The guy born Yvonne Buschbaum, the champion pole vaulter, is so freakin' hot. I know everyone makes such a big deal of it because he is so hot, but still. He is.

Speaking of track, field, gender, hotness, and hockey ... HOW WAS IT??? I keep salivating for updates and you've been under the weather and busy and all that, but but but ... I've been very patient.

Ughhhhh hockey. It's what catapulted me to my absolute last straw. We were playing a college team, so it wasn't easy peasy. We didn't get creamed but we didn't win either. Unfortunately we were just a hodge-podge of ladies put together that had no experience playing with one-another so it took us some time to adjust. Once we started playing well (finally), the college girls got nasty. I got hit from behind and saw stars. So hard, in fact, my chin strap was pulled all the way up to my nose. Ouch. Mainly I was just starting to get sick and just didn't have my normal spark, ya know?

Oh yeah, I also had a tire blowout on the freeway on the way over, baaaarely made it to the game on time.

Alright, that all sounds so Debbie Downer. I should add that I got to spend some FANTASTIC time with family and also went running along the river one day (gorgeous) and then the next day out at the wildlife reserve where we saw Coyotes and birds (swans even) and lots of other furry friends. Veeery cool, even though I was feeling like absolute sh*t.

Young, Hot drunken jailbirds

I'm not even fussy about the young part ... I had a one-night stand with a much older drunken jailbird that turned into a seven-year relationship requiring legal dissolution at the end.

And we couldn't even agree on whether it was six years or seven.

By the end of this relationship, I kicked him out of our place and moved in with his mother AND KEPT THE DOG. Oh, burn!

You batch. Mom and dog? In my limited experience ... those things are important to men.

Most amazing dog ever. I left him with her when I moved to Los Angeles, and he wound up being her service dog after she was mostly wheelchair-bound to the end of his days.

Skrat, Chad, Dude, Homey, Buddy, a-hole, jerk, sh*t head.... I've been called a lot of things, but I have to admit, "Skrat" (you are the only one who calls me that) is one of my favorites.

Mad Manatees, hellloooo!  I know I said I wanted to be in on this next mentor round, I'm hoping I didn't get ejected for being MIA in January.  can please still be a part of the pod?

I've really ratcheted up the training, signed up for a "challenging" course half marathon (read: BIG HILLS) in 7 weeks, and am contemplating a fall marathon.  So, since I've been away, I might have lost my mind!

I'll scroll through the posts, but I hope everyone else's 2013 is off to a great start!!

Seriously, people, I'm disappointed in you.  Why are we sitting around talking about hot guys and dogs when I have to run a race in the snow tomorrow!  Sheesh...get your priorities straight.

Hey you! Welcome back!! I think the Manatee rule is "once a Manatee, always a Manatee."  BIG HILLS do not sound like fun! Have you been doing lots of hill workouts?  You know, had you been here and asked if you should do it, we would have said "DO EEEET!", right?

I'm running my race tomorrow in the ghetto. It's the neighborhood adjacent to the one I live in. I say ghetto with a sense of fondness, because I really DO love this area but, much like S&M or mountain climbing, some risks are worth the payoff.

The third weekend of the month is crazy busy for us with church stuff, plus I've got a 3 hour ride and an hour-and-a-half run to fit in. Not to mention I'm not prepared to feed four extra people!!!!!!!

I hear ya!  Seventeen days so far and another six weeks to go.

Time to use and abuse - we've asked her to babysit Sat night.  We are going to do dinner and a movie.  Nothing romantic I really wanna see Zero Dark Thirty!

It's not 'use and abuse', it's called EARNING HER KEEP!!   A very small favor to ask of her in exchange for you housing/feeding/tolerating her.  Enjoy date night!

I do know that! I think it was that manatee spirit that conned me into pushing "register."  And NOPE, I have not been hill training.  I think I should probably start!!  Although there's no shame in walking up it if it comes to that...which it likely will!
