Met a great group of people today on my first local group ride!  Lots of mental toughness training today with wind at 10 miles, felt like more, and gust up to 14.  Some of the guys were pretty good riders and let me ask lots of questions.  Technique is key and they gave me some great drills and a place to get on a computrainer for real time evaluation of my stroke.  We rode 26 miles in just under 2 hours.

What a difference riding in a group makes...I would have quit or not pushed as hard with the wind blowing like it was if I had been by myself.  Can't wait for our next ride!

Great job on the ride!

The only wind I had was the fan as I pedalled in the basement while it snowed over a foot yesterday...

Have kept up my running this past couple weeks.  My brothers wife that was missing, her body was recovered in New Mexico... so this last few weeks has been focused on helping him and trying to get in workouts in when i could.

I am up to 26+ miles a week with a long of 10 miles.  But my body so sore from working on my new house i wonder if ill be able to run the 10 scheduled for today.

With life settling down i hope to be back and more active on the mentor group

Okay, it is Monday. A new week. Gonna turn things around attitude wise. I got a lot of things going for me as far as my my long term goal is going. Going to get back on the marathon plan this week after three weeks of sporadic and unfocused training. That said, not really sure what my plan calls for this week, ha. No worries, it is mostly "run a whole bunch".

Oh I know that is a problem. It is hard enough to get a workout in, but if you are drained from other physical labor it sometimes can feel so blahhhhhhhhhh. I used to let it slow me down quite a bit. Usually I try to get the workout in earlier, but that does not always help if you are up late painting. I find that it is more of a sleep issue than a soreness issue. A short workout though is a godsend after doing the asymmetric work involved in house maintenance, helps me feel a bit more balanced.

This week was a complete bust.  I got in 3 workouts all week.  I can make excuses about the weather and all that, but I just wasn't motivated to make it a priority.  Starting again on Monday.  I've already penned in training on the calendar so no excuses!

Oh I know the feeling. Come on Monday!

Monday's here... and mother nature is giving us a hard time down here.  It's been raining nonstop for the past 3 days!  I was able to get in a swim this morning.  Not too much since the lifeguards closed the pool on me.

The plan was to swim 3100 meters.  I got in 1700 and even that was rough.  The lifeguards put me out of my misery.  The actual workout:

300 Warm up
4x75 Choice
400
2x200
100 kick
200
Pool Closed for weather

Plan for the rest of the week:
Tomorrow: Most likely gym since the rain is not supposed to let up until late tonight.

Wednesday: Swim

Thursday: Bike and walk

Friday: Swim

Alrighty, got an easy 16k in today. Feeling stronger in my legs. Was thinking today about how much I am going to peak at in the summer regarding biking and running. Do you think 20 hours a week for 2-3 weeks is too much?

I think that's a lot of training.  But you are going long, and you need a great training base to do so.  Where does this relate to past training efforts?  How much will this impede life?  those are two ?'s I'd have to answer for myself looking at that kind of volume.  That's impressive.

I'm so sorry.  That's terrible.  Be there for your brother.  Spend time with family.  Running can be very theraputic.  Don't overdue it.

Spent 1 hour in the pool today.  I did TI drills for 20 min, followed by a 1500 yd swim.  Day 1 of HIM plan on this site.  This was my first swim since reading TI and focussing on nothing but TI drills over last two weeks of swims.  I think by the end of 1500, my form was right where it was before, I was counting 28-30 strokes/ 25 yds.  At the beginning, I did a few 25's at 24 strokes, and in the drills, I did a few at 18.  I think it will sink in.  My goal is by end of HIM plan that I can swim better than previous 2:15/100 wall I was at for last few months.  Hoping TI can help.

I finished with a 5.5 miler at 8:16/mile.  It snowed yesterday, and dropped down to 16deg. F, so the roads were bad, and I was all bundled in 3 layers.

Tomorrow, I do a 1hr spin bike and sprint training on the treadmill.

Mission st. IPA tonight (2).  Maybe followed by (2) Trader Joe's Hefe's.  I haven't been curious about weight for a few.  I figure with increased volume, I'll adjust diet in a few accordingly.  Hoping to maintain and not go up.

Tough call...volume wise you are okay but like Kevin, some of my training is dictated by work and family. I am not willing to give up that much of my family time yet. Now when the kids are teens and they can come kick my , that will be a different story.

During the middle of the season my college coach usually made us do the drills either at the end of a particularly tough workout or during warm down... his stance was that when you become tired your stroke is going to go back to what's natural (or what you've been doing all along).  When you're doing the drills when you're tired, your retraining your body to do the correct form.

It helped, and that's what I'm doing with my kids.  It's something to try and see if you stay in better form for longer distances.

That makes good sense.  I was so sloppy by the last 500 of the 1500.  Maybe split the drills, and do half after the main set?
