smart arses.  it's my work phone, it's at&t, i have to pay with a credit card, and at&t is telling me all account numbers are 13 digits and therefore the 12 digits i'm looking at here on my bill is not a legit account code.  gosh.

I can't believe they can't just look it up by name and address.  Just say you don't have your bill in front of you.  When they bring it up via name or SS# or whateves, ask them for the account number?

I worked for a company with an odd policy.  You didn't get paid overtime, but any overtime you worked was converted into PTO...  Well, we were working sick hours on projects for about a year and people were getting mad ammounts of PTO.  We started to complain that we need to get paid for that and the complany balked...

So we all turned in vacation requests taking an entire month off.  By boss had so much, he asked for half a year...  That sort of put thing in perspective and they worked it out.

They just made me full time, so my bank is basically empty.  BOO.  Any time I DID accrue is going to get used up in a couple weeks and I only want 4 days.  dang it.

Just add a 2 to the end of the 12 numbers you have. Or maybe a 7. Either way, it would be the 2nd nice action you do for someone else today. You are accumulating brownie points with the big guy (and its better if they are Colorado brownie points)

my girlfriend is a CPA in a public accounting firm and they have that policy.  she works bajillions of hours january through april, and then takes tons of vacations, late days, 3-day weekends, etc.  so jealous of that.

Here we go. Right thread.

There is a spirited discussion on our internal social media platform about cost saving measures... and the idea of "bunking up" with co-workers on work trips.

Dumbest idea I've ever heard!

Do any of your companies require this?

no...except in one case.  at ppk, when we went to pack expo we bunked up, purely because of the limited availability of hotels during the show, and not as a cost savings.  (pack expo is an enormous trade show for the packaging industry that takes up ALL of mccormick place in chicago)  it was a hotel that had 2 bathrooms per room, so it wasn't THAT big of a deal, and we were so busy during the show that i was rarely in my room except to sleep.

at armstrong, sometimes people would rent a house or condo together because it was much cheaper and for example, during hurricane katrina, again limited availability.

i would find it really awkward to share just to save the company $100.  i'd pay for my own room (and also refuse to travel a whole lot) if my company ever went to a policy like that.

Any legitimate company wouldn't require this.  I always get my own room in the engineering world UNLESS, the rare occasion we are doing field reviews and only get a per-diem, then we may CHOOSE to split the room and pocket the extra cash.

Also, my wife has to bunk up with one of the other girls from her show when they go to Londond...  But that's not a company, but a band.  NOT that they are happy about it - and complain.

We used to do it in the military every time.  You have Colonels sharing rooms at the some schools.

I have done this 3 times at my current company.

1) when we had a course in NYC and we decided it was cooler to stay in a superfly hotel than a small hotel,

2) when 2 of the guys were not on the company dime and were visiting the Grand Canyon and I had a room at Embassy Suites (1 on the couchbed, 1 on one double bed, me on the other double bed).

and 3) when one of my coworkers forgot to book a room at the same time as the NCAA Championships in Phoenix... Doofus.  But I got upgraded to a casita, so we had our own rooms within the same casita which was nice.

I'm in favor of it mostly.  But I understand women would never prefer to do that... You need your space from other ladies...

For conventions/trade shows and stuff, both my current company, and one of my old companies (Harley-Davidson) do this. For standard travel, like sales trips or whatever, they don't.

Never required, but I witness bunking up in my travel experiences with one room used for pizza and one to sleep.  Guessing that is not what your company is going for?

I'm sure they do, but I don't get to participate in trips that are beyond a couple of hours' drive.  The muckity-muck Directors probably do when going to Colorado for EduCause.
