TheSchwamm - 2008-10-13 6:43 PM i'm watching espn and trying to come up with a list of questions for the surgeon tomorrow so i don't just sit and cry the whole time. heh.

Schwamm, it's ok to admit you're watching ESPN and trying to come up with a list of questions to ask Tony Kornheiser tonight.

Good luck with the surgeon tomorrow.

For sure - good luck with the docs.

Tony K.?  Blech.  I get so mad at his crappy comments and lame arse jokes, I start to yell at the TV...

He sucks.

It's times like these I'm glad I don't watch T.V.

I had some pizza offered to me at 3 p.m., but wasn't able to have it then. Wonder what the chances for tonight are?

I almost had several yesterday, watching my Vikings play is like asking to become an alcoholic.  Luckily I didn't and the girl I've been talking to got out of work (teaching swim lessons-pool chemicals weren't right) and I got to take her out for a motorcycle ride.  Much better than watching the Vikings horrid offense.

Overlord, I have a running question for you. If on my runs between miles 3-4 my left foot gets a bit on the numb side and my calf feels like it's really swollen, what should I do? The feeling generally goes away if I walk a bit. I used to think it was because my speedlaces were too tight, but now I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

Certainly sounds like a lace issue, but I would think that's more the shin/front of leg.

Could be a tendon issue, perhaps, or maybe arches. I know when I wore boots all the time, I used to get numbness in my big toe and it felt like I had beat my feet with a baseball bat. I got better arch supports, problem went away.

Might try stretching the calves a little more, or maybe a new shoe. What are you wearing?

I'm just recently switched into Saucony ProGrid Triumph 5's. The running shoe store told me I have high inflexible arches. I can also hear some clicking from that ankle, which I would assume is from one of the tendons. Doesn't hurt at all once I get done, though.

Then my first culprit is the shoes.

I tried a pair of Brooks (I forget which model, they were free), and got around 100 miles before I couldn't even wear them. Two miles in and I had to stop running and walk home.

It used to happen in my old shoes too. Mizuno Wave Inspire 4's.

Cami has a good idea.

This is quite the puzzle.  Worst case, I'd talk to a doc.

I did - kinda - talked to my dad who is a family practice doc.  He's going to think about it and get back to me.  His recommendation was, for the time being, run the 4 miles until it starts happening and then walk and run back.  Keep doing this to see if you can eventually push out the distance where it starts to happen.

I'm thinking heavy starch at this point.

I know how to iron; lots of practice with that.  But this shirt defies logic and reason.

Could be like the dress shirts from structure.  They wrinkled immediately no matter what you did.

Oh I hate those kind.

Ever tried that Magic Sizing stuuf? It can work magic sometimes. Hence the name, I guess.

Interesting idea.  I mean, I can't see anything too wrong with it, other than you risk making it worse.  But in a way, making it worse might give you a better idea of what's actually wrong.

Try the laces for now.  Work on eliminating variables.

No, but I am very familiar with Niagra Heavy Spray Starch.

And Lincoln Wax.  The best shoe polish, hands down.
