TracyV - 2009-02-18 2:16 PM I have a question. For those of you who ride on a trainer. How much time do you spend in aero? Please don't tell me the whole time!Cry

Ummm... a lot  On the trainer maybe 75-80%.. outside 90+%.... you need to get used to it!!

I ride in the aero bars as much as I can.  Way too chicken to stay in aero on steep downhills or through sharp turns but I do stay in them on rollers.

The secret is to find just the right style that is comfortable for you.  Some prefer s-bends others like what I call the thumbs up style.  Mine are set a little wider to help some with stability.

I would say I am on them about 60% of the time on the trainer. I am hoping once I get my new seat I will be more comfortable. On my road bike I could spend easily 75-90% on them. I haven't had the pleasure of riding my tri bike on the road yet. I purchased it in November.

Not nearly enough time for me.  I just went "aero" last summer and it took me the ENTIRE summer to get use to them.  I was probably up to about 50% by the end of the summer. I just don't trust the feeling and I was told I needed to be refit cuz my neck is really strained when in aero, so that may be the reason I'm not totally comfy.

... I just don't trust the feeling ...

See that is what makes me nervous about aerobars. We are in a very hilly place, plus I like to keep my hand on the brakes just in case ... I suspect I would rarely use them but if I want to keep up with my tri friends on a ride, I could really use a little extra speed

Ok.. so I really must be crazy... I hadn't ridden in years when I got into this sport last season... right off I bought a multisport bike with aerobars.... it only took me a few rides to get used to it, and by the end of last season I could even climb small hills without getting out of it... so WHEN I'm on the trainer (not that it's been happening much) I actually spend quite a bit of my time in aero...

Can anyone recommend a good therapist???

Okay... so either I'm not as crazy as first thought... or we're both crazy

On the better side of things... I'm hoping to hop on the trainer this afternoon while kiddo naps and see how the knee handles just some free spinning (ie ROM "rehab"

My ankle biters are all tucked up for the night (maybeWink!) Mrs Mac is watching TV and here I am putting of doing some more coursework!

I'm thinking I've bitten off a bit too much! Hey ho - getting the priorities right I did skive off work for the best part of an hour to squeeze in a swim after my record breaking run - so it's all good really!Cool

What kind of wetsuit should I be looking at (in terms of brands) I won't be getting much use out of it - would my Farmer John for kayaking do?! probably not eh?! Whotchall think?Undecided

Ok, I have been saving up my questions! Who owns a set of race wheels in this group? I am trying to decide if I should buy a pair. Now, I wouldn't even consider a pair of aero wheels. This girl doesn't have that kind of money, but a lighter pair would be nice.

Hello Everyone...i would love to join the party. i've been reading your info and i'm inspired! i'll try to give you some inspiration throughout the season. thanks for the note Tammy..

my name is lara and i'm 34 - 2nd season of tris...my hubby is the super star and i'm trying to find my own way. he inspired me to start tris afew years ago... i've done sprints, duathlons, 1 marathon, few halfs and signed up for the DC 1/2 iron this summer. i'm EXTREMELY nervous to start my plan next month....the volume is huge. but i decided i need something that scares and excites me.

i have a huge athletic background....team sports my whole life...dad is a coach...college soccer. All my soccer teammates are tearning up their ACL's and it's freaking me out. i tore ankle ligaments last spring playing soccer - most painful thing ever. also broke pinky and wrist playing adult dodgeball with hubby....it gets very intense. i feel im an intense competitor and triathlons seem like a good fit. Running is awesome (when my knees don't hurt)..i feel i can get faster because i had a decent 1/2 mary time last year (1:56) but feel mentally i'm not capable of sustaining 8's or lower for a long time. need to overcome.... biking seems easy...my legs are power houses - need to improve hamstrings...getting aeros in the next few weeks and refitted to my road bike. thinking about a tri bike... swimming scares me but i'm falling more in love with the challenge. i keep improving and it's soo new!

could stand to lose some poundage....become lean rather than stocky...weigh 140; 5'5''...not worried about it - i know it will happen naturally...i love food and workout so i can eat.

Goals: 2009: improve my 1/2 mary times this summer..madison in May...wait for another full so i can slowly build. Complete a few Olympic distances strong! Finish Door County in a decent amt. of time.....6, 6.5 hours. Become familiar with my heart rates.....and fueling/nutrition. i'm kind of making up my own rules...yikes. need some focus/structure- i sweat a lot.

i don't have a lot of pictures of myself alone to post....because i have quite a few wee ones....4 daughters...i'm an at home mom...used to be a teacher. the whole at -home thing is interesting...don't feel like my self sometimes...living to 'serve.' the girls are young and did their first tri last summer...so cute!! 7, 6, 3, 3,......yes twins. Strange to share info...thanks for reading and looking forward to reading about all your training too.

My ankle biter is down for the nap, so I hope to get a small ride in and see how I feel. Hockey tonight for the ankle biter and I for a mom-daughter night before I leave for the weekend.

Welcome Lara.  You're gonna smoke your season!  Especially with your hubby behind you 100%.  That's always nice.  I soooo need to get fitted for my bike.  I had it assembled last year at W&S but never had a fit.  I have been told I am in serious need of one.  Maybe if I did that, I'd go fasterLaughing

Come join us in Vegas for your next full Mary.  New sponsors this year, so I am not sure if it is the same course your hubby did.  Hopefully we will have better weather than he had:0  So far Clint and I, Craimyjo and perhaps DJ Davey and his gang are going.  I believe the Schmize's are thinking about it too.  I have not done a full marathon yet and have signed up for three this year.  Yeah, I am crazy.  Must be going thru a midlife crisis.  Better that it is sport oriented than other, right?
