Use Northing/Easting coordinates and the math is pretty simple (two subtractions, two squares, an addition, and a square root).

Ummmmm ... not so simple for us poor English major types.  *Scratches my head and says huh*  :P
What she said! To quote Dory, I'll just keep swimmin'! Although I could go the Garmin route.

Maybe this helps...

The equation is the Pythagorean Theorem used to calculate the hypotenuse of a right-triangle.

Ree-       CONGRATS on your first 1000 in the pool! Sweet.
GMRGirl- Cold Turkey might be the way to go, watch out for triggers! For me it was always drinking.
Maybe a quitting smoking group or support program would make it easier? Also, there's got to be a ton on info on the web and tips you can pick up to make it easier. I feel for ya.
Zee744- Thanks for the "Total Immersion" recommendation. I'll check it out.
Icemanscott- same with the Mr. Smooth site, sounds helpful.
Suzimmer- I'm going to look into taking some lessons when I get back in the water... I think you're proly right about working on my form to improve speed, technique is important in all 3 sports we do but is SO much more complicated with swmming, ARGUE!
ingleshteechur- x4 SWIM SWIM SWIM!!!  Or you could strap this baby onto your wrist and then swim swim swim while getting some feedback:
 http://www.finisinc.com/s.nl/c.1144330/it.A/id.81/.f
It uses new technology to identify your swim, analyzes your pace times, distance, stroke count, stroke rate, distance-per-stroke, calories burned...
McFuzz- Your Pythagorean Theorem lake map and the part where you say "simple, two subtractions, two squares, an addition, and a square root" made me lol. Good stuff.

NY got another dumping of snow last night. I wanna get some ice cleats for my sneaks this week :)

HAPPY TRAINING EVERYONE

Buffedstuff - 2011-01-11 10:22 PM Hello everyone,  I hope you wonderful people are focused on your goals and working to make them a reality. I did indeed complete my second half marathon in WDW on Saturday. The entire experience was a wild ride and I  gained valuable information from elite athletes who were more than willing to help a old chick out, even if I do happen to be a young whippersnapper when it comes to running.

Keep on "Tri"ing everyone one Wink

Congrats!  That's a fun event, glad you enjoyed it.

ingleshteechur - 2011-01-07 8:16 AM Just a quick observation from my run this morning now that I'm using a heart rate monitor:  I LOVE IT!  I have been a runner for years and years and have done just fine without it, but my heart rate info is telling me I could have been working so much harder than I have.  It's changed my workouts...I feel so much more focused staying within a certain zone, etc.  As a new runner I don't think I'd really understand how to use it to my advantage, but I sure do now!

I'm trying to get used to my heart rate monitor also.  I'm not sure what zones I need to be staying within yet, but hopefully I'll figure it out soon.

laurak11 - 2011-01-12 11:55 AM Just checking in on everyone... How are is your training going?? strengths/weaknesses?

-started p90x- lets just say my abs, legs, butt, back, and shoulders are VERY sore. I probably haven't been this sore since 3-a-days when I played college vball.
-IM training going well. Tweaked a few workouts here and there but def sticking to it. Just ordered a new tri outfit for the IM. 2 out 3 bike shorts have holes in them :P

-strength- haven't drank in 10 days!! That's an accomplishment b/c I was drinking probably 3 times a week during the holidays (super stressed).
-weakness- still not sleeping well. Getting about 6 hrs a night, and then taking a nap. I'm going to try to get 7 hr straight which will be hard since I'll be working nights th-sun.

Great job on the new training program.  I've heard the P90X can be brutal.  Cry Not sure if I could attempt it yet.

* Strength - Learned how to swim, run & bike!!! I've cut back on the alcohol, salt, & caffeine.

* Weakness -  I struggle to get to sleep & stay a sleep throughout the night, and then if I have a morning workout planned for the next day then I can't usually do it, because I just fell asleep an  hour or so ago, and I'm dog tired.

Um...(in a public kinda way...)how have you managed to wear out bike shorts like this???  My bibs have holes, but that's due to the unfortunate incident at IMCdA.  My first two pairs of bike shorts from 2006 are still in pretty good shape... and yes, I've ridden almost 5000 miles in the last 5 years so it isn't lack of use (that red font is the sarcasm font)

Glad the year is going well for you!  IM training will get you that much-needed continuous sleep from the instant your head hits the pillow until your alarm tells you it's time to start a new day!

So def my first pair that I bought last year were cheap $20 sports store shorts.... I wore them every day in St. Maarten last Jan during my hour bikes and washed and dried them in the sun... Trained for an IM all year... Then wore them in St. Thomas in Oct everyday for my hour bike and same w/ washing them. My other pair aren't really "worn out" just split at the crotch seam which I can fix.

I hope that the IM training can give me sweet dreams

I hope your IM training will give you sweet dreams too girlfriend!Wink

** Hello all my fellow McFuzzies **

Thank you everyone for all of the kudo's on my swim yesterday.  I really appreciate it.  You're awesome! Laughing

FYI ... I've down loaded Podrunner & tried it tonight on my run, and I must say I TOTALLY LOVE IT!!!!

I also wanted to let you know that I'm enjoying a fruit smoothie right now as I'm writing this. The more fruit that you put in the more it will help ward of the munchies.  The milk and fruit will help keep you full.  ( Weight Watcher Tip ) I'm thinking that I could enjoy one of these a day. Smile

I hope you all have a rockin' good workouts this week, stay strong & make it happen!!

I love love love Podrunner!  It's almost the non-music music solution, if that makes sense.  Whenever I run with it I just go off into la la land and my feet just naturally fall into rhythm.  I run in the desert though, so there are no cars, bikes, small children in my la la land that I could accidentally crash into.  Just some sagebrush and an occassional herd of antelope.  Play around with all the different bpms...it's great.

I need to check out the pod runner, eh?  And what about scorpions and rattlers.  They would make me go faster.

The rattlesnakes and scorpions are a bonus in entertainment!  I usually come across three or four a summer...I just give them wide berth, look at them a bit, and then keep running.  What's really fun is chasing lizards and horny toads.  Can't wait for it to get warm again to see my little buddies!

So this is what happens when there's a blizzard in NY...3 more pages to the thread! Got hit with more than a foot of snow here. No work yesterday and a terrible internet connection all day. Was able to get into our group forum, type a comment, then my connection said "nah, I don't feel like sending your message."

Glad to see everyone is doing well so far. Keep it up!

I was out for about 1 1/2 hrs shoveling yesterday and got in a short bike before I was exhausted. Today is my typical lunch run and a bike tonight with some "Hard Core" as well (which if you haven't tried I would suggest, its a great core workout on BT, just search "hard core" in the articles).

I was out in Tucson, AZ in '03 and went on numerous hikes with my family. We ran into a familyfrom my home town (which is only like 7,000 peoples, so very strange) and went on a hike with them the next day. When we were just about back, the father of the family was walking backwards talking to everyone not really paying attention to what he was doing, then turned around and started walking forwards again. Well, when he turned, he never noticed it, but he stepped directly over about a 6ft rattlesnake curled up sleeping in the middle of the path!

We saw 3 rattlesnakes and 2 gila monsters in the wild over the 7 days we were there. My uncle has lived there for years and has only seen a handful of gila monsters in the wild. Quite the experience!

I was working yesterday and ended up getting an extra half mile run in the snow!  A subject decided to get out a gun and point it at everybody in his house.  We showed up and the person ran out the front door.  The chase was on !  We ran through back yards, over fences and railroad tracks.  We went for approx. a half mile and the subject (20 plus years younger) finally fell to the ground in exhaustion....lol.  I thought to myself "Damn, I hadn't even broken a sweat yet!".  One of the many reason that I TRI.

I'm curious? Can I add a section under other sports in the log?           Chasing a subject with gun.

Nate:  Wow...that's crazy...good thing it was sleeping!  I'll tell you what, I'll never forget the first time I heard a rattlesnake rattle while running. Scared the bejesus out of me.  I've learned to listen for it.  I did watch in horror one time as my four legged running buddy, Hairy Potter (RIP  :-( ) trotted right over top of a coiled and rattling rattlesnake.  Oh geez...that's not how he died though!  I just realized how that sounded.  He lived for many years after that! For whatever reason, the snake didn't strike.
