788 Across the river from Memphis, Tennessee | Subject: RE: 2015 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4- Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open Originally posted by ceilidh I am heading to Pensacola tomorrow to cheer on a couple of friends doing IMFL. My mentor and his family are on the way down there now. If you see the OMG bright yellow shirts with #TeamFerris on it... that's them. This is his first IM distance, and he's been busting his tail getting ready. |

Extreme Veteran 809 Central New Jersey | Subject: RE: 2015 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4- Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open Thanks Robin. Have fun in Florida. I know what you mean about jinxing yourself when you post goals. My only goal is to just get a workout in, not necessarily the distance the plan calls for. I figure anything is absolutely better than what I had been doing, and don't want to risk reinjuring the Achilles or injuring something else along the way. With that said, 20 minutes at an easy pace on the trainer felt really good to do and then added some TRX instead of weights. Day 2/20 done! |

Regular 1777 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: 2015 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4- Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open So far this week 2 short runs, and 1 long one. My long run was a disaster, I'm not 100% sure why, but I bonked very hard in the last half hour, up to 1 minute/km slower than I had been expecting. I think it was due to not eating an after work snack of any sort before the run, but not sure. Tonight, it's officially the start of summer for me. I'm off to the beach for an open water swim event, I'll be doing the 500m option. Tried on the wetsuit for the first time in 2 years last night, it fights... just... but I'm looking forward to tonight, it's going to be fun to be back in the water. |

We all have bad runs, and trust me, I've had my fair share. Normally mine are 1 of 2 reasons. First is nutrition. You have to really make sure you are consuming enough calories during the run. You need to take those in BEFORE you start to feel like you need it. If I start to feel that tingling in my head then I know it's past time and I need a gel or some sport beans. Second reason for me, is my own head. I start over. Thinking everything. Especially on those long lonely runs when there's nothing to do but think. That's when I start counting steps or zoning out to music. I need to find something to distract myself. Put the bad run behind you, keep moving forward and go get the next one! |

Yeah, it was just one bad run. I'm not concerned unless it becomes a pattern. My short run the day after felt great, nice and fast and feeling relatively easy. (Well fast by my current standards) I'll make sure to eat a little before next weeks long run and hopefully, that'll fix the issue. |

Scored 2.5 miles in 43:12 between bells. That's faster than usual. Sweaty and satisfied, I returned to face my last two periods of the day. Of course, they are also the best two classes of the day, in this particular classroom. |

Regular 1777 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: 2015 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4- Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open Well, my first OWS since December 2013 was pretty much a success. I finished the 500m in 9:50, for 19/65 over all, 10/35 male and 2/3 for my age group (Of course the quick swimmers are doing the longer courses, but I'll take it!). I felt I sighted pretty well, and didn't weave around off course too much. I did get a bit caught up in the melee, I think I probably would have been faster if I had tried to swim around the group, not through it. Over all a successful night, and a good practice run for Sundays Tri. And for some inter hemisphere jealousy, here are some photos of last night: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1152678631415694.107374187... |

Guesstimating 35mins in the water for 1100 free and 2x50 kick (heavy cramping, both feet) Ummm Make that Friday... Working Fri must have thrown me off... For the week: Swim: 1200/1500yds. Not hard to make up as I get back in the swim of things... Bike: Still nada. It's been 29 days since I've been in the saddle. Life interferes with weekend rides, and using the trainer is just... ugh... Run: 4/6 runs (better) for a total of 4.09mi in 50:26. 9:34 Short for the days I ran, plus the 2 days/30:00 I missed. Ugh This morning was a complete bust. No bike, no run and no time to weigh. |

This is his first IM distance, and he's been busting his tail getting ready. Phil, my mentor and friend, is now officially an Ironman! Bib: 2143 Swim: 1:28:18 (2:17/100m) T1: 15:57 Bike: 7:39:54 (14.61mi/h) T2: 12:36 Run: 6:32:08 (14:58/mi) Total: 16:08:53 His estimated finish was 15:00:00. I haven't heard from him directly yet, but the swim looks like it went as expected, maybe a touch slow. The bike was estimated at 8-8.5 hrs. His run is what got him. The first 2 splits were in his normal 11:00-12:00 pace, but he slowed way up after that with one split being 16:57/mi pace. The only important thing at this point is that he crossed the finish line in time allowed. |

Regular 1777 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: 2015 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4- Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open So, after Sunday morning, I'm officially a triathlete again. First one in about 2 years. My goal going in was firstly to finish, 2ndly to try and enjoy myself and see how my fitness is coming along. I did no tapering of any sort building up to the race, as its not a targeted event for me. The course was the standard sprint distances 500m swim, 20km bike and 5km run (4.7km according to my garmin) My expected times were 10 minutes for the swim, 45-50 for the bike, and 35 plus for the run, plus a few minutes for transitions, for a total of 1 hour 30-40 I might do a proper race report, but the cliff notes version is: Swim 9:09 Bike 49:57 Including both transitions (45:45 actual riding according to the garmin) Run 28:49 Total, 1:27:55 Very very happy with my weekends effort. I did not expect to do so well, especially on the run. (the course was short, but I was still 30 sec/km faster than my most optimistic hope) For those who like pictures, https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.953413414730499.1073741840... |

15 | Subject: RE: 2015 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4- Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open I finished my first sprint Tri today. I didn't know what to expect, but had a great time and now have the bug big time. The swim was a bit easier than I had anticipated and felt great going into the bike. There was a strong wind in my face during the first half of the bike, I made the turn thinking I would make up some time with the wind behind me. I got a flat with about 3 miles left and spent about 25 mins taking care of that problem, just my damn luck! I ran a 32 min 5K with one rest room break. If it wasn't for that flat I would been extremely happy with how the day went. All in all I was happy with how everything went for my first time around. I plan on doing a few more sprints after the new year and then possibly bumping up in distance. Still have some work to do in the pool! Including my flat my time was 1 Hr 30 mins and change. Great job, triathlete! It's truly is a bug! The sense of accomplishment is amazing and is addictive. I had a flat once in a sprint tri and ended up trying to fix it. That didn't work out for me too well and I ended up riding the rim for about 3 miles. Needless to say, I learned how to fix a flat and it's also good to practice it from time to time. |

Member 386 Yardville, NJ | Subject: RE: 2015 Clyde/Athena Tri-N-4- Weight Loss Mentor Group - Open Need some advice... I'm still having some issues with my toes tingling in my bike shoes after about 1/2 hour. I've had several qualified bike fittings, so I don't think it's bike fit. I think it's shoes, and not enough room in the toe box. I have Specialized road bike shoes and after doing some research, I think they run narrow. If I ride without socks it's a little bit better, but still not great. Also, I don't want to race without socks, because I hate running through transition barefoot. Does anyone have any experience with a bike shoe (preferably a tri shoe) that has a wider toe box? |
