Morning, all!

Got in a 7 mile run with hills this morning, and I plan on lifting and swimming tonight.  I never miss a run or a bike - ever - but I always seem to miss swims and gym time.  I really need to be consistent, even if I'm only doing 1200 m and 30 minutes of lifting.

I've been having a smoothie after my morning workout, and today I decided to add kale to the mix.  I put in plain Greek yogurt, a banana, a scoop of whey, almond milk, and a huge handful of kale.  I was concerned about how it would taste, and the smoothie was an ugly green color, but it tasted great!!!  I think it's a keeper.  I'm happy to add more nutrients to the mix

Have a great day.

So inspired by Kelly's marathon idea I signed up to run the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon in June. I'm in town that weekend for a wedding on the Friday, and San Diego is my hometown so I'm really looking forward to running a big race there.

This will be my second stand alone marathon (third marathon overall if you count the IM, which I do!). Goal will be to PR and go sub 5 hours - my first marathon was a 5:20 so it's an aggressive but doable goal. To get there I'll need to drop some weight and run a lot. Plan to follow Hal Higdon's Intermediate 1 plan which will start on January 30th. Feels good to have a big race on the schedule again.

Awesome!  That's exciting!

1500 of intervals this morning.  Getting a drainer/dreadmill interval workout in later.  Looks like it's interval day LOL.  I've been tracking my cals lately too, and started fasted workouts this week again.  It's felt really good so far.  It is really good to be back in the pool.  I can feel spurts of my form being right and then sputs of not so much.

It's about to get cold here again.  Going to be in the 30s this weekend.  I need to man up and get an outdoor ride in anyway.

Oh forgot.  I'm started using the app my fitness pal to track cals.  Really easy to use.  Way over estimates the caloric impact of exercise, but what doesn't.

I'm on myfitnesspal too - look me up! DDVMM! Love the app. I've been really good about tracking for the last 2 weeks!

Jay (rocktractor) is big in to the smoothies. He bought one of those fancy high-dollar blenders and blends everything now. He tricked me in to eating some spinach ice cream he made!

Amazingly, you can't taste the spinach at all.

Ha, I feel like such a slacker in the morning when I check this thread - all you folks on the east coast who do am workouts are already done with your workouts before I even wake up. Smile

Went to my new Master's team workout again last night. Did tons of fly, breast and back along with some free. I'm just learning fly so it was challenging but I had so much fun! Core and arms are a bit sore today. Happy I found a team where I can really push myself and hopefully become a faster and more well rounded swimmer. Planning to run for 30-40 min tonight after work.

I know!  It's crazy...I thought it would taste like raw veggies (not exactly something I want at 6:30 a.m.), but it tasted like fruit and yogurt.  Yummy!  I am going to experiment and try different things.  My aunt gave me a huge bag of pea protein, and I am going to switch over to that once my canister of whey is gone.  It may be in my head, but I swear I have more energy when I make one of these smoothies after that morning workout.

Kelly -  I will take a picture tomorrow and post.  I'm sure some of the big meat eaters here will cringe.  Haha.

not quite sure yet, i am sure i will get more info, but basically just raise awareness of the organization and their cause.  This one kinda hit home, i had only submitted two apps, i really wanted to be a part of a philanthropic endeavor this year, and this seemed like a worthy cause.

Got in some stength training at gym today. and 20 mins of stair climber, only because they only have the sit down bikes.  blah!! Plan to get on trainer tonight and tomorrow.  Tomorrow will be my last day most likely, as I should probably take Thursday off to assure there is no chance of dehydration going into surgery. I am not looking forward to Friday afternoon, when I am driving home from surgery. Getting there, and being put under, I have no fear of, Ive done it plenty of times, as sad as that sounds.

I really hope to find a way to at least get on the bike trainer within 7-10 days post surgery. I'll keep everyone posted. Luckily I am a pretty forgiving person, but the closer I get to surgery, the angrier I get at the darn Meth Addcit that hit me!! God bless her!!!

On a positive note, I just ate a "fun size" Snickers Peanut Butter.  Diet has been exceptionally well, until someone just threw that on my desk.  Mix one of those in your Kale shake Jen!!!  I won't tell anyone!

Thanks Captain

Basically this organization helps support families that have just birthed children that are terminally ill and families that lose children during childbirth.

They supply rocking chairs to these families and help support the families that have had a child pass. A lot of what they do is at the hospital birthing units or NICU units for hospitals, as many of these children do not ever make it home.

Why it touched me was i have had friends and family that have lost newborns or had still births, when my wife and I had our daughter, there was an infant that was born with most of the internals outside, to this day i have no idea if it had survived or not, its not like you go in and ask the family how they are doing.  This organization helps in the time the child is alive and helping the family cope with all the after effects when it passes.

My role will be to raise awareness by talking and explaining what the team and organization does and i have a fundraising goal that i have to meet.

As i put in my application i was asked what kind of charitable work i have done and i realized i do not do a lot of philanthropic activities, I am quite fortunate and have a pretty good life, so i felt it was time for me to start giving back, so i applied and got in.

you can get more information here  www.eleonorerocks.org if you are interested.

Rizer - pb snickers, yum!  Hang in there, you'll be back training in no time.  The sooner the surgery takes place, the sooner you'll recover.  Let us know how surgery goes.

I understand how emotionally conficted you must be about the accident.  I would feel the same.  What has your doctor said about the return to physical acitivity?  We'll be thinking of you on Friday.  Please let us know how the surgery went once you are feeling up to it.
