Sharyn5 - 2011-12-02 3:50 PM question is...what would we all do for a living...if we got one rewind button? Me? I'd be a forensic pathologist or archaeologist. But...too late now.

Sports marketing or admin. 100%, no questions asked.

It's not too late for me. I am working on finding something there.

LockOut - 2011-12-02 3:10 PM Well, huh. Guess I'll be looking for a new job harder than I thought. That's the silver lining to getting laid off, right?

oh no...you're being laid off?

Sure am. Just got given my 2 weeks. It's amazing here... we are behind schedule, which means we're losing money... so they are laying 15 people off. Like that's going to help them get on schedule.

I can sympathise.  I'm 9 months looking...

Thanks, man. I appreciate it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you.  I just know how scary and awfull it feels and I get anxious for you...  What do you do?  I can check out the story here.  I know people from all walks of life here.

Oh, no no... I appreciate the sympathy. I know what you've been going through, so I know that you can really sympathise.

I'm not sure you'll be a lot of help... I am a civil engineer Though I don't want to do that, I am not a designer at heart. I have a couple leads on project management jobs up here that I am goign to be following up on, but my real passion would be to work in sports in some, any aspect.

How did I not know or forget you were a CE...  Me too.

Yeah, nothing here!  That's for sure.

As for what I would like to do?  I love sports and sports physiology.  I would love to have gotten into sport medicine/training.  You know, the guys you figured out LT through research and developed ways to make athletes better through revolutionary training...  So even be a trainer in some respects.

That or a chef.  I just flat out love to cook just to cook.  Do actually have a job in something I don't even need to get paid want to do it, is a win.  Again, that's why the coaching/training or chef would be so cool.

ex-scientist. Biochemist to be exact. I'm now selling what I used to make.

I too was laid off for cost savings; although the company has a market cap of 154 Billion $$$.

Pete: Better off in the long run. I hope you'll get at least unemployment to get by on. It ain't much, but it helps. And you Canadians have nationalized healthcare which is a blessing. We have to scramble for it and find jobs which offer it.

yep.  Talk about stress when I got diagnosed with cancer after losing my job and getting self insured...  No one would take me and I would be destroyed financially just to get healthy...

BUT, it worked out after tons of work and research into options including leaving the country to get it done.

Has anyone ever gone on a cruise alone? Is that a bad idea?

I would think at least taking a friend would be a good idea just to know your whereabouts but going it alone could be a lot of fun depending on what cruise it is.

seeing that so many things hit you at once...there has to be a deeper meaning to it all. rite?

I'm not sure?  Like I mentioned before.  Life happens, you deal with it, work to make it better, and get on with it.  Everything is a learning experience.  It did get me closer with much of my family.  Which also made the passing of my grandmother the day before thanksgiving more of a "special" bonding time, if that makes sense - since we were all closer than we have been in the past.  I also jumped on the cancer awareness bandwagon via LIVEstrong and such.

We met a couple solo cruisers on some of our trips.  They seemed to enjoy it enough.  There are even singles gatherings on the ships to meet the other...

Personally, I just like to share experiences with someone.  I like traveling with someone, even if it's just a friend.

Good luck!  But yes, the last 10k always sucks!  haha!

I should have postponed my surgery to after this weekend.  The rock and roll las vegas marathon is happening.  But I already put if off to do IMAZ, so I can't keep doing that.

Nope - but if you're just into relaxing by the pool on the boat, and you're ok exploring the ports solo, then it's a good idea!

i went on a cruise but with people years ago. i don't think it's a bad idea. but, just a young woman traveling alone...can attract some bad people.

If you stick the ship and the arranged excursions, perfectly safe and most likely d-bag free!  also, the "finer" cruises would be less creepy.  Princess and Royal Carribean.  Carnival "booze cruise" trips?  the d-bag count is prly higher.

Yeah the only thing is cost... staterooms are the same price if you have 1 or 2 people.
I emailed a girlfriend and she is interested, too. I made sure to say though, that I wanted a vacation where I could spend some time alone, but have someone to hang out with at times too. I just don't want to be on anyone else's schedule.

Looking at Royal Carribean... want to go NOW!

Yeah, I was going to mention that.  Same price for one or two, so might as well get a buddy to split the costs.  Even if they can't afford it, and you REALLY want to go, pay for youself (which you would have to do anyway) and give it as a gift.

When we went to Alaska (the three of us) we were trying desperately to find more family to be the 4th since it would cost no extra from them to go (save the additional airline cost of getting to the departing city)
