Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: RE: World Cup - Spoilers Originally posted by crowny2 0-0 at half. Hmm... And that is the final too. Wow. Men (plural) of the Match should be Cesar and Ochoa. Those two GK's kept their teams in the match. Edited by crowny2 2014-06-17 3:51 PM |

Expert 1207 Parker, Co | Subject: RE: World Cup - Spoilers As i said in the beginning - a team with Julio Caesar, Luiz and Alves at the back wont win the cup Brazil is not the team they were in the 70's and early 80's....European soccer is to blame - too many play there for the money and the flair just disappears from their game..where are the Zico's, Socrates, Falcao's and Eder's in this squad...no where. |

489 | Subject: RE: World Cup - Spoilers I thought Brazil were pretty solid defensively and restricted Mexico to pot shots from outside of the area. Hardly any on target. They were lacking in midfield with no one to dictate play and get a bit of space to create. Stick Pirlo in that team and they'd walk it. Neymar tried to do too much by himself - whether that's because he feels the weight of a nations expectations or is a narcissistic - only he knows but it's a team sport so he needs to sort himself out. Russia v Korea doesn't really rock my world in terms of anticipation but the amount of times the English commentator attempts to make a military reference will keep me entertained. Russians to win 2-1. |

Elite 3088 Austin, TX | Subject: RE: World Cup - Spoilers Oh, I know. That's why I said they "have" to be at the same time, not just that they are. Yeah, Germany can totally tank it in the last match if they're a shoe in, but it could be even worse. Let's assume the US does manage a draw against Portugal. If Portugal played before the U.S.-Germany game and didn't overcome the 4 goal differential, the U.S. could totally tank that last game, too. You'd end up with a pointless match between subs. |

Actually, I take that back, it would then be a game to determine position into the next round so it would potentially mean quite a bit. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: World Cup - Spoilers What's the name for "anti" Cinderella? The biggest disappointment? Whatever the word is, could it be Spain? They have 30 minutes to either prove themselves or they are the first team mathematically out of the contention for the cup and tournament. Need a tie and a LOT of help. |

Talk about my bracket being busted. I had them winning it all. Seems like a real stupid pick now |

Expert 1207 Parker, Co | Subject: RE: World Cup - Spoilers Disclosure - i am English - we are the absolute definition of insanity - pick the same players over and over again and expect different results. Why move Man of the match Sterling out wide so you can move Rooney central - he had 3 great chances and finished one....we needed more penetration and pace through midfield and he wasnt there to provide it. Henderson provides nothing and Gerrard has been playing scared since he messed up at Anfield. Unfortunately we dont have quality players in abundance waiting on the sidelines - Barkley has promise, as does Wilshire but they need more time to mature. Our players look uncomfortable on the ball and under pressure - maybe more time on the practice field and less at the horse races would help...technically we need to be much much better to compete...even some of the smaller sides like Costa Rica play better technically |

And they are out. I spoke too soon. If Italy doesn't screw up tomorrow, they are out. I didn't tell is as well as this guy:
England lose to Uruguay... … and Italy beat Costa Rica: England stay in the World Cup (but rely on other results in the final round) England go bottom of the table behind Costa Rica on 3 points and Uruguay on 3 points. Italy head the group with 6 points. And then what? England have to beat Costa Rica in the last game, and hope that Italy beat Uruguay. Goal difference would then separate England, Costa Rica and Uruguay. … and Italy draw with Costa Rica: ENGLAND EXIT THE WORLD CUP IMMEDIATELY England move bottom of the group on 0 points behind Costa Rica and Italy on 4 and Uruguay on 3 points. There is no mathematical possibility of qualification from this position. And then what? It’s over. Properly, finally over. The Costa Rica game becomes irrelevant to England fans. … and Costa Rica beat Italy: ENGLAND EXIT THE WORLD CUP IMMEDIATELY England move to the bottom of the table on 0 points. Costa Rica lead the group with 6 points, with Italy and Uruguay both on 3 points. England can reach 3 points by beating Costa Rica, but one of Italy and Uruguay must end up with at least 4.

Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: RE: World Cup - Spoilers Originally posted by Dan-L England back to their worst. No creativity and poor finishing. The national team has been destroyed by flooding the premier league with foreign talent. I don't entirely agree. There is some wicked youth talent in England, the problem is, they don't get the playing time on the national team, or to bcozian's point, they get put in the wrong place. There is no reason to put Sterling wide when the sacred cow (Shrek) isn't producing. England has talent. They actually have it in droves. Sterling, Sturridge, Ox, etc, but as has been stated, they are too worried about going young (Klinsy did it for Germany and look at how long that has helped them) so they do the same thing over and over and over again. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: World Cup - Spoilers Yeah, I often wonder about how good an all-star/national team could REALLY be if they had a year to prep and play together. Just because everyone on the team could be a star on their respective clubs, it's also chemistry and knowing the team mates. I personally don't think they get enough playing time together. PLUS, sometimes a team of leaders/stars is not good. You do need support roles filled too. That's probably not as much of an issue in soccer as say basketball, but I bet it's still a problem if you got 2-3 scoring superstars on your team that all want to put the ball in the back of the net. Sometimes I wonder how a high quality club team that plays day in, day out together would do against your average national team.

I don't think any of those are anywhere near world class. Sturridge might make it but even he think he's much better than he is. There are some decent athletes but very little talent compared to other countries. England were technically deficient again against Uruguay - always need an extra touch, can't beat man and can't get a shot on target from 25 yards. Very poor. Not buying the German example either - Germany have had a cracking national side for ever. In fact it supports mine because the German league is low on foreign imports so they get to develop a far broader set of home grown talent. Same as Holland.
