Champion 10742 Ames, IA | Subject: RE: Gabbing Gobblers - November Challenge Well, after 12 days of not running I decided to head out for a short test run tonight. The results were not good. There is still a fair amount of pain in the right hip. I can walk, bike, swim, squat, lunge, and a myriad of other activities without a bit of pain, but running really brings it out. I guess its time for me to stop being stubborn and head to the doctor |

How does everyone do it? I did my first (and last!) HIM in May, and felt like I coasted through the summer. I'm trying to get serious again, but I'm just not feeling it. Any suggestions? I find it really hard to stay motivated without a race or a specific goal to look forward to. I've been struggling, especially since I haven't been running because of the injury. The only thing I've been real consistent with so far is swimming and that's because I set a specific goal of lowering my 1000yd TT time by 1:30 by the end of January. I think about that goal every time I'm contemplating whether or not to make it to the pool. So pick a race or a specific goal to start working towards. And keep participating in challenges. Their accountability has gotten me out the door more than once. great advice Neal! These challenges have made me get out and "do" the training too! |

Elite 3447 West Allis, WI | Subject: RE: Gabbing Gobblers - November Challenge billsorg - 2009-11-12 8:41 AM Did a 45 min. trainer ride this morning. It was the first time using my Cycleops Fluid 2 that I bought off eBay a few weeks ago. I LOVED it! So I just need to get a 45 min swim in between now and Saturday to stay on track for my November goals! Motivation is so tough this time of year! It think without this challenge, I would have thrown in the towel and just started tri training in January. So count me in for the next few months of challenges. And I agree with Neal... if I don't have a specific goal, then I'm useless. I thought putting my second HIM on the calendar for 2010 would motivate me throughout the off-season, but it didn't. So, Dee... THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for organizing this challenge... it's basically all that's been keeping me from playing racquetball 5 times a week and completely blowing off my tri training. Way to go! |

I'm so glad that I discovered triathlons! A couple of kids disappeared from a house nearby, armed with guns and ammo. There are helicopters and police cars all over the place. Believe me, I make a slow, easy to shoot at target.... Very scary Dee....Please stay safe! |

Elite 3447 West Allis, WI | Subject: RE: Gabbing Gobblers - November Challenge Sledge - 2009-11-13 5:39 AM Good morning Gobblers! I'm so glad it's Friday, even though I already had a weekend in the middle of my week with the tropical storm/hurricane blowing through. What's everyone up to this weekend? It's race season (running) down here, but I'm skipping this weekend and racing next weekend. We're heading to Orlando for a few days to go be big kids instead, and also to celebrate our 25th anniversary! The celebration is a week early because of work things we have to do, but when you are married to an airline pilot you have to take the days when they are available. Have a super weekend! Have a great time! And congrats on 25 yrs! |

I'm going to try to go for a run a little later. My right foot is having some PF problems today, so I've been stretching my calves and running my foot over a golf ball. It's helping. Anyone know of other ways to help stretch out PF? I've found massaging the soleus muscle helps me a little. Really push into the muscle.... I'll try that. Unfortunately, it hurts and I'm ticklish. The hurting is a sign I need to do it more I guess. This is why I hate wearing heels. It got way worse when I wore a pair to go out to dinner Saturday night. Jen, sorry the Princess Feet are acting up. I've given up heels, except for special occasions and always pay the price. Here's one stretch I like alot. Kneel on the ground with your injured foot on the floor and your opposite knee on the ground. Put your body weight over the leg with the injured foot and lean forward while keeping the heal on the ground. Hold for 15 to 20 seconds. Repeat several times and then switch to the opposite foot. Hope you're feeling better soon!
Thanks for the suggestions! Wearing different shoes and stretching have made a big difference. So, for now, I'm not going to get a boot or brace. I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. My legs have been really tight lately. No idea what's going on. |

Elite 3144 | Subject: RE: Gabbing Gobblers - November Challenge Good evening Gobblers! I got my 3.5 miler in today. Tomorrow is a speed-work day with six 400m repeats. If I have time I'm gonna sneak in an ST session as well. There used to be a great little workout station by the track I usually use with pull up bars and such, but they removed it when they did "improvements" this summer. Not sure what they improved, except less parking, no extra equipment, and no more water fountains. Oh well... |

I'm also in a fog today... felt like I never got into a good, deep snooze last night. Already had an XL Dunkin Donuts coffee... YUM!!! Happy training, everyone!!!
