MRDAVIDALEXANDER - 2011-09-19 8:00 PM Bone Scan for me on Thursday.  I tried running Friday and I could feel something every step. I guess my fate for IMFL will come down to the bone scan.  I am feeling pretty good now (post 1 week HIM).  I am hoping it was a muscle strain and I can jump back into things fairly quickly.  I haven't ran since Friday but feel like I should try it one more time.

Good luck tomorrow!

Go to the "calendar" view of your training log and click on "actual". This will bring up a calendar style display of your actual training. Highlight what you want to copy - right click - copy. Then paste into your post. Hope this helps

Bone scan was negative for stress fracture.  I have bilateral periostitis in the femurs.   I guess its exactly where the tendons attatch in the femur. I haven't talked to the ortho doc but I imagine its just resting until I can run pain free.  But I am wondering if its from biking.  Anyone else have experience with this?

I am running out of time to train properly for this race.  When do I beging to think about not doing this race?

Seems like ice baths are in order too?

As far as bagging the race, no one can answer that as it depends on your goals. Fink says that if you miss more than 7 consecutive days of his program due to sickness or injury you need to reconsider your goals for the race. If you've done IMs before and have PR as a goal, sounds like that will be tough. Your logs for August seemed appropriate, though, so your fitness cant be that far off yet. If you're like me and this is a first, maybe only, IM, doing it for the experience, fitness and discipline, then listen to orders, get healthy and get out there and take what you can from it.

Look at it this way, at least you don't have new hardware and 4 months of total non weight bearing.

Good Luck!

I predict Brother Dan crossing the finish line at around 7pm.

Training is going well for me. I just did IMWI aka IMMOOOO a couple of weeks ago, but am back at it just doing easy recovery swim, bike, run stuff and next week we start the build again then the dreaded taper. My body feels good physically and mentally after WI, and am ready to for another fantastic Ironman.

I am so excited about swimming in the Ocean Laughing.

We will be in town late afternoon on that Wednesday, coming from Madison WI, and hope to meet up for a swim, laughs, food etc. that week also.  My folks are coming to watch me race, since they felt so terrible for missing WI this year.

Safe training everyone

Nicole

Anyone planning on putting a long sleeve jersey or light jacket in their swim to bike gear?  Volunteering last year it was quite cool.  Saw people coming off the bike 6 hours later with long sleeves still going.

Also, any recommendations on headlamp things for running in the dark?  Since my predicted time takes me past sunset, I heard it gets pretty dark in the state park.  Saw a lot of visor clip on lights.  Any luck with these?  Thanks.  Can't believe how close its getting.

I'm going to make the call the day before but last year at B2B I had an Underarmour Cold gear shirt, bike gloves and tights over my tri stuff for the beginning of the bike and took them off at special needs.

I'll be blacked out starting about the first loop of the run so with or without lights won't matter much to me

I'll be happy to get there before midnight.

The year I did finish line last shift at IMFL, I was so cold. I'd suggest bringing an extra layer you can put on if needed. They usually have a place you can store backpack at the finish line.

Thanks for volunteering!

I will take you up on that ride.  My wife and I miss the midwest..  We moved to SC from the Toledo, Ohio area 6 years ago..  My family had moved from that area of Ohio to the Champaign, IL area back in 68 and some of us went back to Ohio in the late 70's.  My Mother had moved back there after my father passed in 07 to be near my other 2 brothers, one as I mentioned near Rockford and the other in Bloomington/Normal, IL.  I miss that farm country up there!.  Well if I have a good experience in Florida and my training continues,  Madision will be my next choice...

It was 70 degrees when I finished last time. I'm usually warm blooded and the guy who is comfortable in short sleeves at 40 degrees or so.

I was FREEZING! after the race. Literally shivering uncontrollably. 70 bloody degrees.

I'm going to have a set of sweats and I'm seriously considering lining them with space blanket material just for this race.

Dry shorts, dry shirt, new socks, walking shoes, sweats with a hood. Have those waiting for you.

(edit) oops, was talking about doing the race and freezing. Yeah, I think I'd have a set of long sleeves and some kind of long pants for standing around at night catching people as well

Anyone planning on putting a long sleeve jersey or light jacket in their swim to bike gear?  Volunteering last year it was quite cool.  Saw people coming off the bike 6 hours later with long sleeves still going.

Depends on weather....last year it was in the 40s on the start of bike and got up only into the 60s.

On the bike I wore:

wool socks and toe covers
leg warmers
arm warmers
vest
Light weight jacket
headband...covers my ears
full finger cycling gloves with a cheap pair of stretchy gloves over

About 30-40 miles I ditched second gloves
about 70 miles in I took off jacket and stuffed it in my pocket
Somewhere later I pushed my arm warmers down

I don't like being cold. I knew if I took off jacket I'd be quite a bit colder so that is why I wore cycling vest under jacket.

Run I took of leg warmers and changed tri shorts and ditched arm warmers. I carried light jacket and put it in my run sn as I ran past. Last half of run I added jacket and cheap stretchy gloves.

I brought this clip on hat light that I used second half as well as a tiny flashlight I used in the State Park and then gave to runners heading in on my second loop. I found one that swiveled so I could adjust it well and bought it on Amazon and it is designed for hunters.

Last year was not typical as far as how cold it was but always better to have something than be cold. Many folks were very cold on the later part of the run.

Bring some socks or slippers to wear to swim start. I think sand was in the 30s last year.
