Way to go with your first spinning class. Bet four years ago you would have never thought you would be the one teaching a class like that. You have done awesome.

YAY Heather!  Congrats on the spinning teaching!  You rock!  And 6 tri's....yes, I'd say you have an addiction!   But hey, it's a good one right?

Training....I'm in a recovery week (every 4 weeks), so it's kinda nice.  The IM is on my mind every freakin day.  Super exciting, but pretty darn scary too!

Ha, well when the day arrives, you all can follow my progress online at www.ironmanlive.com And you can even watch me cross the finish line

Zoya had a little bike accident yesterday...she's ok though!  Thank goodness.  Z, if I could ride with you, I would!

I have a rest day today (how I love those!).  Back to the grind tomorrow!

Z, I'm just glad that you weren't seriously hurt. Make sure you get the bike checked out. Last year when I had my spill, I ended up messing up the back break toggle on the handle bars. Not a good thing to be missing when you are going down hill. Don't want to stop with just the front, that is a sure fire way to go head over heels.

You'll get better with the biking with more practice. If I was closer, I would ride with you too.

Zoya, I'm glad you're okay.  I saw your thread on the other forum man, your knee looks like it really hurt.  I second getting the bike checked just to make sure everything is aok.

Cathy, That is totally cool that we can watch you live!  I'm psyched I'll be watching.  Your logs look awesome.  Tell us how you find the time when do you do most of your training?  Do you get up super early?  I want to be like you when I grow up to be an IM triathlete!

Went over to the LTS to talk to them about getting a bike fit like you suggested.  They were closed doing inventory.  I spoke with the manager ( I know her) and she asked me what I needed and I said, "I'm going to buy a bike!" and she said, "Come on in!" She gave me their Felt catalog and marked some prices on different model Felts; B12 $2700, 225 $1999, S32 $1449, Cervelo P2SL D/A $1850.  What do you think of the prices?  Are those decent?  She also told me to look at the Kuota K-Factor she didn't give me any prices on those but said they can order them.  I'm going to call the guy that does the bike fits at their store and set up a time with him.  She said they charge $75 for a bike fit but if I buy a bike from them they'll credit it back.

Hope everyone has a safe fun week!

OMG Z that looks ouchie!!! That looks like my elbow after my last mountain bike spill!!! I have not been on it since. Hope you are okay!

Also after looking at your log what in the world is an Irish Car Bomb????? hahahaha

Cathy--I cannot wait to watch...Mel and I should drink Mojitos or Margaritas while watching it!!!! I want to do an IM when I grow up too!

I got my new bike frame this week it is beautiful! When I got it to the LBS where I go the mechanic originally thought it would cost about $400 for parts and fit. After he looked at what I bought and what came with the bike he explained that 9 spd parts do not work with dura ace 10 spd components. So long of the short is it is going to cost another 600-800 to fit the bike with parts....but I guess in the long run it will be worth it and it was a steal! It retails at $5600 new. I bought it for $1100 from a friend who is sponsered by FELT racing up north. Here it is:

Hope you all have a lovely evening I am swimming in the am!!!!

So, this must be the month for bikes. Cool bike Heather. Good luck with choosing one Mel.

Zoya, it will get better. I saw the pic of your knee. Ouch.

LOL Heather, what great bike ! Irish Car Bomb... ok.. it is a pint of Guinness, then you drop a shot of Bailey's in it (with a shot) and gulp it right away. It tastes like chocolate milk, i swear. The trick it you have to drink it before the Guinness settles ;-)

Wow Zoya, you did have a tough crash! Glad to see you were out running with no pain. I know a great cure for no bike wrecks, don't ride! I haven't been on my bike since the HIM I did last October, pathetic I know but I have been focusing on running as I did a marathon in December and am planning to do another one at the end of February. Then I plan to get back on my bike!

Cathy - I can only imagine that the IM is on your mind everyday, it is on my mind most days and I am not even doing it. I am trying to see if there is anyway I can get up to spectate and cheer you on. My trainer and some other folks from here are doing it as well and I am slightly considering signing up for 2009.....or maybe I will wait for 2010, not sure yet. Anyhow, the kids get out of school the Friday before the IM and I was trying to figure out how to get them to Seattle and then head over to Idaho to see the event. I am still trying to work out the logistics, but if I am not there in person, I certainly will be watching you via www.ironmanlive.com .

My life feels like it is finally starting to settle back down after craziness at the holidays, moving my office, getting kids back in school, remodeling our kitchen and trying to keep up with my workouts. I hope everyone else is having a good start to 2008!

I got to see Heather's new bike today at the tri store.  It's really nice!! She's a lucky girl! I also spoke with the bike guy at the store about bikes.

Cathy, The bike guy was talking to me about the Felt S22.  Is there a big difference  between the S32 & S22?  Pricewise there is about a $500 difference.  He also said since I have a 52cm road bike that usually with a tri bike it's 2cm less so he was saying with the Felts if it is less than 52cm they take 650s which he said 700s are much better.  I was just wondering what your thoughts are on this?  I am going to the other tri store on Sat for a bike fit.  I 'll find out then what my exact size is for a tri bike.

Z, My husband likes Irish car bombs.  I've never had one but he said they're good!  Maybe we can all have one when Cathy crosses the finish line!

Oh my, you all have been busy here.  I have to go through all the posts!  But Mel, wanted to get back to you on the bike.  The Felt S22 is a better bike, though I can't say I'm totally convinced that there should be a $500 difference.  They both have Dura Ace shifters and the 22 has a DA rear derailleur.  The 32 has and Ultegra rear derailleur.  The 22 has better wheels.  Both have carbon forks.  I think either bike is great!  And are you looking at '07s or '08 models?  If they have '07s, you should be able to get a smokin' deal!  And you CAN try to negotiate a price....I did that and got $150 off the price tag.

As far as size, I saw that the 48 and 50 have 650 wheels.  They say the 700s are better...less rolling resistance and this makes the 700s faster.

And I agree with the bike shop person that usually you have a slightly smaller size bike in a tri frame....mainly b/c of being in aero position, you can't reach too far or it's uncomfortable.  Your bike fit will be THE most impt thing!!!!  When you are fit, ask them if a Felt works for you...or if there is another bike they recommend.

I hope that's helpful...if you have any more questions, let me know!

Cathy, Thanks for answering my questions so quickly, I really appreciate it!  The bike store also quoted me $1850 for a Cervelo P2 SL/DA http://www.cervelo.com/bikes.aspx?bike=P2SL2008Is this a better bike than the Felts?

If the Cervelo fits you, get that one!  The components are much better, compact crank, and steeper seat post angle (a true tri geometry).  Nice bike!

That is not to say the Felts aren't good, but the Cervelo components beat out the Felts.

Cathy, Thanks for getting back to me, once again, so quickly!  I had my bike fit this morning and he said I'm a 51cm in a Cervelo and a 52cm in a Felt.  I tried out the Cervelo on the trainer and it fit me really well and is very comfortable.  It's going to take some getting used to since it's my first tri bike.  He also talked to me about the Kuota K-factor.  He is going to get it shipped from their other store and I'm going to go in on Thurs to try it out.  I'm going to ride both the Cervelo and Kuota.  Which one do you think is better?  He said the Kuota is completely carbon and was a best seller last year.

Mel: both bikes are great!  Full carbon bike frames are NICE.  I think it will come down to riding both and see which feels better to you.  You are going to ride this bike a LOT, so be sure it is the right one for you!    I'm dying to hear about your decision!!!!

I GOT MY BIKE!!!!!!! WAHOO!!!! I'm so excited! I bought the Cervelo. I rode both of them but the Cervelo just felt & handled better than the Kuota. It was a tough decision but the Cervelo won out. I am so excited I think I'm going to ride for hours tonight! Thank you so much for all your help Cathy! I really appreciate it!!! I'll get my husband to take a picture tonight so I can post it on here.

Hi girls TGIF!!!!

Unfortunately it is raining here!!! The weather has been still cold here I am ready for Spring!!! I need to get outside on my bike. I chopped my hair 7 inches this week. I have been swimming so much I got sick of taking 45 minutes to dry it. Perhaps this will make me run faster too! NOT lol.

I hope all of you are doing well and your training is coming along. I am taking the weekend off and hiking in the mountains with my hubby!

Heather, we need a new pic of your haircut. I totally understand about the hair. Even though mine is short (maybe 4 inches) I have to style it when going to work because my hair is just limp limp limp. I enjoy the days that I swim after work and just drive home with a wet head.

We have had rain here in GA also. I'm glad for we are so desperate for water. But the rain is a damper on the training. I've been sick since last Sat, went to the Doc and got meds yesterday, so hopefully I'll start feeling better soon. I was to start my training plan this week, but I guess I start it next week. Don't have any races lined up yet for this year, so I better get busy planning.

All this talk of swimming is making me feel like I need to get in the pool. I went to a spin class yesterday and I think that was maybe my second or third time on a bike since my HIM last October. I have been totally focused on running and doing strength training. I am doing another marathon on Feb. 23 and this time I will be doing it without my dad so I am hoping my pace will be a bit faster.

Kendra - hope you feel better soon, time to sign up for some races! My husband signed us up for all kinds of events last week so now I guess I must get in the pool and on my bike.

Hey Ladies,

I have a ten miler to run at the beginning of April. My knee has been bugging me lately, so we will see how it goes. I have been training 6 days a week most of the time. I hope to have a good season of sprints and olys.
