Question for TAN:

How do you all deal w/rude people? People who just…say mean things…I guess for a thrill? Never have understood people like this. i choose to ignore them…but, anyone else have any advice?

Exactly that. Water off my back. I try to not let other people bring me down

Yea, i agree. and sometimes, i feel sad for people who have nothing nice to ever say to another.

Exactly. Actually, I'm dealing with that right now. My grandpa is getting frustrated in his old age, and has decided that no one is doing anything right, so he constantly is telling everyone what they are doing wrong. We have all gotten much better with dealing with rude/negative people through this.

But if that is how they want to waste their energy, that's up to them. I'm not gonna get dragged down with them.

Take the high road and kill 'em with kindness.
Especially if it's over email and other people are Cc'd. It will quickly become apparent who the a-hole is.

Well, huh. Guess I'll be looking for a new job harder than I thought. That's the silver lining to getting laid off, right?

oh no...you're being laid off?

Sure am. Just got given my 2 weeks. It's amazing here... we are behind schedule, which means we're losing money... so they are laying 15 people off. Like that's going to help them get on schedule.

that said. things do happen for reasons. sometimes, better reasons. you know? you seem like a positive person, i have a feeling, this may be a blessing in disguise.

That's exactly it. This is the second time. First time was a HUGE blessing. This time, I think it will be, too

Lisa, after 3 years of working here, I get the privilege of working for the next 2 weeks and being paid for it. Awesome package, right?

Cord... It's a thought, but a batch to get a job/visa, and I am just now eligible for my professional license, so I'll probably stick around.

I laugh at them.  Seriously, they say something rude and you just laugh in their face.  They just don't understand and it confuses them.

IE, the sandle incident earlier.  He says that and you just laugh at him and walk away.  It probably pizzes them off that you are not taking them seriously.  I love getting under someones skin if they are jerks.

Financially, it's a good move.  They don't have to pay 15 people all the holiday time.  That's why I have no hopes for getting anything untill 2012.  No one will hire me on, just to pay for the holidays two weeks later.  But it does feel a bit "Scroog-ish"

I just read an article saying that Miami, LV, and LA are 3 of the worst job markets right now.

see? ur positive attitude will turn everything around.

but job hunting...blah. that isn't so fun. i'm doing that, now.

we can commiserate together.

@ kido...you have been out of work for 9 months? oh wow. sorry to hear.

I don't mind not working, but the wallet and savings are not a big fan!  There is just no market for civil engineers on the west coast (I include Vegas and Pheonix, etc).  Mostly east coast and I heard up north.

Oh, no no... I appreciate the sympathy. I know what you've been going through, so I know that you can really sympathise.

I'm not sure you'll be a lot of help... I am a civil engineer Though I don't want to do that, I am not a designer at heart. I have a couple leads on project management jobs up here that I am goign to be following up on, but my real passion would be to work in sports in some, any aspect.
