cornfed - 2011-03-27 3:34 PM   Now that I've found my bike I've noticed my pretty beat up.  I have a pair of Pearl Izumi road shoes with a ratchet strap but and the ratchet on one is in pretty bad shape (think it's from when I crashed last summer).  So I'm thinking about getting a new pair of shoes.  What type of bike shoes do you guys wear, road or tri?

These for me.  They fit me pretty well.

Long day here.  Started the day with the duathlon.  Clocked in a 10:25 2.5k (6:43/mile), 35:35 20k  (21.3mph), 10:45 2.5k for a total of 58:35.  7th overall (70(?) total people), 1st in AG.

Stoked about the runs, pissed about the ride.  As punishment I went on a 22 mile afternoon group ride and hit the hills hard.  I need up the bike volume significantly if I want to perform decently in that arena.

I hope it hurt! Go VCU

Great Race!  The hills are constant in OMSP.

So was this at Powerman?

Good race!! Those hills at oak mountain are a b*****. You averaged close to 21, and first race of the season. Lots of riding ahead.Hate I didn't make it out, my legs are still toast from the hm.

Yep - Powerman course, but a bit shorter than the long course.  I'm not nearly in bike shape enough to tackle 60k in Oak Mountain.

titeloops - 2011-03-26 6:38 PM Hilly 52 mile ride at 190 watt average yesterday, 13 mile run today. Legs are screaming. Now, beer and NCAA hoops. Heels gotta big game tomorrow! If Heels don't take it, I'm a bandwagon Butler fan.

Same here - now that Florida is out I'm officially cheering for Butler or VCU.  Or pretty much anyone who can beat the evil that is UNC. ;-)

I've got a man crush on Josh Harrellson.  I'm pulling for a Kentucky vs Butler final.

I was thinking the same thing.  21 mph this early in the season is solid.

I wear the Shimano's as well. Great shoes. I stepped up to the TR71 last year, for the carbon sole. Transfer of power is definitely increased with carbon insert.

I found the lower end one to be more comfortable.  YMMV.

Awesome race! I so want to get in on this race one year. As small as it is, I'd like to htink I'd have a chance!

Also, I'm riding in the same shoes.

Plan was to have a light week to recover from my race, get back on the bike and get ready to start training seriously for my Oly in late may.  Everything went well until Sunday evening when my knee started really hurting.  I took yesterday off and was planning to ride this morning but it's still stiff and sore.  I'm going swimming this evening and try to hit the bike tomorrow.  I'm going to be on vacation next week so had wanted to have a big week this week but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.  Hopefully my vacation will let me recover but I'm getting a little worried about this oly... it's going to be ugly!

Bike 7.8mi. Run 4.95mi. Strength 1hr 15min.

Man I was lazy. I'm blaming it on the stomach virus and the layoff with rehab.

Time to start ramping things back up!

Oh, and I know I'm not fast when it comes to most here, but I ran this morning's 5mi in 44:35 and didn't feel pushed AT ALL. I was apparently the rabbit this morning. I'm starting to think these 1mi & 1.5mi all out efforts 2x a week have been helping.

Now, to start building, and getting the 12mi base back in preperation for the October full!

Nice. How hilly was the bike course? That's my main concern. I know my run will be slow. I'm hoping the swim will take care of itself.

Not a terrible week for me- but my HIM is 7 weeks out and I've got to get more time on the bike.  Feeling pretty good for my run and my swim, but I can't seem to find enough hours to put in on the bike - plus I'm super slow.  Anyway, got in 2 hours on the trainer this morning, so thats a start.  Plan to really push bike volume for the next 3 weeks and see where I am then.

Tell ya what, I'm 3 weeks from NOLA, and I swear I'm so undertrained its redonkulous. I've averaged about 1 trip a week to the pool, and my run volume is prolly less than 20 miles a week. It's also been really tough to get the bike in this early in the season. I'm looking at  6 hour HIM at least. I'm stealing my race strategy from someone's signature line on ST, "Float, Hammer, and Jog!"

Here's the skinny on Augusta, The swim will give ya about a 10 minute head start on whatever you think your splits are gonna be. Its fast. The bike is what I would call rolling, but not really hilly. Theres not anywhere on the course where you would really have to come out of the saddle unless you just want to, to stretch the legs. Honestly, with 2500 to 3000 other peeps on the bike, you get sucked along with a pretty nice little slip stream, even if trying your best not to draft. The run literally could not be any flatter, and the looping course means lots of great spectator interaction to keep ya motivated. You'll do great. One thing I do remember is that there were really long lines at registration, so get there early, and I heard they ran out of finisher medals later in the day.

It's hard to train in the winter. Halfway through my HM training this winter I decided I wouldn't sign up for a race this early in the season again. I'm pretty happy with my HM performance but I neglected swimming and biking to pull it off.   I have an oly in 8 weeks and I'll be on vacation for 10 days during that so it's not going to be pretty...

Yeah you've got some catching up to do.  You should be able to easily get in two three hour rides this weekend.  You just have to decided if you want beer and basketball or biking and basketball.

Yeah you've got some catching up to do.  You should be able to easily get in two three hour rides this weekend.  You just have to decided if you want beer and basketball or biking and basketball.

Not being a basketball fan I'll take beer and biking!
