So the 22 mile bike ride and 30 min lifting has left me spent. I guess tomorrow will be a day off, I can't see running yet. Although it would be nice to pile some more numbers on there so Alyssa can't pass me by in the last several days... Oh well, off to watch a movie with my wife. No swim challenge for me next month, my bathtub is not big enough. Must not eat too much for last 4 days and I win. Down to under 2 weeks untill my Tri (750 miles away). haha yeah I hear ya on the bath thing... you can always be an honourary team member if you like... Im sure some of the former apples would love to have you as a cheerleader! |

Cat...can you check out my posts on the spreadsheet...as one that is used to working with his hands and not his brain I am not sure I got it right. I added the weekly totals together to get the final numbers and have met all but one of my goals..This adds up like my personal log at home so it might be right...but not only am I old...I have been known to be a dunba$$ when it comes to computers. Not going to do the Swim Challenge next month. I just ordered the TI DVD and am getting back in the water in Jan. Also training for a 10k to be done in Feb. so I need to stay in the road for the time being. I will still be checking on my Hippo teammates and cheering (and geering every chaance I get. Train safe but always train hard Steve |

Master 1675 Suwanee, Ga. | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's Hey Lyssa Yes I have read the book and thought it was GREAT. I have been told by several folks that the DVD is much better to learn from...and I am a visual learner anyway. I am up for a personal challenge this next month if you would like...I will probably be focused on running and workouts with some biking thrown if the weather holds. TMPI...I spent 13 years driving the back of a Fire Department ladder truck...(hook & ladder in Hollywood terms) and even being in the Atlanta area when it is 35 degrees outside and you are going 70mph down the road....well as grandma used to say..**that'll frost your knickers** among other things So because of that history I can't stand riding a bike when it gets cold...yes I am a wuss but a warm wuss. Let me know if you come up with something. Steve |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's 100 % cure for hicoughs is to find a relaxing location (couch, bed, whatever) close your eyes, imagine a very relaxing location (beach, meadow, whatever) slow your breathing down, slowly breathing in through your nose to the count of 1..... 2......3....4... 5.. and slowly out 1... 2... 3... 4.. 5.., feeling your body relaxing, while you breath, in.... and out...... your body gets heavy and warm.... breathing in.... and out...... a gentle breeze drifts across the air... oh wait your hiccoughs are already gone by this point takes about 10 to 20 sec. Basically you kick in your parasympathetic nervious system, obtaining a beta brain wave pattern and the hiccoughs go away. If you really wanted to you could probably go the other way and do a 10 mph sprint for 30 sec and then stop, causing a spike in the sympathetic nervous system followed by a reflexive response of the parasympathetic nervious system. I usualy just do the 10 deep breaths as it is easier. Edited by Baowolf 2007-11-28 10:03 PM |

Wow!!! Just before I got really sick, I woke up from a dead sleep with the hiccups! It was the wierdest thing! That's never happened before! I hope you are doing better. Other news........I made it back to Oregon. The road to my house is always seriously icy in bad weather. Tonight was no different. It is snowing as I type. I think the weather gods always know when I will be moving. Hmmmm. Why am I always moving in the winter? I didn't get my run in tonight. Bummer. My cats were happy to see me! I don't think I'll take them for a walk! |

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's The November Challenge is almost over! This month's Challenge is almost over. How times flies when we're having fun! Please update your Google Spreadsheets with your final totals by "bedtime" on Saturday. This will give everyone a chance to get their last workouts in on Friday November 30th, and enter their totals the following day. You do NOT need to calculate percentages. I will do that. (Yes, you can do it if you want to....) On Sunday morning, I will download the spreadsheets and start summing up the data. IF YOUR INFORMATION ISN"T ENTERED BY THE TIME I DOWNLOAD THE SPREADSHEETS, I WILL ASSUME THAT YOU HAVE NOT MET YOUR GOALS! Team Captains - Please check your team threads on Saturday. If anyone has trouble using the Google Spreadsheets, please help them to enter their data. Run! Swim! Bike! Get those last minute workouts in! There's still time!!! Saturday is December 1st. It's also the first day of the SWIM CHALLENGE! If you haven't already done so, don't forget to sign up for the fun! Dee |

Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's Oh man my credit card is suddenly taking a beating...just joined the DC Tri Club...sure I'll be a little fish in a big pond...actually I'll probably be like the malformed fished among a group of super fast and agile dolphins, but isn't that what the best Disney/Pixar movies are made out of (just call me Nemo I guess). Anyway, I spent a while debating between DC and another local club and decided that I'd go the bigger route...more stuff going on, more opportunities for training, more social events. So, I'm psyched! This cold is just killing me enough to make my workouts a tad on the crummier than usual side....Tuesday I was upping my run portion to 8 minutes and instead of doing the planned 3 minute intervals (and maybe striving for 4 minutes), I decided to take it easy and doing 4 x 2 minutes...I'm already a hopeless mouthbreather when it comes to running, but with the cold it was that much worse...ugh! And with swimming yesterday I had to actually take a bit of a break and go back down to 150 yard intervals instead of moving up to 250 yard intervals like I had hoped. Again, at least I got the distance in. In December I'm going to keep up my 1650 yards of swimming at each session but once a week I'm going to start doing some Total Immersion drills (have had the book for a while now and so need to sit down and read it some). While I think I'm far from the worst swimmer out there, I definitely could improve. And what is it with me that, after spending my entire childhood summers in a swimming pool I suddenly can't swim without a nose plug? How retarded is that? Okay, well I'm off on another 8 minutes of running hell today with my headcold and my final strength program tonight (the increase I did there this week was good...upped almost everything by either adding a set, adding weight, or adding reps and it felt like a nice challenge). And then tomorrow I finish up with a final swim. I'll be just past all my goals! Good job everyone. Even if you haven't been able to finish up your goals, sometimes you got to realize that life just gets in the way and that's more important in many respects. After all DNF is still > DNS. Happy Thursday (or Friday for the Aussie folks)! |
