He's not driving 4 hrs each way for a dozen donuts. He's driving it for the TOTAL EXPERIENCE. There's the initial run, followed by choking down 12 donuts, followed by attempting NOT to puke on the return run, while dodging puddles of puke left by other competitors, and of course, the overall craziness of 3000 competitors, many of whom are crazy-college students still hungover from the party the night before.

Yep. I gotta believe he's going for the total package.

Of course, he's already doing the Reindeer Run in December. It involves a 5K and eating a stack of pancakes....

Driving 4 hrs for a party, now that's a different story.

I know there's more to it than just donuts. My comment was meant a little tongue-in-cheek there. Still, if I'm puking, I'd prefer it was due to beer consumption rather than donuts.

Well, shoot.  I was gonna paint Alex's room today but I cannot find my paintbrush.  I'd skip it and just roll on the paint but she has one tiny sliver between the door and corner that needs a brush.  I do not feel like going to the hardware store to get one either.  Oh well, it's rainy anyway.  The paint will dry faster tomorrow.  I shall wait I guess.  Bummer.

movingsouth - 2009-10-12 11:54 AM EVIL mates-  I was away for the weekend - but I ran, on the beach.  Do I get extra points to slogging through the sand?  It was about 1/3 of my run.  Super slow, but what a workout!  I've updated the spreadsheet for those missing miles at last count and am now off for another few miles!

-Cynthia

I think running on the beach should count for double.

Last time I ran on the beach, I struggled, while various and sundry folks breezed by me with nary an ankle turn.

How do they do that?

Sledge - 2009-10-13 6:38 AM

Good morning EVIL Reapers!  I'm finally back from COLD Colorado, and need to settle back into my running routine.  Got up this morning to go out, and it was just so dark that it gave me the creeps.  I didn't go!  But that's ok -- tonight is Torture Dan night so I'll get some running in then...

The strangest thing though... I didn't run in the dark because last week I was talking with some neighbors, and they were convinced that the bears have come back to our neighborhood (trash cans upside down and trash bags pulled apart).  I just don't want to encounter any bears in the dark!  So I went out to the mailbox to get the newspaper, and the front page story (with pictures!) was about how many bear sightings there have been lately.  I think I made the right decision.   But I have to come up with a plan for running until the end of daylight savings time.  I think I'll start running on base until then...

Heh. Reminds of the time I encountered a fox in my neighborhood while running. It appeared to be stalking me. So, I went home.

Then, I had a friend who was chased by a racoon (honest) on a trail run one day.

Yeah. It's not necessarily the large, scary carnivores you need to fear. I'll have to tell you my turkey story someday.

Happychick - 2009-10-12 7:08 PM Hey All ~ I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!!  I went to update the spreadsheet and see that we are in 3rd...I KNOW we can change that!   With that being said, my update included my 10 mile run on Sunday and I gotta say, I am totally stoked.  I finished it in 1:32:01 so I'm thinking that my goal of a 2hr 1/2 marathon in 4 weeks isn't such an outlandish goal!!

It'll be easy. You'll see!

I don't need to do the floors, but definitely find myself in the mood to curl up with my Kindle and finish the latest book I'm reading.  I'm on book 7 in the Sookie Stackhouse series.  I had a really difficult time putting it down last night to go to sleep.  Of course, that probably also explains why I'm yawning so much this morning, because I stayed up too late reading!  LOL

Good Afternoon E.V.I.L. Runners!  Once again mother nature has rewarded my morning procrastination with afternoon sunshine!  I don't think this kind of reinforcement will be good for me in the long term but today I will take it.  Off to get a 3 mile run in per plan.

Have  a pleasant afternoon everyone!

Okay, I broke down and went to the hardware store and got a paintbrush.  First coat of Aqua Breeze is on the walls.  The lighting in Alex's room sucks so I will for sure have to put on a second coat.  I am sure I didn't get great coverage cause I couldn't see!  I hope she likes the color!

A turkey story?  That intrigues me cause I have turkey's that live all around me.  I just found out we have fisher cats that live near us too.  I don't know what a fisher cat is but I think it is mean and runs faster than me.

Ughh - I hate painting...  Probably because that is how I supported myself during college for a year... 2 bedroom apartment - $65.  Took me two hours...

I made the aquaintance of a big gaggle of vultures last week.  They were making a quick snack of some road kill.  I didn't think they were going to let me run past.  After making some threatening jestures they finally took flight and perched in tree.  And of course it was an out and back run so I had to run past them on my way back home.  Stupid, dirty, stinky birds.

Heh.  I read the first two books in that series in about 2 days.  Such fun and easy reads!  If you're looking for another fun and easy, perfect for Halloween read, check out Breathers: A Zombie's Lament.  I was browsing in Barnes and Noble and came across it on a "Halloween Reading" display.  Really enjoyable read.

Oh My! Where were you running Em? I have never seen a vulture but cannot even think of vultures without thinking of my favorite childhood movie Jungle Book.  The vultures were based on the Fab 4 and always cracked me up.  This clip doesn't have them singing, too bad.  I suppose your vultures were not as fun!

I was running out in farm country.  There tends to be a lot of vulture encounters during the peak road kill months.  Every time I see them I think:

"What we gonna do tonight?"
"I don't know.  What you want to do?"

I love my kindle - which version do you have?  I have the first generation - I like the fact that I can add SD cards and the battery can be changed out...

I have the first generation as well, and I'm glad for the same reasons.   I hate having to slog through pages of books on my Kindle.  I only usually keep about 15-20 books actively on the Kindle and keep everything else on an SD card.  When I'm done with the books on the Kindle, I moved them back to the SD card and move a new block of unread books over the Kindle memory.  I also like that the first generation version is a bit more compact than the newer one(s) as well.

Since I've been restricted to just walking for now until the doc clears me to wog again, the Kindle keeps me great company on the treadmill, too.  I adjust the font size up to about the second from the largest size and then turn on the automatic page turning feature.  The timing works perfectly for reading while I'm walking and I never even have to touch my Kindle.
