathon training pace leader!  My tri club meets at the beach on Saturdays to go swimming, so I might join them after the run for a cool-down ows, but that depends on if my training group wants to go to brunch Wink.  Then in the afternoon, I'll head home with my bike to visit the fam since sis is in from NYC and it's father's day on Sunday... Then group ride with the tri club Sunday morning (coincidentally, the area where my parents live is a favorite suburban hotspot for city cyclists to drive out to, so it's easier for me to come out for our club rides if I'm visiting the folks!  Which of course, my mom loves, haha.)  Not sure if we're actually celebrating father's day on Sunday since sis is flying back out that day, but if we are, it'll be a lunch thing.

Got a local sprint tri on Sunday.  Should be fun.  I've done it every year since it started and this will be the 4th year.  It's always fun to race on home ground.

Light weekend for me.  Hoping to get a run in on Saturday morning before we head up to Sacramento to celebrate Father's Day with my Dad.

Have a good one everyone!

No plans for me....it's going to be beastly hot which makes the whole breathing thing kinda miserable.  Whatever I feel up to is what I'm planning on!  Right now that amounts to sleeping in the sun to work on tan lines that DON'T include bike shorts....

At least I have an appointment scheduled with the pulmonary people!

Good luck Briana!

Be careful out there!  So many close calls for so many people.  Bright colors help some but distracted drivers don't see anything until it is right in front of them.  I have been nearly clipped by side mirrors numerous times.  We choose our routes carefully but still have to ride defensively and pay attention to every single car/truck/tractor.

Step back week on the marathon plan so just a 3 and 4 miler this weekend and a bike.  Hoping for a swim too!

Happy training and racing this weekend.  Happy Father's Day to all of the Dads!

Well, I am racing(particpating would be a better description) Sunday. Ozark Valley Triathlon, 1000 yard swim, 19 mile ride, 4 mile run. It is fairly hilly course which give me some concern. I just need to make sure I manage my race and don't burn out by run. I know I will not podium so what difference does it make if the swim and bike are slow, so I can manage run.

Goals
1. Have fun
2. Control heart rate on swim and bike, so can I mange run.
3. Have fun
4. Finish
5. Have fun
6. No DFL

The race is at Lake Wedington Rec Area, I pulled camper up last nite with kiddos, today rest day of camping, sun, swimming, fishing and fun! I need to be sure to drink plenty high today 96.

Race report Monday.

So I finally got a round to putting on my new tires. I had bought the conti grand prix 4000 in the blue a while back. I think this should hopefully fix my rash of flats I was having. I noticed when I took my old tires off and throughly inspected them that the rear tires side walls were starting to fray and pull away. The front one wasn't bad, but if I am putting on new tires, I think its better to change out both of them.

I have a question. I am only going to put like 50-70 miles on these new tires before I have my first race, a duathlon with an 11 mile bike. Is it going to be ok to race on these? I was thinking that the tires might have a little less grip around cornering because there not worked in yet but I really don't know. So any advice would be helpful.

After pre-riding, I decided not to do the race.  Just too hard for a beginner mountain biker.  Going to run instead.

I did just under 35 minutes on my 5k this morning (I think).  I haven't seen results and it is a small local race, so not sure when I will.  My two goals were first and foremost, try not to walk, which I didn't, and try to do better than the last race, which I did.

It was a little more hilly than my previous races, but what the heck, I need help on the hills.  These 5k still seem really hard to me.  I have to push to keep going and I have to push to not walk.  I am not sure if race day has me running a little faster or what it is, but darn glad I didn't do the 10k. There would've been walking.

Then headed over to Moms for pancakes and bacon.  Awesome!

Hope everyone had fun this weekend and did well

I think you should be fine.  When I bought race wheels last year I think I only had 50-60 miles on them before my first race and didn't notice a difference performance-wise.

Getting a little tired of yoga but I promised I wouldn't do anything cardio until I see the pulmonary guy on Wednesday.  IF he gives me a green light to train again I will probably have to stay on the trainer & tready for a bit cause these high temps and humidity are bad news on the lungs.

Did something to my lower back Saturday and got worried I wouldn't be able to race Sunday.  Spent most of Saturday stretching, rolling on the foam roller, sitting on tennis balls, etc.  Even took a hot bath with Epson salt.  Got up Sunday morning for the race and the back was still hurting.  Figured I could get through the swim and bike but may have to walk the run.  Turns out adrenaline kicked in and during the race the back cooperated (for the most part - felt it some transitioning from the bike to the run and for about the first 1/2 mile on the run).  Ended up beating my time from last year by almost 2 minutes and came in 5th in my age group at 1:25:52.  Very happy with the effort overall, but just happen to be in a competitive age group.  The overall woman winner was in my age group.  Back is still bothering me today so I'm going to see who I can get in to see.  If nothing else, I'll be at the chiro this afternoon.

I had a pretty interesting a weekend!  First, there was a really bad storm Friday night causing a power outage at work.  I left work when it looked like there was a lull in the storm, but it was still raining pretty hard and the roads were full of debris.... So of course this means both my tires flatted   Luckily there was a bike shop nearby so I just had them change my flats.  By the time I was ready to go, the storm had finished.

Saturday was my first long run with my marathon training group.  I'd volunteered to be a pace leader so I was a little worried about the responsibility... but it looks like I have a good group full of first-timers, so it should be a fun summer of training.  Sunday was my long ride-- 52 miles.  I was aiming for 60-something but had to cut it short because I was running late to father's day brunch Embarassed  I should have either started earlier, or rode faster, haha.
