Had planned on 6 x 500 in the pool, but horrible migraine at 2:24am had other ideas.  Barely made it to work, but starting to feel a little more human.  Yoga tonight or maybe swimming if I'm feeling better.

Weather looks good for the weekend, so I think I'll do a local 10k on Sunday to see where I'm at. Haven't done a stand-along 10k in about 3 years.

everlong - 2012-04-26 9:17 AM So last week was that first week of the volume that I seem to crash at. This week the plan was to add 10% but I'm just not going to get there. I'm probably going to end up losing 5% but I'm actually ok with that because the last two times it was worse. Hopefully next week I can maintain or build on this week. If I can that will be the highest volume for my three week cycle. I definitely feel fatigued but not the crash I've had before. Wish me luck.

What plan are you following?

Skipped my ride today, just didn't have the energy.

Got a LT test on my run planned tomorrow so we'll see how that changes my HR zones. Also going to look at that bike I posted about tomorrow evening.

Do you have a trainer or do you just ride on the road? If a trainer you should try doing a low intensity recovery ride where you keep your heart rate at the lower edge of zone one as your top effort. If you have to do it outside do the same thing but on the flattest course possible. I feel so much better after I do this vs skipping a workout and usually if I ride the next day I feel my legs are refreshed. It doesn't have to be a long ride and is generally better if it isn't. 30-60 minutes is the sweet spot for me.

Thanks...I did at least ride my mtb to Subway to get a sandwich vs driving, so got my legs to spin a little bit (even though it's only about 3 miles round trip).

I do have a trainer but prefer to ride on the road 99% of the time.

4 x 700m done.  Coffee time for me, too

I had absolutely no mojo in the pool today.  I hadn't been to the pool in a week, so I'm not surprised.  My sinuses were killing me, too, and I left a nice snot trail in lane 2.  Feeling pretty bad for the folks who swam after me.

Damn Scott, Jen just tried to squish you like a little bug there!!  Just like her avatar, she looks ready to kill!!  Who am I anyway, I still have no clue what swimming is!!  Friday night after work will be my first swim since September 2011.  This should be really interesting.

Ha ha!  He is tapering anyway.  So, you are able to start swimming again?  Woohoo!!

I just do what I'm told to man.  Female coach, wife, 2 daughters, female dog.  I've been beaten into submission.  Maybe my next kid can be a boy and I can convert the pink bedroom upstairs into a nursery/man cave.

LOL.  I am surrounded by dudes.  I'm raising 3 little dudes and 1 little girl who acts like a dude.  Pokemon, Star Wars, lightsabers, legos, and rough housing (I HATE the rough housing).  The bedroom walls are shades of blue and green and brown.  Later on it will be football, chicken wings (eeewwwww), and man farts.  Sorry to generalize, fellas, but that's how I see it.  Anyway, my house needs a little pink!

My daughters' farts are SOOOOOO much worse than mine.  And they think it's pretty damn funny.  Other than that Jen I can't refute anything there other than there are better options than chicken wings for football.  I always feel guilty after eating chicken wings.  It's weird.

What plan are you following?

The Everlong make it up as you go special plan. Sealed

My schedule between work and the kids is so complicated I don't think I could stick to a set plan. I make adjustments all week long based upon what comes up and how I feel, etc. I do stick to a basic structure.

Last week as an example.

Sunday: 1:20 run, 9.14 miles at 144 average heart rate. First three miles on the slow side to warm up. Next three miles average pace. Last 3+ at a faster pace.

Monday: 90 minute bike with some longer intervals thrown in. 29.5 miles at 144 average HR.

Tuesday: 100 minute bike with some hill work but mostly z1+2 work at 140 average HR and 32 miles. Then a 40 minute z1 run of 4.29 miles and 134 average HR.

Wednesday: Hour of masters swim and 3000 yards. Hour z1 run of 6.21 mile and 129 average heart rate.

Thursday: 50 minutes on the trainer at 118 average heart rate, 50 minute z1 run at 133 average heart rate and 5.36 miles.

Friday: Bike 3:05 and 56 miles at 131 average HR. Outside with a wide range of flats and hills. I treated the hills like I would for a race keeping the cadence higher and not powering up them.

Saturday: Trainer for 53 minutes at 118 average HR, 67 minute swim for 3000 yards doing lots of drill work with a few intervals thrown in.

S:

2h 07m
B:
146.65 Mi
8h 00m
R:

I rounded some things off in my daily descriptions to keep it simple but that's basically the way most weeks go. Where I was on vacation I did have more workouts than normal but they were smaller.

My oldest daughter who's nine had the fastest mile in her third grade class this morning at 6:45. Very proud of her. Nobody else was within 30 seconds. She did a 5K last month at 9:18 pace and would have been much faster had she started at the 8 or 9 minute flag. My wife made her start with her at the 12 minute flag and there were 3000 runners on narrow roads that made her have to weave to do a lot of passing.

Something about people eating wings and licking their fingers makes my stomach turn.  Perhaps that's the vegetarian in me.  Since I control the food in this household, I will probably prepare my guys some grilled tofu kabobs and yam fries for their football snacks.  I'm pretty sure they'll hate me

I'm pretty sure I'm coming down with a virus of flu.  My back has been killing me today, but I thought I did a funky flip turn this morning and messed it up.  Now I have the chills and my eyes burn.  My chest hurts a little when I take a deep breath.  My mom is visiting this weekend, I am doing a HR test on the run (5k), and my children's art is displayed in a show on Sunday.

I'd better shake it off.

4 x 4 x 100 main set.  Feeling that good kind of hurt.  Hands hurting, Stitches in the side.  Held my pace through the final 100.  Wanting more but also really glad it was time to stop.

Aero Helmet? I also have the wingspan.  LIke the fit and the option to change the air flow by pluging the vents in the front.  Fully closed for sprint and oly, Open for long course and hot hot days.

Looking forward to hot days.  Seattle is back in the rain cycle.  That means more trainer rides after work  less sprints to the county park sign.

Lock yourself in a room with some Lysol and Tamiflu.  Ugh.

Just finished up my last real workout before the race.  Damn good workout.  Still a little nervous about hitting my split coming out of the water, but there are now no nerves for the bike or run.  2 out of 3 ain't bad.

It looks like you might need a few rest days during the week.  Not total rest days, but days that are easier both volume and intensity wise.  Also it looks like you do hard workouts back-to-back-to-back (take your Sun-Mon-Tue block).

My guess is that its not the volume that getting to you but rather you lack of recovery on a day-to-day basis.

Agreed on the Sun-Tue being too much intensity back to back. That actually is rare and a result of my being greedy and wanting to take advantage of the really nice weather. I'd love to take a day off every week but I just don't see how I'd fit the volume in. I'm forced to do 90% of my workouts before work or on the weekends before the rest of the house is up. The other 10% are lunch workouts at work.

My intensity has been less this week than last but I'll dial it back a bit more. Thanks for the reply. If you start using your level one I'd be interested in working with you especially if I decide to go IM next year.
