Road cycling - 2 hours goal 2:00:20, 37.52 miles, avg speed 18.7mph About one minute from home, at the start, my rear tire went down. Rode back, changed my very first tube, and restarted the workout. Almost done packing up the family for 11 days on the road. BOTW is in hand now. Dare Mighty Things IPA from The Brewing Projekt in Eau Claire, WI. |

Member 2998 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Medium run this morning and then 2200yds in the pool at lunch. Then...an afternoon of finally finishing my flowerbeds, including three bee stings, a horsefly bite, and three hours of being buzzed by a very aggressive hummingbird (wearing red hat and shirt). I’m so glad that project is done!! |

Today was a swim workout. First time swimming a continuous 1500m with no rest, the race distance. 400m medley warmup 1500m freestyle, 28:42 time, 1:55 pace 6x50m kicking only 6x100m breathe every 7 strokes 500m medley cool down Now here I was feeling happy with my swim today and see a workout like that to blow me out of the water. I was 5x50 warm up, 1:55-2:00 pace 5x100 hard, 1:45-1:50 pace 5x50 cool down, 1:55-2:00 pace. 1:000m total. Longest swim since Ironman, March 2017.
And I managed 500m in total - lol! toe cramps attacked and I needed my dinner! First time in a pool since France last year I think; maybe niece swimming in between but that just involves jumping in, balancing on a pull buoy (!!!) etc with my lovely 8 year old niece until we go for cake! hoping to reintroduce more chlorine in my life as i feel so much better afterwards. |

228 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open I signed up for a 5k with my daughter tomorrow morning. This should be interesting. She did Girls on Track at her school, they did run/walk working up to 5k distance. So last week I asked her, 'Do you still want to do the 5k?' 'Sure.' 'Have you been running?' 'Umm.. I ran a mile yesterday. It only took me 15 minutes.' 'Ok, great.' I don't really care how fast we go, I'm doing it to spend time with her and encourage her to be active. But in my head I'm thinking 'I can just about walk a 15 min mile.' And 'running a mile is not the same as a 5k' Ah well, I'll try to have fun. |

What a lovely dad thing to do! Bet with you encouraging her she'll be able to run more than 1 mile. Are there maybe some drills you can do that look like running but are slower? Feet to bum, high knees etc?

Regular 1670 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Busy weekend for us. Saturday was the little mans 2nd birthday, so very hectic, lots of people over, but he seemed to enjoy it. And was a very, very spoiled little boy. Unfortunately his kindy has had some cases of hand foot and mouth, and Sunday morning he started showing some symptoms... So off to the Dr this afternoon, and he'll likely be home from kindy all week. So we're in for a tough few days. Sunday was my Birthday. Celebrated with a 90 minute run with fast finish with a mate, followed by bacon and eggs for breakfast. Also, this happened: You know you have a good wife when she pushes you to do it.. But, I'm currently a long, long way off where I need to be, so I've got 6 months to prepare myself for a 3 month Ironman plan. Deferral to 2021 is an option, but definitely not the preferred one. Te good thing about being a numbers geek and recording everything is I know where my fitness was, and what workouts I was doing before my previous Ironman, and although I am behind, I'm not that far behind, so I'm sure I can get there. 1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Just finished a 4 mile run. Took Vader out yesterday for his first outside ride this year (yes, that’s my tri bike.. what, don’t we all name our bikes? ??). Heading to the pool for my first swim in a couple of months. I’m home finally with two weeks off, yay!!! I need to make sure it’s worthwhile during the week as we’re going camping this weekend so won’t get anything in there since it’s only Fri-Sun. (Well, actually I could bike or run before we leave Friday so there’s that!). I’m just happy to be home for a bit. ?? |

Member 2998 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Always a fun day when you get to trip in a hole on your long run! Yeah...I swear I’m getting clumsier!!! (Which i would have thought was impossible!). Made it a little over an hour into my long run (of 1:50) today when I just put my foot right in a tiny hole in the sidewalk. It must have been just right though, because my ankle turned a little and then every step was painful until I just gave in—after trying to walk it out a little. *sigh*. At least last weeks long run was good. I also had a 2650yd swim this morning that went really well. Hit all my time goals in that one. Win some, lose some. |

Mine are called Jaffa: And Gino: It's a Bianchi and named after Gino Bartali: Gino Bartali was one of the most beloved of Italian cyclists. He won the Tour de France in 1938 and 1948. With his cycling career as a cover, Bartali cycled perhaps thousands of kilometers between cities as far apart as Florence, Lucca, Genoa, Assisi, and the Vatican in Rome. Hidden in the frame of his bike were falsified identity cards and other secret documents.(https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/gino-bartali) (It looks a bit like this one...) |

Member 2998 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Up early for a VO2 max workout. It nearly killed me. Now the real fun begins. Starting today, my Dad and I are going to tackle a bunch of projects that involve trenching—landscape drainage, burying the sump pump discharge line, burying electrical cable from the house to the shed...you know, all the good things in life. Actually, I hate projects like this...lots of hard work and in the end, no one would know you did anything unless you told them. |

Actually, I hate projects like this...lots of hard work and in the end, no one would know you did anything unless you told them. VO2 max workouts first thing suck. I pretty much stopped doing them because I could never maintain target power after the first couple of intervals. I've been training quite a bit lately, something like 21 of the last 23 days and doing doubles on like a third of them. Big ride was 32 miles on Saturday. Took yesterday off (planned) after drinking my way around Baltimore Sunday and we stayed downtown. Got it a yoga session early this morning then biked about 45 minutes on the trainer, main interval was a 9' over/under which felt surprisingly good, but glad I didn't have another one scheduled. 61 Shakopee, Minnesota | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Hello all- I've returned from vacation, and jumping back into training. I had intentions of getting in a few runs on vacation, but in the end I took a break from EVERYTHING. Eleven days off, and it was glorious! Yesterday I was back at it with a Brick workout. Road cycling: 1:30:36 time, 29.27 miles, 19.4mph average speed Outside run: 31:29 time, 4.03 miles, 7:49 average pace Today will be a swim, going for another 1500m freestyle (race distance) with no rest. Ten days until my first triathlon! |

61 Shakopee, Minnesota | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Good to have you back! Any BOW's whilst you were away? Workout first, then beer talk. Today was a repeat of the swim workout I did just before vacation. 400m medley warmup 1500m freestyle, 29:03 time, 1:56 pace 6x50m kicking only 6x100m breathe every 7 strokes 500m medley cool down Tomorrow a run, with probably some mile repeats at sub-8:00 pace. Beer on vacation, there was plenty of variety. The stores in Yellowstone sold local microbrews by the single, so was able to try a bunch. Nothing stood out as amazing though. Also stopped at five breweries along the way: Ten Sleep Brewing in Ten Sleep, WY (do a Google Images search, the setting is amazing) Millstone Brewing in Cody, WY Red Lodge Ales in Red Lodge, MT Mt. Rushmore Brewing in Custer, SD Sick-n-Twisted Brewing in Hill City, SD All of them had very average beer, except for Red Lodge. They had some good stuff. But the best one, and the Beer of Last Week, was the Red Lodge Ales Bruno's Montana IPA. They didn't have it on tap, but the waitress recommended it, so I bought two 220z bottles. It was very tasty, and looked very good sitting next to the frying pan, on my camping stove, with two fresh-caught rainbow trout sizzling inside. |

Member 2998 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open 45’ run this morning with a leaden body. Yesterday I trencher about 500’ of trench for some landscape drainage. Today I “get” to fill it in. Needless to say, after a long day in the yard, todays workout wasn’t stellar. |
