Gloria - Glad to have you back! Hope your feeling 100% by now.

Well, I took some time to try and figure my training plans out for this coming season. I think Caius is right in that I'll need more than one swim and bike per week (to break the boredom, if not for anything else!) I just can't seem to make a spring full mary work with a 20 week HIM plan which is what I really want to do. Right now I think I'm going to move the full mary to late fall and start that training plan after the HIM in mid august which will be my stretch goal and "A" race for the season. So I think I'm going to do the 20 week winter maintenance plan starting next week, followed by the 20 week HIM plan. With 40 weeks of planned training I won't stress out at all either, if and when I miss training periods due to work, etc..

Now I just need to figure out if I want to spring for the "silver" membership to get full access to the winter maintenance plan.

They are what "Red Wings" eat for dinner!

Huh? There are other sports besides triathlon?  Sorry, not a hockey guy. Maybe if the Leafs would win a game once in a while.

Well, I've heard people mention them, but, if they aren't covered in Triathlete magazine they are not real sports anyway!

Ick.  The "Dead Things."  Just kidding.  They slap us (Preds) around regularly. I give credit to them and all I have to do is look at the scoreboard.  But if we had their payroll and half their talent...

I renewed my bronze yesterday and will focus on swimming in Dec/Jan.  I really don't have to start my 26 week Intermediate Sprint plan until mid-Feb or even March 1, with "A" races in July and early Sept.  So I may continue "coasting" thru Nov and start 8 weeks of swim focus for Dec/Jan.  Rest a bit in early Feb and start the "plan" in late Feb/early March.

This year will be substantially different from last year; cutting out six or so mtn bike races.  Just doing 3 sprint tris and a handfull of 5 and 10ks.  Throw in one half-mary.  Cool!

Not sure I can be a Flames fan yet - they beat the Preds (barely) but then lose to Columbus

For next year, my A race is definitely the Vancouver Marathon.  I hope I can still hang out on this board!  I'm thinking of a July or August sprint triathlon, or if we can time our holidays right, the Long Bridge Swim in Sandpoint, Idaho.  Just checked and it's 1.76 miles!

Supposed to be starting my 20 week winter maintenance program this week but came down with a nasty cold this weekend. Looks like I'll be starting my 19 week winter maintenance program next week....

I think you guys are a jinx, I've now got a sore throat and voice that would make 90 year old smokers envious.  Wink  I'm taking the day off today, and see if I'm up to the swim tomorrow. I'd rather miss a couple of days at this point and recuperate than try to push through it and make things worse.

Yep - missed work today, but not because of my throat.  My wife now has the flu, so I was home looking after the kiddies.

Did get in a short swim - only to find out I'm as slow as I ever was.  The new pool I'm swimming in is not 25M.  I knew it, but tried to convince myself - Nope, you're just getting faster.  Reality check today in a different pool, and still swimming over 2:00/100M.

This sucks!!!  Yell

Hey...I feel like I am back from the land of the dead after that flu. Sorry to hear you guys are sick and/ or getting the dreaded bug. If you haven't yet get your flu shot this stuff sucks !! I have my race season pretty much planned out  for next summer and I am started to get excited for it already! For winter I joined a local club that does a whole lot of outdoors stuff all year but I am really interested in the cross country skiing aspect of it. I may as well be outdoors as stuck inside since winter last about 9 mos of the year lol. I also put some cross country skis on layaway last weekend, almost can't wait to see the white stuff fall ( I said all most ) .. I can wait...till December I think : )

Get better soon everyone !

Gloria - glad you're feeling better:  I missed your comments about your flu, until now.  I got the flu shot last week and I hope it helps because flu shots (or perhaps shots in general) don't seem to agree with me.  Two years ago I actually fainted.  This time I would have fainted if I hadn't been sitting down.

Got some new running shoes - Asics Gel Cumulus - and wore them for the first time yesterday.  They really seem to agree with my feet and are making me excited for running again!

Everyone stay healthy!

Well it's my turn now to have the cold. My nose is running like a faucet! Just when I was getting into a rythm with my running. Oh well.

On the plus side, I've been catching up on some 007 movies on TMN and working on my car which has been fun.

It's dark, gloomy and raining here in Toronto today. I did not want to get up this morning and come to work; it was just too cozy under the blankets.

Hope everyone gets to feeling better!  Got my flu shot yesterday morning.  I am one to pass out for injections too.  I had a documented case of the "real" influenza 4 or 5 years ago.  I don't remember anything for a week.

Hey all - just checking in to see how the group's doing now that we're really into winter (I consider it official as soon as I see a Santa Claus parade).  It was wet a miserable on Saturday, and then snowed a bit on Sunday.  Missed my plan run, but rode the trainer.

Hope everyone is still getting to keep active.  I haven't chosen a plan yet for next year but I'm going to try and follow Jorge's bike plan - if I can ever get myself out of bed.

Starting to feel somewhat human again. Went to the doc last week and got some antibiotics. Had a pretty bad case of bronchitis. Flew out to phoenix for business yesterday and will be here untl wednesday. Went for a run on south mountain. It was pretty rocky and steep, so it was difficult to run, but it felt good to be out running in the warmth again! Lungs are only about 80% still. I'm planning on getting up early and doing it again tomorrow.

Hope everyone is getting back to 100% health!

I'm over my cold, thank goodness but have been off of any sort of training for a week now. Work is super insane and I am working offsite all week so have no access to the gym. I will likely not be able to train at all this week. Yikes!!!

Otherwise, things are okay. Chilly, but okay.

Hi everyone, sounds like a few of us are getting over this creepy stuff. I am slowly getting back to normal after almost 2 weeks. I hope to hit the gym tomorrow, it will be like starting over again lol.

Hope you are all doing well !

Glad to hear that everyone is feeling better.  I can't believe I still haven't got sick.  I've been doing more yoga lately and I would swear that has helped!  Only 28 days until we leave for our vacation - I better not get sick close to departure time!

Gloria - it may hurt a little bit more starting back up, but at least you have a base and you should get back to your previous levels fairly quickly.

I've been staying fairly consistent the last couple of weeks or so, and hope to really get some good use out of the trainer this winter.  Although I will venture outdoors if the weather isn't too crappy.  I'd rather ride outdoors than in - I guess everyone does!

Thanks for the advise. I got to the gym tonight wahoooo, it felt so good to work out even if it wasn't very long. I wasn't  as  whimpy as I thought there is still a base there like you said.  As for the weather...well ...I except to be blanketed in snow any day now lol.  Glad I have the gym membership this winter.

We got our first snowfall last night - and a decent one at that.  I'll be indoors on the treadmill at lunch today!

I managed to sneak in w 30 minute runs this week. What I find after being away from training for almost two weeks is that while loss of fitness was evident, it was minimal. The biggest difference is that 30 minutes on the treadmill just felt long...and borring. I would much rather run outdoors.

On another note, I feel yet another cold coming on. Arggggghhhh!!!

Caius - All you need to do now is market some "carbon fiber aero screws" and you will make a mint!

Actually, great idea on the winter running shoes. I think I would do it on my old shoes, but not the newest pair.
