Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Alyssa, sounds like an interesting evening. Just remember if you get stuck with an off the wall question... touch your right index finger to your right cheek, daw it slowly down about two inches towads your chin while looking up to your left contemplatevly and say something like, "you konw I haven't ever really thought about that much," them make some mildly whitty subtle comment that turns the question back on them. It goes like this. "Wow, I knew you were young, but I didn't you were our age." "Hmm I never really thought much about my age, I have always loved your father so much that it never really semed to matter." "I am sure you both feel the same way about your girlfriends." "Tell me about them, what do you like most about your girlfriend ( John) ?" Or something like that. You can turn it any way you want, "You must have missed your father terribly over the past 12 years, it must have taken alot of courage for you to meet both him and myself for the first time in so many year for dinner." Or if you want to make them really anxious, "your right, your father is just lucky I met him first you are both very handsom young men, you have your father's looks... and sense of humor it appears" (followed by a chastizing look in your husband's direction). Any icebreaking comment that is slightly disarming and puts some of the ball back in their court will shift the focus off of you and allow the evening to move past "the difficult moment" Anyway, have fun and make sure you get a backrub out of it from your hubby for all the stress he put you through. |

I LOVE them. This summer with the humidity I had found that with the moisture in regular socks I was getting blisters. I haven't had a blister with these new socks. I am sure there are others but a lot of my stuff is under armour - just because I love their stuff. I have the tights, shorts, shirts, socks, sports bra and hat. Stacie |

I just haven't decided what my challenge will be yet. Something swimming-related, I think. I'll probably just go for straight yardage, but I have to do a little math first. Great job on the 5k, Laurie! And Steve, very impressive! Wow, so many people have come a long way this month. That is so cool. Also, December will be a swim challenge. (I've been told they do that every year. I don't know why.) Nobody seems to know why exactly... but if you can find the thread for hte original boys vs girls swim challenge its VERY entertaining reading!!! Its where the entire assatar concept started as well.... very very funny |

Veteran 288 Owings, MD | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Hey all, A lot went on over the weekend! Can you tell I'm a "work" BTer? I don't log in much during the weekend. Lyssa, glad the dinner went okay. Invisible is probably good for a first meeting. I hope you will encourage your husband to keep in touch with them. Did walk/run of 3.31 miles at lunch, which puts my total up to 49.79 miles for the month. I guess I should finally commit to changing my goal from 35 miles to 45 miles, so I'm still over 100% of goal. Stacie, if you could fix that for the final tally, I would appreciate it. Thanks for being our fearless leader! Laurie |

Expert 1580 Ankeny, Iowa | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Here is the spreadsheet - Klgray - I updated your goal but had already submitted the spreadsheet for the day but it doesn't make a difference in this final week since you are still over 100%. Any mileage today will be recorded in the end of challenge column on Thursday. The mileage showing is what was reported at noon today through yesterday. 7 out of 11 team members have hit 100%. The other four of us are: Ambulance Driver - 92.77% - needs 2.24 mile Dimplespoo (ME) - 95% - needs 2 miles Jessicacrouchrt - 93.62% - needs 3.19 miles TRIFOR40 - 96.43% - needs 1.25 miles I know I will probably finish mine up tonight or tomorrow. I will make sure I get 2.0 miles in before wednesday night at midnight. So far we have checked in with an overall percentage of 97.98% and the only other is Things that go bump in the night at 91.15% but I am not sure how they are doing it since they had two affected by the fires that people are picking up.

I just finished my race report from the Monster Tri. I FINISHED MY FIRST RACE!!! WOOHOO!!! I feel like a million dollars. If any of you is contemplating your first competion, I highly recommend just registering and getting on with it. I haven't felt this good about myself in years! I know I'm one of the last to get to 100%, but don't worry, I will finish either tonight or tomorrow. I want to thank all of you for your kind words of support and encouragement. If not for all of you I would have probably lazed around the house all weekend. Instead, today I am officially a triathlete. I could not have gotten to this point in my life without you. Weird how people I've never even met can get me choked up....Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Jess |

Three nights left, plenty of time to finish off those miles. Hrm... raining out. Looks like dreadmill for sure tonight, although I like the control over speed that the dreadmill gives. Hope it is nice tomorrow night, I have to grind out my last several miles to hit 200 for the month biking. I wish we could start accumulating Noverber miles now.... those goals gona be hard to meet during the holidays with 1 recovery week and 1 taper week. And the weight one ugh. On Sunday they announce putluck pumpkin carving that night. Dieting and putluck = bad. Tripple chocholate cake, fresh baked warm brownies, cookies of all kinds, chicken and rice, lasagna, chips and salsa, pizza cassarole thing, hot dogs, soda (none of it diet) etc.. K well at least the weight thing doesn't count untill November, mixed blessing there. Glad you survived the dinner Alyssa what did you order? Steak and Lobster with a nice caraph of wine? Make him pay 8). |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread I wouldn't mind a run in the rain except that my shoes would be soggy for days, and it will probably be mid 30's and raining by the time I get home and dark before I am done. And I have an overwhelming desire to run farther than 5.1 miles in 60:55 minutes tonight (wicked grin) and then I would have to change my clothes before I started lifting weights. It might not even be raining anymore by then, just muddy. Oh well we will see. Jess, I found your race report and got some of the dirt there. I will be doing my first try in like 5 weeks after maybe 14-15 weeks of exercizing/training. I will let ya know how it turns out for me. The swim should be particularly fun since I have only been swiming 3x this year and it is last (reverse order tri (run, bike, swim)), but no brick on the run. Run to bike is a really easy transition. |

Veteran 131 Tampa, Florida | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Baowolf - 2007-10-29 2:38 PM Woot Jessica, WAY TO GO!!! Give us details, like how to hang your bike up on the rack and did the elastic laces work for you, was the water cold, did the run totally suck after the bike ride, did you eat anything during the tri or just before it, how far was it, how much scoping did you do of the guy runners... lol....hanging your bike on the rack...so I get there and I'm looking around at the few other early arrivals to see how they have their bikes hanging...I didn't notice right off the bat that the bikes were "hooked" on between the brakes and the handle bars, so I proceeded to hang mine, by hooking the bar with the curved portion of the handlebars. Didn't think too much about it until I overheard some girl say to her male companion, "look, she has hers hanging by the handlebars...". I wasn't sure if she was making fun of me, or if she was a first timer too, so later(after they walked off), re-racked the way everybody else did. I was very tempted to tell them NOT to model anything they did after what I was doing, since I didn't know what I was doing, but I didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable that I overheard them talking about me. I have normal laces, on normal running shoes, I don't wear biking shoes yet. Don't know if you read my RR, but just getting a drink is extremely dangerous for me at this point, so I skip the whole specialty shoe, clipping thing. Running shoes works for me. The water was warm. Too hot for me, I was huffing and puffing getting out of the pool and my body temp was up. I could tell by the flush of my skin and the fact that my veins were sticking out, despite being outdoors in 45 degree breezy weather, dripping wet, and mostly naked ( I wore my speedo suit with a sports bra underneath). You arent' allowed to grab a towel until you get to the T1 area, which requires running from the pool, outside to the t1 area about 50 yards away. I took extra time at T1 to dry off as best I could considering it was chilly. I put on some calf length running tights, and a sleeveless dry-tech shirt over the bathing suit and wet sports bra. Dried my feet really well, put on socks and running shoes, fastened my helmet and headed for the bike mount line. Never really was bothered by the cold. T2 sucked at first, my legs did not want to do what they were told, but all in all the run didn't suck after the ride. As far as nutrition goes, I was planning to have a cliff bar and a banana or something for breakfast, but forgot to bring it, so I stopped at a 7-11 and got a poptart and a cup of coffee. So much for "power" nutrition. Although I hadn't had a poptart in years. It was good I was planning to have the coffee so that was okay, I had some kashi in the car with me so I ate that too and drank some water and gatorade. I didn't take anything after 6am. I also didn't take anything between the swim and ride. Should have drank more. BTW, those gatorades with the special drinking thingy have a safety seal underneath. be sure to remove it before getting on the bike. Safer that way. I did have a powerbar gel between the ride and run. It was vanilla flavored, not bad, but I just washed it down with water, didn't really linger on tasting it. I didn't make me want to hurl though, so all in all, I would have to say I liked it. The race was sprint distance: 300m swim(snake swim in a 50m pool, nice 9ft wide lanes), 12.5or6 mile ride, 3.1 mile run. I felt like I could have gone farther, but probably not faster. Okay, now for the fun stuff. Ogling. mmmmm. All of you: next time you don't feel like working out, do a quick 1 min visualization exercise. Rubbing elbows(or other body parts), with mostly naked hot triathletes. It works. Although to be perfectly honest, I didn't really look at anyone else once the race started. I was very focused on myself and what I had to do. After all, for me at this point, I'm not racing with anyone else. It's just me. Before the race and afterwards.....Holy cow......there are some fine human specimens participating in this sport. Unfortunately a lot of them are married, but all of them are nice(so far). |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread I love my clipped in clippless shoes for the bike.. unless I have to stop, or turn semi sharply, like a U-Trun on a narrow road where just as you are about to complete the turn your skinny bike tire hits some soft dirt and you are about to fall on your ear, so you go to put your foot out to catch yourself... and it doesn't come out. That's when I don't like them so much. Yay 18 mph in a straight line, or even driving around corners, but slow, chain jumping, tire skidding, not so great situations... are just painful. Mr. screwdriver meet Mr. tension reduction screw and we see if it helps any. We currently have a love hate relationship. Furtunately I can ride for 35 + miles without having to stop, well like stop suddenly or unexpectedly, most of the time. Edited by Baowolf 2007-10-29 5:01 PM |
