So I know there are tri checklists out there, and I am going to create one for my first tri on the BT site, but wanted to see if anyone had anything they'd like to add to my list.  Something that you have found useful to have.

I did see that there are race number belts, I am definitely going to get one of those.

I'm a type A personality and making lists is one of my hobbies Wink so I figured that my first tri is in thirteen days I better start preparing my lists.

Thanks!

The race belt saved me time so I agree and highly recommend it. I would also get a set of quick laces. It would have saved me a lot of time in not being able to move my finger due to the cold.

I ignored them know I had a second loop. So this guy about 22 comes up along me about an eighth of a mile after the transition and says hey aren't the Sprint participants supposed to transition now. I said yes but I'm not a Sprint participant. The look on his face was both awful and funny at the same time.

Haha!  Did he keep up with you?  Was he also an Olympic racer?  Gosh, I can't stop laughing! Laughing

No he was doing a sprint and said $hit while slapping on his breaks and making a u-turn. It's one of those things that you feel bad but at the same time it offers a little comic relief.

Back in the pool today. Still very sore and tired from Sunday. I think it being so damp and rainy made it worse on the recovery. I made the right decision and moved down a lane to the one I had been in until recently. I did fine there but there's no way I would have stayed with the other lane today.

Everlong - way to go, it sounds like you adapted well to the race conditions.  Thanks for sharing your advice with us.

Jen - where do you plan to get the race belt?

I've been doing the OWS daily, 1/4mile or more non-stop.  I know I can do this now, but am continuing to work, work, work on the swim.  I found a road that is continuous hills for my bike.  I am doing this again today.  I go 14 miles.  It's great fun going down the hill and a real good workout going up.  But my legs feel great the next day so I feel like I am ready for the bike part of my race and will not burn out my legs.  The hills here are challenging me since I usually run a flatter route at home.  I know this will only make me stronger in the end, but gee I wish I could go faster.  I ran 4 miles right after my swim last night and it was hard but not undoable. Feel like I am ready to get to the race.

Have a great week!

Linda, I got it onlie at Amazon.com.  I was going to go out to Gear West in Long Lake but I decided I didn't want to rely on having to drive out there to get it.  You're doing great with your training.

I had a really hard weekend with working out so yesterday was just weights and today is a complete rest day and I'm having a hard time with it - I'm more just pissed off that I'm taking today off and feeling discouraged.  But I know it's good to have a day of rest, I think I am just starting to get a bit worked up since my first tri is in less than two weeks.

Well, my summer began and so did a stomach flu! All I could do yesterday was 20 mins on the bike and some weights. Couldn't do anything Monday. I am getting ready to go for a run soon and see how it goes. It stinks being sick! I haven't been ill in over a year!

Here's another thing that gets me. I'm not a real small person. I've lost 70 pounds in the last 5 years, but I'm still a good size woman --size 14 or so. Still working on losing, but slowly at this point. I tell people that I've done sprint triathlons and 10K's and they look at me and say "Wow! Could you run the whole thing?" I just wanna say "Yeah, my fat *ss can beat yours too!" but I don't. This happened to me several times before and again yesterday. If someone skinny came along and said the same thing, they wouldn't say that I know. It's just rude and I am tired of it!

Small brick this morning using the bike course that is the Cohasset Sprint Triathlon and an abbreviated version of the run course from that event. 12.41 bike and 2.41 run. I pushed a little harder than I wanted on the bike as I was doing this with a group and my legs are still very fatigued from Sunday. On the upside I'm not very sore. The run I went at my pace and was smarter about it.

Great job on the swimming! It seems(at least to me) that you see the slowest improvement in swimming. I thought I was doing so good until this morning when some guy blew by me and didn't even look like he was trying...

Okay here is a couple of questions for everyone.

1) What made you decide to do a triathlon?

2) What is your athletic background, if any? Marathon runner? cyclist? checkers champion??

My introduction tells you all why I did a triathlon, I however played football, lacrosse and hockey. So that's my athletic background

I hope you feel better. Summer colds are worse than winter colds IMO.

Great job on the weight loss and you're smart to lose it slowly. It stays off when you do it that way and you don't burn out on the starvation diets.

As far as people saying rude stuff I think you have to look at it as controlling the things in your life that you can control. And you are doing that. You're active and enjoying life. You cannot control people's stupid comments or their predetermined opinions based upon first impressions.

I would have fun with it and the next time say would you like to race? And while they stutter follow it up with how much of a head start would you require to make it fair? You can say it in a jovial and yet ball busting tone where they would get the message without being totally pissed off or offended.

This way you're not holding it in and letting resentment build. Negative emotions will effect your training and every other aspect of your life. Don't let others control who you are or let their negative outlook influence you.

I totally agree, let your performance show them. Don't listen to them. I get this all the time, people sizing me up at the beginning of the swim. The pass in the water, and think they are doing great until on the Bike, I pass them almost like they are standing still. I finish, change and have my recovery drink waiting for them to finish. It's FUN...

Thanks. Swimming is all form and I've spent a lot of time working on it. I think everybody is different and gains in running come the slowest to me. I think at some point I should hire a running coach to work on my efficiency much like masters swim has improved that for me in the swim. Keep putting in the time and it will get easier.

/two cents

So my boyfriend at times can sound negative when he is actually trying to be sarcastic and joking.

A perfect example was when I ran my first 5k in May this year.  I came home, he was in bed and I woke him up.  He asked me how it went and I said it was great.  I accomplished my two goals: 1) run the whole thing and, 2) run negative splits.  He asked me how quickly I ran it and I told him I was running at about a 12/mile pace.  His response was something to the effect that when he was in high school, he was running six minute miles.  My response was, well get your lazy out of bed and let's run a mile right now (after I had biked 10 miles to/from the race and ran the 5K).  He pretty much turned over and went back to sleep.

After a very heated argument about this, he told me that he was being sarcastic about it and meant that here he was, being lazy, sleeping when I had biked  and ran.   I think we have finally gotten on the same page but I think a lot of it is his own insecurity and jealousy for knowing he's not able to do what I've been able to accomplish and I think that might be helpful when you hear someone say that.
