tri808 - 2010-03-11 2:38 PM Heading downstairs to the fitness center for a run.

Is that the treadmill down in the basement or the fitness center at work?

I think I found the perfect time to work out.  When I walked through the front door there wasn't anyone in the pool.  By the time I changed there was one person.  As I was getting out, two others came in. When I walked out to my truck, there was a whole lot more. I got in perfectly between the lunch group and the early afternoon group.  It was a good workout too.  I'm trying to be more efficient and focused on kicking while keeping my legs relaxed.  I was able to get in two more laps without feeling any more tired than usual.

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-11 2:42 PM Alright do I ride home and go for a swim and hurt tomorrow with another long swim or should I just go for a run instead?

I am thinking a run but am open to suggestions!

I would opt for the run, but that's just me.  I prefer running over swimming.

mchally - 2010-03-10 4:02 PM evening workout is canceled.

My father was diagnosed with Multiple Systems Atrophy 4 year years ago(an amendment to the parkinsons diagnosis he had received 2 years before that).  With this disease basically all the functions that you are born with fail. The only thing that he doesn't loose is his cognitive abilities.  He has been wheel chair bound for the last year and a half and had very limited mobility of his arms, hands and head.  He is on in home hospice and my mom has hired a couple of fellows to help with his care.

He has had a sharp decline over the last couple of weeks and tonight he has taken a turn for the worse.  He may have caught the bug that is going around...

I am sitting in his room with him watching Cash Cab.  My mom called my sister and her husband are on their way to join us (it is a 3.5 hour drive).  There is a good chance that he won't make it through the night.

Edited to add...he just turned 57 years old.

Melissa, I am soooo sorry ~ My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!!!! (and thank you for the update!)

I caught my son's cold.   I sure hope I can get better by Sunday so I can do a 10 mile running race.

Here's hoping to a speedy recovery...or at least well enough to get that 10 miles in as that always seems to help somehow!

onward and upward Paul - thanks for noticing - I didn't.  I already upped the challenge total to 8750.  If Dee allows I will back it off to show 105% since I blew the 8K away about 10 days ago

10K is the next big step in BT life.  The way this month is going I should make it before my tour in June.

Those numbers just seem so far away to me.  But then again 300 seemed a long way off to me last month when I was sitting at 65 and now 300 is right around the corner.

Trust me they add up quick - especially if get on a chatty challenge team or two!

They are adding up quickly.  Over one third of my post total is from this month and we're only a third of the way through the month.  Very chatty group this month.

pdbman - 2010-03-11 8:33 AM Missed my workout last night.  We got a text message as we were leaving our meeting last night that one of the youth that we work with was waiting for us to get home so he could talk to us.  By the time he left, I just didn't have the energy to go running. As it is, my whole family slept through their alarms this morning.  I barely made it to the doctor this morning for my eye exam.  I'm all set to go back to full training again after my surgery and am no longer restricted to under 25 lbs lifting etc.

Now that I think about it, its been an interesting day.  Good news at the doctor but there was also a mix up with my insurance so all the claims were getting denied. Got that straightened out and had to call the hospital and anesthesiologist to let them know its fixed. My wife was also set to cater a wedding tomorrow and they called things off last night. Had to cancel stuff associated with that before we had tons of food that would just go to waste. But now I'm working and things are going good.  Finishing up some programs and might actually get some things done on time, sort of. Initial date was Monday but the final testing is due March 25 so I'm still doing OK. Just one more program to go and it shouldn't be too bad. I should have that done in a couple of days.

Now all I have to do is squeeze in a double workout at lunch and this evening before 7pm. No problem.

Yeah...no problem...right?! (so long as the stars and planets all align correctly...)

And now I see you are free...love it when things go our way!!!

I read once that Dean Karnazes has only missed three days of running in like 15 years and that was because of the flu. After three days he said to heck with it and went running anyway. That's when he finally got better. I'm going to try that remedy to see if it works for me next time I get sick. I have noticed that going for a run helps my sinuses when they are congested.

Whatever the case, I hope you get better soon enough that you can get your 10 mile race in.

Yeah, it does seem to help sometimes.  I'm just calling this week a taper week since my runs arn't happening.  Hopefully I'll be nice and rested for the race!

I totally believe it...there are a lot of times that running actually makes me feel better or (I swear) keeps me from getting worse!

I wasn't thinking about the posting totals at the time.  I had just figured out a problem I was working on and took a short break to see what was going on and as usual I had to share my thoughts. Now our network is down for a few minutes while they set up some testing so I have a few minutes to kill so I am back again.

It's funny 'cuz I always say I got more computer play time when I was working than I ever do now.  This week is a bit different as I am totally taking advantage of not being in school, my kiddos naps, and every other spare moment whereas normally I have a gazillion other things that I would be taking care of! I love slacking!   (Not that I'm saying that anyone in here is a slacker or anything!)

Is that the treadmill down in the basement or the fitness center at work?

We have a fitness center at work.  The best part is it's open 24/7...since I work in a data center that never closes.  The next best part is that it's always empty.  It does get busy a couple of hours during the day, but mostly when I wouldn't be working out anyway...so I pretty much get the whole place to myself.  The just upgraded a lot of the equipment, so really...the only reason I keep my gym membership at the Y is so I can swim masters.

My run was okay.  It was the first time I ran since last Friday.  I've been taking it easy this week...just swimming up till now.  I'll run again tomorrow, then probably a LR on Sunday.

If I can get home early enough, I may get an outdoor ride in...otherwise it'll be the trainer.

Yeah that would be really nice. Our gym is usually overcrowded so a gym at work would be great. My gym membership is only $20 a month for the family so I would also keep mine even if we had a gym and pool at work.  I guess I can't complain about the crowd for only $20.

Went out for a nice 4 mile run after work today.  An unexpected run since this morning was too windy for me, but I got off work about 45 minutes earlier than expected.  The wind had died down, so I convinced myself that I was not too tired.  Wink   And the run felt good!
