Mus' be 'cause you're in it.

Good point.... maybe I should walk out. If I had you, Beth, Dee and Cat in here... the entire building would probably spontaneously combust. Too much hotness for one room to take.

enders_shadow - 2008-07-16 12:17 PM Afternoon, Nibbs! Wish I could tell you I was doing something cool like watching the boring TdF stage, but instead I was shoving my mother out of the house and trying to get my life back. Mothers...can't live with em.

I know that feeling.  Sometimes it's nice to be far away from family.

So Kristen,

tell us more about your trip

Let's see.

I drank a lot of wine.

I ate a lot of food.

Mmmm.

That's probably the Cliff Notes version.

So Kristen,

tell us more about your trip

More things to know about wine country in NY...

* They are better at white than red (reisling is their specialty)
* They are more prodigious at sweet than dry (ewww...at least a dessert wine on every menu)
* 2006 was a lousy year for reds (don't ask - just don't drink)
* They do not age their wines enough (they admit to this)
* They could do better - they are still a bit in compete mode, rather than work together mode
* They thought it was odd that we would go there to taste wine
* Dano's on Seneca is a fun place to eat (Austrian/Bavarian sausages & sides, but upscale)
* Limoncello is the nectar of the gods.

It's a very strong lemon liquor...a couple of the wineries were making it (along with grappa, brandy, and sherry).

Six Mile Creek Vineyards in Ithaca made a fantastic one.

I didn't drink the grappa. I did drink the sherry's and the limoncello's.

Sugar Daddy has a stronger stomach and drank the brandy's and the port's (but even he won't touch grappa).

Here's a recipe I found on line that sounds about right:

7 Lemon
1 L Grain alcohol
1 L Water
700 gr Sugar

Mixing instructions:
Soak skin of 7 lemons in alcohol for 2 days. Strain. Boil water and sugar and chill. Mix with alcohol. Store in the fridge.

Pretty much lemonade hopped up on grain alcohol.

We have a friend who loves grappa and always brings a bottle on our yearly ski trips.  He and Andy are the only ones who can drink it.

I first had the limoncello pleasure in Italy, on the Isle of Capri.  We were walking down one of the hills and some old lady was selling her homemade blend.  Amazing!  I was only 17 at the time actually, and I blame her for my love of liquers.  Mmmm... Amaretto or Grand Marnier.

Hithced a free trip up to Boston last summer with my parents.  We stumbled onto the St. Agrippina parade in the North End.  Sat in a bar with a big picture window, watched the parade, and got all warmed up on Limoncello.  It's always a wonderful time with the stuff.

Yeah...finally got the last question.  It's from my adviser and I feel like it's the hardest one.  He made up for it by giving me "extra time" and said I could turn it in before the weekend.  Except that I have to turn it in by Friday morning so we can leave.  I'm frustrated with him.

See you all later.  Back to the grind.

Good luck!

I had a VERY intimidating adviser in grad school.  In fact, he was kind of a jacka$$ , and his heavy German accent didn't do anything to smooth that fact over.  It was also kind of weird that my dad was this guy's GA when he was college.  He turned out to be really cool the last few weeks though.  Tough no doubt, but respectful of the effort and quite congrulatory when it was all said in done.  So, with the work you're putting in, I'm expecting much the same.  You'll do fantastic!
