Sorry I have been MIA yet again, thought I was all in and ready to go...ended up with bronchitis then a terrible rash after our first visit back to the pool. Not sure what caused the rash but had to eliminate all the new things and being allergic to chlorine meant swimming had to stop, then Mike got his tattoo so that kept us out of the pool until yesterday. Felt great to be back but still having some Achilles pain. Plan is to just have fun training and racing come race season

Welcome back Randi. Wow, allergic to chlorine? My life would be trashed. I might even have to move to FL, just for the year-round swimming. (Who am I kidding? The year-round motorcycling and the complete absence of snow would be pretty darned good too.)

HUGE thanks to Robin for being so persistent with me and not letting me marinade in my funk.

Right now I feel like such a hypocrite. Here I went and e-mailed many of you to get you to come back and revive this thread. I even started a regular monthly Challenge thread of my own. And yet, since I started it, I have only met that challenge one month out of the last four, none since September. Each month has started off great. But about halfway to two-thirds of the way through the month it just peters out, like this month when I only got 14 out of my planned 22 workout days in and nothing for over a week now. Then all this crap with WTC taking over B2B and losing my intended HIM. It really dropped a wet blanket on my motivation, and the way things went with our daughter and her family for Christmas didn't help that any. Robin, thanks for caring enough to keep "pestering" me back into it.

New plan for 2016 still has the February Idita-Trail race, a May sprint, a June 10k, July's 40k time trial, and my A-race will be the local Lumberjack sprint now. Unless I find something extraordinary in Oct/Nov 2016 I am now planning to switch my HIM to early 2017. But first, I HAVE to actually meet my upcoming January challenge, fighting my way through all the "Resolutionists" at the YMCA.

I'm still here...

My log is empty because I have nothing to put into it. Still dealing with foot issues and really not looking forward to what the scale is going to tell me tomorrow...

I have to say that I am rather pleased with myself this holiday season. Not only did I not gain any weight, I actually managed to lose 1½ lbs since Thanksgiving. Yeah, yeah, I know, not much. But consider that the average American will gain 1-2 lbs over that same period and you will understand why I'm happy.

BUT, I cannot be content to rest upon that success. Instead I am challenging myself, and anyone who wants to join me, to lose an average of 2.5 lbs a week for the month of January, or 10 lbs overall. My starting weight for this challenge is an even 370 lbs as weighed this morning.

I don't know about 10 pounds total, but I can try.

Today is the last day of my 29 year career working for the state of NC. After today, someone else is going to have to make folks clean up their hazardous waste contamination.

Now I have ZERO excuses not to train. Ready, set..... GO!

Two days into the new year. How are folks doing?

I found a training group for my May Half Iron. It is not on BT so I am balancing (or trying to) my training program here with the one they have.

Hi Guys,

I'm back from summer break, so back in front of a computer again.

Robin, it's good to see you've found another HIM to work for.

Mike, I've said it before, don't beat yourself up. We all slip up sometimes. My 2014 is a perfect example of that! It looks like you've scaled back your goals to something more achievable, and you can achieve it! But don't get all hung up on you're 10lb challenge. You've tended to get to focused on your monthly challenge, and then get unmotivated if you don't achieve it. you have to focus on consistency over the next 4 months. Not 4 weeks. 1 bad day doesn't mean all is lost. 1 bad week doesn't mean all is lost. You just need to make sure that the 1 bad day isn't followed with the rest of the month.

Over Christmas I was ok for training, not perfect, but got some work done. Averaged 4 hours a week, for the last fortnight, and weighed in about 4lbs down on my last, pre christmas weigh in. So happy with how things have gone. I'm now 6 training weeks (and a 7th for taper and travel) away from my HIM. Not feeling that I'm anywhere near ready enough, but I'll be working hard, and entering, and booking flights tomorrow.

It's nearly show time.

Good morning,
Ugh, since about mid-December, I had a runny nose and cough, I ignored it, and now have full blown bronchitis and sinusitis. I am hoping to get off the meds by Sunday, and start training again on Monday. I'm just easy walk/running now, and I am going to start spinning classes one to two times a week next week. I am also trying to figure out where to swim that's not 9PM and 45 minutes from my home. I just signed up for a VT Triathlon the weekend of June 18th, a Sprint, so I have a goal!! YAY!!! Like many of us, I need a goal (fear!!!) to get my butt in gear!
Best,
nancy

Yay or signing up for a race. Having a goal makes all the difference. I hope you feel better ASAP!

There is a 2016 thread. Here is the link. It is under the 2016 Mentor tab;

Losing fat is not difficult. So why does this continue to be an elusive goal for so many people, who “struggle” just to lose a few inches?
