This morning I got in an extra swim workout for the week (pretty proud of that since swimming isn't fun yet) and a 12 mile run. That's 8 workouts on the week. Tonight or in the morning I'll do my maintenance workout by stretching for a bit, spending some time with the foam roller and icing down the final stages of an IT band rehab. I've got a 2 mile recovery run tomorrow and that will close the books on a pretty solid training week. But the temp here is above zero so I'm spoiled.

This is the best thing I've heard all week--extra swim workout! Unlike most, I love swimming!! Great job!

43/400 for the year--1800 yd swim, which felt great! Just a little redemption after Wednesday's swim, where I felt like I had forgotten how to swim.

Wife is going to the opera tonight (and thankfully not dragging me with her!), so I'm planning a trainer ride and yoga. Of course, this is going to be after a wine and cheese reception at our University Museum, so I think it will be good the trainer is stationary!

The BDAS guy is cool! Your B-I-L is talented!

"Not fun yet" may be a little over negative. It's just an unknown. I can't find good info on target pacing (everything says don't worry about pacing at the beginning) so I have no clue if I'm swimming well or not. My form is definitely improving so I can slow down a bit of I need to, but if I just need to keep pushing I can do that too. The amount of questions steals the joy a bit. Any advice on pacing would be greatly appreciated.

Late check in, but some traveling this week kept me busy and not training as much as I would like to!! I am in the UAE, 32ºC, great weather for a run (actually 3/7 for this week), almost as good as baseball in Fla. (Chris), and also just flat (ok, Madrid is not Colorado, but this is perfect!)
- Dave (Logo): 1+ for the 4th square, anythig related to SBR-Beer, or Kona would be just great
- Jennifer: "powered by hops" should be somewhere, even on the sleves - push the plank challenge, I would love to join!
- Scott: hope surgery heals well and you are back to traininig asap.
- Jayfoster: very jealous of your new bike!!!!! can imagine you can´t wait for all that snow to melt away
- Nicole: glad to hear you slept in, I though I was the only one.....
- Snewo: daddy taxi...does that sound familiar? Even though they are 14 and 15, still rely on family-taxi
- Thor: how do you handle being outdors at -17º??? Is there a life at -17º? May be that´s the reason why this group in love with beer
Enjoy the weekend!

I love the drawing, he's very talented. I decided to grab a blank cycling jersey and throw some items on it to see if we can get a layout that meets what everyone wants. I realize that this may be a little busy, I'm just throwing something out to get us talking. Without a doubt fifth's BIL needs to be the center of focus.

I know I keep making suggestions - and I'm sorry to be a P.I.T.A... but I think it would look even more cool if we swapped the front for the back - so fifth's BIL's sketch is on the front with BDAS and Powered by Hops on the back.

Thoughts?

I think pacing is relative and based on how fast/slow YOU are. I would agree with the advice on worrying less about pacing at the beginning and more about form and technique.

If you want to get a sense of your pacing, set yourself a realistic distance and do a time trial in the pool. That way - you can gauge your progress from week to week. Also, if your distance matches the distance of your next race and you run out of gas 2/3 of the way through - then you'll know you are going out to fast. So too will finishing up with a lot of energy left in your tank.

Hope this helps!

Just checking in.... I know I'm supposed to be a good example to the group - but I am having a difficult time these days with sustaining my motivation. Ever since the end of my IM in August of last year, I haven't felt the same fire as I have had in years past. Plus, work these days blows which saps my energy more.

I'm not posting hoping to garner sympathy - just putting it out there as a way to explain my less than perfect participation and hoping to let others know that they aren't the only ones fighting the good fight. Hoping tomorrow I wake up with the switch back on...

The group is doing great and I'm proud to be a part. You guys rock!

It's not a problem to swap stuff like that, the reason I did it that was was in case you opted for a jersey that zips in the front. I don't know how it will look with the zipper through BDAS Dude. Do you have a feel for whether you like long sleeve vs. short sleeve or zipper vs. no zipper?

The more I think about it, the more I think that the pockets are probably bad places for logos. It's probably more sensible to focus on quality not quantity. I'm thinking the "Powered by Hops" on front or back and then something like BDAS man on the other side.

Hey fifth, We really oughta make sure your BIL gets some beer out of this. Maybe bake that into the cost of the shirts?

I will pass along the praise!

I like that last jersey a lot.

If you want to add a beer bottle or two, just have the top half of them above the pockets. Like you have beers in them.

Good morning, beer drinkers! An early rise for me this morning--just can't wait to get to work on my taxes, I guess. Ugh! Last night I put in 30 min on the trainer (#44) and this morning I did my yoga (#45), which completes the week's challenge for me. It is supposed to be near 60F here today, so I'm going to hold off on my long run and go when it is warm and sunny.

The latest itieration of the jersey doesn't have any tri related decals on it, it is exclusively about beer. Can we bring back the sbr logos on the pockets? Also, and perhaps this is a dumb question, but instead of a bike jersey, why not a tri top? Hope everyone has a great start to thier weekends!

Happy Saturday everybody. Sorry for my lack of participation lately. Unfortunately I had to have an impromptu foot surgery yesterday which will have me sidelined from Tri-training for a little bit. Had some nerves removed from my foot and about a 3" scar so no pool or running for awhile. I may try to put some old school pedals on the Tri-bike while I can't get my foot in a bike shoe. I've also got a concept2 rower so may try that as well.

Anyone have any other suggestions or gone through something similar?

Luckily I paid for the active.com insurance when I signed up for my April Tri

Meds will keep me from the beer a bit too, but will also serve as motivation to stop taking the meds haha.

I'm trying to work everyone's wishes into this version. How about now? I'm assuming we could move the layout over to a tri top instead if that's what people want.

Nice trail run this afternoon with the pup (46/400). Happy to be out in the sun and warm. I'm fed up with winter, but got to have the windows open today and finished my taxes, so I'm happy with today's events.

Frickin love where the jersey is going. Shut up and take my money! Lol.

Dave - can't imagine training for and surviving a full IM. But I have to imagine, just like someone who just settled into retirement after working their whole life; it's next to impossible to put THAT much into something and then stop, and try and find that fire again right away. You've climbed the mountain. They don't have a double IM. Probably because you'd have to do quadruple workouts every day for a couple years to finish... Anyway just wanted to say don't get down on yourself if you're having trouble lighting the spark again. Just think though, that season opener is coming up fast. It's no IM but that bike course though the park is hilly and loaded with frost heaves. Think about how much every one of those bumps is going to hurt if you're struggling through it. Or how much you could laugh at every single one if you're flying through on the bike dropping people on the climbs.

I'm at 5/6 including the injury prevention session after today. Had an hour of strength/endurance with the personal trainer this am, then an hour and fifteen of intro hot yoga (84F). Down dog was especially difficult after upper body work before hand but it was great. I did 5 yoga classes in December and the benefits for the body for me were very apparent, for this desk jockey. I need to get back to it once a week - this challenge was the perfect motivator.

Have an hour of spin planned for the morning, including trying clipless for the first time. If I have anything left in the tank after, I'll be on the treadmill.

Go get em everyone - one day left (plus tonight for you night hawks) for the week's challenge!

Oh yeah spent the entire yoga class looking forward to the 22oz Older Viscosity (imp stout I believe) waitin for me! Pouring now

I was supposed to swim yesterday before work, but it was sunny and nearly 70 degrees out. When Mother Nature throws a day like that at you in February it would be simply rude not to take advantage of it. So, I got in a 32 mile ride and will do my swim in the morning on the way home from work. Somehow its easier to justify being inside at 6:30 am when its 30 degrees out. Also- loving all the ideas for the shirts. I have yet to see one I don't like.

Good morning BDAS!! Rest day here for me. I don't need it as much as I did last week, but it is still welcome. It is supposed to be in the high 60s today, so I may not be able to resist the temptation for a nice run.

Is there a challenge yet for the next week? If not, I'd like to propose we all try to up our workouts in our weak sport by getting in one more workout in that sport than we did last week. So, for example, my weakest sport is the run and I only managed to get in two short runs last week. This week, I'm challenging myself to up that to three, even if I have to sacrifice a workout in another sport to do it.

6/6 for the week after my icy run today. Our plowed trail had some melting or drifting in spots that iced over. It made for quite an amusing gait as I tried to avoid icy spot and puddles. I always seem to hit at least one puddle that manages to splash right into the vent in my other shoe. Today was no different.

Weather has me in the range for .25 of ice followed by 2-4 inches of snow. Awesome. I hope it doesn't impact my planned Monday night swim. This would be three weeks in a row where weather impacted my Monday swim workout. Oh well, hopefully it'll be spring soon.
