I am thinking of renting one for Madison since I really have little idea what my pacing will be. Any thoughts? Anything negative that I may be missing? I am going to be renting one of these on race day. With my running injury I have no idea what my pace will be so I figured this would make it easier for my support crew to find me. I was on their beta site watching some of the IMKY athletes yesterday and it seemed to give pretty reliable updates every few minutes. I figured for 23 bucks it's worth a shot. Considering all the other expenses I've racked up for this day this is just a drop in the bucket. If you're wondering, they do have race site pickup available. It is actually going to cost $37.95. I guess I assumed since they have race pick up that they'd have race drop off so the $15 return shipping fee would be credited back as per their fine print I am getting one as well....and they said if you return it that weekend then you do get the $$ credited back. You think Ironman.com is going to get lambasted about the issues yesterday? I tried all day to get on site and could not. Like someone said, over a million dollars collected you would think they could rectify server issues....just saying. Can someone post the link to exactly what you are talking about? I see a $19.95 rental fee so must be missing something. http://www.shop.myathletegps.com/product.sc?productId=2&categoryId=1 It is a little misleading, because the daily rental is $19.95, but then you have to pay a $3.00 handling fee and $15.00 return postage fee. You can pick up the unit at the expo in Madison, but they are not sticking around for us to turn them in after the race. We will have to send it back in the mailer, therefore incurring the extra charges. Had they stuck around, they would have credited the $15.00 and kept the $3.00. You know, marketing and all that! Ha! I just ordered mine....another drop in the bucket! Thanks for the info. Well, if you did it, then I did it! My family will be much more comfortable being able to track me in real time and I won't try to push if I end up going slower than I thought! |

Use it every single race and my wife LOVES IT!!! She forces me to get it every time and says it is worth every penny. In addition, the guy that runs it is great and has always treated me well. |

Well, I talked to the guy on the phone this morning and he said he would be there. I told him when I placed my order that I will pick up the unit at the Expo on either Friday or Saturday. If you contacts me back and says they WON'T be there, I will post it. I actually called him twice to be sure I had the right info. I do know he said that they have received a ton of requests for IMWI, probably due to the meltdown of the IM athleteTracker this weekend, and he said they were setting up at the Expo. |

Yep - since the Gatorade sponsorship gave way to PowerBar for IMWI. But, I wonder why no IMWI official swim if it's been done elsewhere. I suppose the only thing provided was water, Gatorade, and some swim support. The lake should still be open. |

Yep, I'll start a thread and either attach it to the thread, or put it in a Google Doc where anyone can view/update. I have to say I'm a little surprised there was absolutely NO BT tracking for IMLOU yesterday... maybe no one will be interested in tracking us, but at least we'll know some screen names/real names/bib numbers

Well this stinks, I thought the practice swims added a lot to the whole IM experience and hype. Can anyone verify that they did/didn't have swims for IMLOU over the weekend? Ok I do see one swim on the IMLOU schedule. I guess that happened, but it seems hard to believe that there would only be one (or none, in our case). Edited by kalalau 2010-08-30 4:25 PM |

The athletes guide does say there will be no organized swims, but that Monona is a public area so technically you can swim right where we will go into the water. The problem is it is pretty heavily used by boaters including water skiers so I would not go alone. There will be plenty of people acclimating to the water so best bet would be to find a group and go off early in the morning. Our class swims there at 6am W/F because it isn't lighter beforehand, but always have a kayaker with us. |

If trends hold, I'm pretty sure folks here will be grouping up Thurs-Sat. Everyone always wants to swim super early though. There may be such a crowd swimming out there that it's not an issue even later in the morning. |

My guess is you're talking about Old Sauk Pass to Timber Lane......it is one of the easier places for people to view the bike. You can literally drive all the way up Old Sauk Road, park and the action is at the intersection of Timber and Old Sauk Road. If you need better directions PM me. I live less than 2m from there. |

Make sure your friends/family see the Ford Inspirational Mile signup/message center at the expo. They can enter a message for you to see while on the run, somewhere late like mile 18-22. It's a really tough time of the race and I really look forward to seeing my name and message in lights from someone. Even if I know they entered one in advance, it's still gives me a boost. And when I don't get a message, it's always a disappointment because I see everyone else's.
