Bill Clinton rode the wave or Ronald Reagan's economic policies. Clinton likes to take credit for a prosperous period when it truth it takes years for economic policy to effect prosperity.

Not to mention this little thing called the Internet that fundamentally changed the economy.

That being said, I'd take Bills economic prowess any day of the week over Bush, Obama, or Hillary.

Oh please.  Reagan buried us in debt.  Clinton rode the wave of the computer industry sure, but don't send all praises to your mighty Reagan.  Microsoft and Intel were started in states that are plainly liberal as far as economic policies go.

I consider myself conservative, but when I go down the platform of a "conservative"  I am shocked.  I for example am way too conservative to ever consider owning a semi-automatic weapon or assault rifle, yet if you are weary of the red neck in the mobile home on the acre lot at the end of the country road owning an AK47 and shooting up everything on his property with it you are labeled the liberal and he is labeled the conservative.

I am fascinated by the many world cultures and did double degrees in Spanish/Engineering in college and was an officer in the Student Association on Campus for International Engineering.  Having learned a second language outside of the home I know that is is not easy and I also know that it is harder for some people (me) than others (my talented class mates).  I have heard 100 times people that have never learned a 2nd language them self saying if an immigrant wants to come to this country they need to learn English.  I am okay with them speaking their own language and am okay with printing community materials in other languages, etc.  I will even try to learn as much Russian, or Mandarin, etc. as I can when working with people from Eastern Europe, China, etc. to pull my weight in the effort for the two of us to communicate with each other.  I know that demanding that English be listed as the official language is a big thing for "conservatives" but I don't see how that makes you conservative when this country has historically been a melting pot.

I do how ever support the traditional family as the building block of our society. I do support limited government.  I do feel that churches and non-profs do a better job of meeting welfare needs in our country than governments programs and entitlements do.  I do support capitalism.  I have been on the fence between Hillary and Donald (Cruz and Sanders won the Primaries in Oklahoma) but was accepting that one of them would be the next president and was trying to determine which one was my preference, but now for my first time am considering voting a 3rd party.  I have been told for 30 years that voting 3rd part is a wasted vote, but voting for someone that you in no way can endorse I feel is is a bigger waste of your vote.

Oh...and why are their more liberals posting on BT than Conservatives.  That is simple.  Liberals read more and argue more.  The personality type that is attracted to the liberal issues is the personality type that also debates politics on line.  Conservatives tend to keep more to them self.  They don't want to debate politics.  Arguing makes them uncomfortable. They want everyone to get along and for things to be left alone so that they can enjoy what they have always had.  I personally would rather sit on a bucket in my pasture and watch my chickens forage for bugs than to talk politics.  I think that make me pretty conservative, but will have to check the parties platform and see what it says that conservatives are supposed to think so I can change my stance if I got this wrong.  I would hate to get things wrong here and be mistaken for a Liberal.  :-)  Actually if more liberals were like me I would vote for more of them.  :-)

Dave - some day we can sit down over a beer and I'll tell you what happened in this country after Reagan got elected behind Carter.  I was in the Marine Corps during the Carter administration and it was an absolute disaster.....bought my first home then too....19% interest.  Reagan changed us.....he made us believe in ourselves.  Even Iran, which held Americans as hostages, released them almost the day Reagan was sworn in so they didn't get attacked and wiped out.

Reagan a great President?  I don't know.... Reagan a great leader?......on man, no doubt. We were a world power again.....without question.  Ask Gorbechov.

As far as our candidates today?  We have no leaders in line.......Clinton is a joke and most probably a criminal, Trump is a moron.......vote your conscience, just don't try to sell either to me.  I've been around at least a bit.  Backing Clinton makes you every bit as dumb as those who back Trump, don't think for a second it doesn't.....we're all rat forked.

A reckoning is coming......but it won't be on behalf of either of these two bozos. It's nothing to run and hide from.....but it's coming.

The ship will get righted because the crew is good.......but we're gonna need a Captain before it happens. Neither of these idiots qualify.  Count on at least 4 more years of stupidity no matter who wins.

A little history....

Reagan defeated the Soviet Union and ended the cold war! He did it thru capitalism and our strong economy. We were in an arms race with the USSR....it was killing the communist Soviets who were spending like 17% of GDP on military spending. The US, with a lot stronger economy, was spending only about 4% of GDP on military spending. And then Reagan went all in! He introduced a missile defense program - we were going to build a space-based anti-ICBM system that would shoot down ICBMs while they were exoatmospheric. The press called it Start Wars. The Soviets simply could not keep up and their economy collapsed....and the USSR crumbled. Reagan's vision and legacy is still alive today and we spend about $7 billion dollars a year on missile defense systems. ($7.5 for FY 2017)

Ever see the movie War Games? It centered around the US/USSR defense policy of MAD or mutually assured destruction. There was NO defense against an incoming nuclear ICBM. Nothing you could do except empty your own magazine. Hence, MAD. But if you could shoot down the enemy's missile....well now, that was a game changer.

Missile Defense is the greatest legacy of the greatest POTUS in the 20th century.

As half-brain said, under Jimmy Carter the Iranians held 54 American hostages for 444 days. When it became clear that Reagan was gonna win the election, the released them. They knew Reagan was not gonna stand for this. I remember in college turning on the TV and seeing Reagan talking about how he was sending bombers to pound Libya in retaliation of them shooting down a 747 over Lockerbie Scotland. Everyone in the student union stood up and cheered! The man had balls and restored American's sense of pride....after having been b-slapped by the Iranians under Carter.

So why does Regan get a pass for balancing the budget because of the cold war, but Obama doesn't get a pass for being handed the recession and 2 wars?  And during that he DECREASED THE DEFICIT.

NEWS FLASH!  Both the Democrats and Republicans want to spend your money, lots of your money.  They just prefer to spend it on different things.  The Federal government gets larger every year, regardless of whether the Republicans or Democrats are in charge.

I agree. I would like to see a balanced budget constitutional amendment. Just make it unconstitutional to spend more money than we take in except in the case of congressionally declared war. Then again, Congress would just declare the 'war on terrorism' as an excuse to not balance the budget.

Maybe the amendment we need is term limits. The reason career politicians won't make the hard decisions is they are too worried about getting re-elected.

Two days in a row now I've walked into the breakroom and Trump is speechifying at a rally...being carried live by MSNBC. Fox and CNN.

I looked up Hillary's schedule and she has one fun raiser engagement and that's it till the next debate......hashimoto's thyroiditis?

Still a long time to go before the election. If she thinks she can just run out the clock, she is making a huge mistake.

Trump is making two speeches a day! Same with Pence. They are both hitting 2 cities/states every day.

When your opponent is currently mired in sexual assault allegations, fighting with his own party, and suing newspapers, best thing to do is shut your mouth, lay low, and prep for the debate.
