Zoya - my knee is buggin me as well. I ran a full marathon in February and it started bothering me about 3 weeks before the run. I rested, stretched, iced, etc. and it was fine during the marathon. However, now I am trying to run some more and whenever I go faster, it bugs me again. Any ideas what your knee issue is? I don't know what mine is, I was thinking IT band, but I really don't understand anatomy well enough to diagnose.

I'm not really sure, mine hurts when I run uphill. The area where I leave is full of short steep hills.

Good Luck on the playtri HIM Cathy!

My knees bothered me after the 1/2 mary in Dec.  I think something happened during the race.  Most likely overuse.

I haven't been consistently training for the last few months.  I started a job about 2 months ago and I'm also a SAHM so I've been juggling that.  We are getting our house ready to put on the market so we've been doing a lot of work for that.   About 2 weeks ago I found out something that my dh has been doing and hiding from me.  Basically my whole world fell apart and I'm trying to keep it all together for my children who just turned 4.  It looks like I'm not going to be ready to do my first HIM in May.  Definitely not physically or mentally ready for it.

I just started yesterday to get back into training mode.  I swam and ran.  Today I rode my new bike!  I decided I'm not going to let anything get in the way of something I really enjoy doing (unless my kids need me, obviously)

I'm going to Heather's spin class this afternoon!

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Hi everyone thought I would check in too! After a bout with the flu we all seem to be recovered in my household--I missed two whole weeks of training...YUCK>I did a practice tri last weekend---I got my butt kicked on the bike!!! I have been consistently teaching spin classess or attending them but I tell you it is not the same as riding outdoors!!!! I have my first sprint tri on March 29th which also happens to be the weekend we are moving UGH it just happened that way! I am taking statistics in grad school this semester only two more classes and I am done I cannot wait Cathy I feel your pain with school and training it is crazy!!! You are AMAZING doing a HIM. All of you women in here amaze me....I still HATE running but have been making myself do it at least twice a week..I have to say that every once in a GREAT while it is actually starting to feel good, and the good news is that nothing hurts anymore when I do it.

KNS what is up with that avatar that is funny as crap!!!!

Mel I send good thoughts your way every day and you know I am here to talk or go to starbucks and be bad and drink high caffeinne fattning drinks with you whenever you need too!!! The only advice I will keep giving you is DONT STOP TRAINING...it makes you feel good and it is YOURS!!!!!

I have gotten involved with the challenge thread and this month we are doing a bike challenge. It is just kind of fun to change your avatar to go along with the challenge of the month. Glad you like it. It cracks me up each time I see it.

Hello everyone...stopped by to see how everyone was doing.

Mel - I am so sorry to hear about your news! Stay strong and definitely don't stop training. Use it as a way to relieve stress as I am sure you are dealing with lots of it. Hope things have improved!

Heather- how did your first tri of the season go?

Kendra - how are you?

Zoya - how is your knee? My knee pain seems to be better since I have lowered my run volume after training and running in 2 marathons in three months.

I have my first tri of the season coming up in a week and a half. I am doing Playtri, the same one Cathy is doing, except that I signed up to do the oly instead of the HIM. Thank goodness I didn't sign up for the HIM, I just got on my bike for the first time last weekend since I did my last HIM in October and Tuesday was my first swim since last October. I have been totally run focused and lots of strength training and boot camps. I don't feel like I have lost any fitness, but my training on swimming and biking has been non existent. Since I am already signed up and paid for the event I am going to treat it like a training day and do the best I can, plus I can't wait to meet Cathy in person!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi girls

How is everyone! Yes I did my first tri of the season. It was GREAT, however I have been in the midst of trying to move (last Friday) the day before the tri. Things have been crazy around here!!! It was weird that it felt like a break to stop and do the tri!!! Hahahah

The swim was great, 13th overall. The bike was OK but very windy and uphill at the end! The run was slow but good for ME. I did my last 5k in about 45 min. This one was 35 minutes, so I was pleased. The run course was TERRIBLE! Uphill gravel, uneven grass, and mud.

But the biggest thing is that I had a BLAST.

My eating habits have gone to crap, although I have not gained any weight thanks to training. I have to get back on track with that cause it makes me feel yucky and tired.

I want to hear how everything is going for everyone else?

Heather

Jill and Cathy Good Luck in your tris coming up!  That's awesome you're going to get to meet in person.  Have fun, I hope the weather is good.

WTG Heather!  I wish I could've been there to see you! Great job!

I just wanted to say to everyone Thank you so much for the support.  It means so much to me.  My husband & I are taking it one day at a time and he's seeing a therapist.  Hopefully they'll be able to help.  My whole family has been sick and we're finally all healthy again (knock on wood!) I'm back at it this week and hopefully Heather & I will get a chance to bike together this week.

I hope everyone is doing well!  Good Luck with your training.

You guys rock...it is so cool to see you all training

Heather, congrats!  10 minutes off your run time is amazing!  Sounds like you had a great race!

Mel: hang in there...we're all here to support YOU when needed!  Glad you are all getting healthy.  Seems like winter really takes it's toll.  Bring on spring!  Oh, right...it's probably actually spring there in NC.  It freaking snowed here today!

Kendra: The woman of the bike   You are amazing.

Zoya: Killer 10mile race chica!  You can see Z's race report here

Jill: I'm really looking forward to meeting you this weekend!

I have my first race of the season on Sunday.  I'm DRIVING 13 hrs each way to TX with another BTer.  Playtri HIM.  I'm really not ready for the race, but that's ok.  This is the time to fine tune everything for the IM!  11 weeks to Coeur d'Alene!  ACK!

Oh and I have a new bike here  I just got it and I HOPE I can have it ready for the race on Sunday.

Hope you all are well otherwise!

Cathy, sweet bike.

Glad to know that all are training. I've been seeing a doc about my PF and am seeing progress finally. He has given me the green light to walk the 1/2 mary on the 19th. Said it will put me back a little in the progress towards healing but nothing that will damage me permantly. So SLC, here I come on the 18th.

Hey girls. Did the 1/2 mary this weekend. My walk was way slower and hurt like the blazes, but the good news is that the next day the foot was doing great. no limping, pain was like a 2 as compared to the 8 during the race. Doc has given me the green light to start training again, moderately. Yahoo.

Kendra - glad to hear you have the green light to start training again!

How is everyone else doing? Spring seems like an especially busy time of the year, but thankfully my kids are now done with soccer and dance is almost over. My 9 year old is doing a kid's tri on May 11th (Mother's Day) and we have been having fun doing some training together. I did an oly a few weeks ago (the one where Cathy did the HIM) and I have a sprint this weekend. Hope everyone is enjoying their spring!

Hi Girls

Things are steady going here-last grad school class tonight whoopee!!!! We moved so training has been a little weird over the past month. I have a swim (OLY) distance in a few weeks on a relay and then a Sprint tri in June.

I have been a bit discouraged on the bike---I am still struggling with hills. I have talked to people and looked up lots of info. the main thing is that the bottom line is weight = slow hills...according to the "ratios" I have been reading about I should be at about 155 for maximum power. UGHHH that is pretty unrealistic for me. I went on a long ride Sunday and did great everywhere BUT the hills---it sucks cause I can keep up the rest of the time.

Anyhow I am going to keep plugging away not sure how I can possibly eat any less with the training that I do--I just might tweak it some!

Talk to you all soon!

Heather

Cathy - Just a couple of more weeks. I can't wait to read your race report and hear how you "enjoyed" your IM.

Hi there!

Yes I am still in Charlotte---moved to the Wesley Chapel area cow country outside the city

Things have been going okay at home---kinda crazy family drama happening but training keeps me sane!

Did the swim let of an OLY last weekend and it was fun until I ran up a hill to the transition area and pulled my achillies tendon badly. I have been babying it this week and it is still sore hopefully it will get better soon.

My swimming has gotten very strong---still slack on the cycling and running. Have a sprint in about 2 weeks cannot wait hopefully my foot will feel better.

I hope you all are happy, healthy, and well!

Heather
