Hi all - just found my motivation for the week at the beer store: Aprihops from Dogfish Head. Requirements - Exercise 4x and finish under my calorie budget.

As far as shipping the beer - it won't work at least for me. It's illegal I my state and since I live at a school - I cant use UPS or Fed Ex.

How bout this - let's suggest our favorite beers to each other. I could then go to my huge beer store and see if they have one in stock. Thoughts? Might be a great motivation tool!

A couple items for discussion.  Is Dogfish head out of Colorodo.  If it's the same one I'm thinking of, they make a 120 minute IPA that tastes like pure hoppy malted velvet.  We may have just found a brewery that bridges the great divide between east and west.

Another point to ponder.  How do you name your favorite?  One brewer makes an IPA, another a Pale Ale, a different one has a winter brew, etc. etc...

Last question.  You live on a college?  That sounds awesome.

I don't get out a lot, but I do have a brief list of some of my favorite motivational tools. Not in any order, as there all my favorites depending on pallet.

1. Deschutes Inversion IPA

2. Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA

3. Ninkasi Tricerahops tripple IPA

2.  Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale

3.  Widmere brothers Drifter Pale Ale

4. Widmere Brothers BRRRR Winter Ale

5. Full Sail Wreck the Halls winter Ale

6. Full sail Boardhead Barleywine

Do you ever get down to Ashland OR, to Caldera's Brewery?  I have only been there once and had a fantastic Chocolate Coconut Stout....mmmmm!

March goals:

Lose 10 lbs. - Track food intake; more veggies, more water.

No red on the planned vs. actual - log on every Sat. and Sun. to plan my week.

??I do not get down there very often.  Sounds YUMMY though.

Great goals for March.  10 lbs. is a lot of weight to drop.  Make sure you give yourself enough fuel to continue the good work your doing.  I love the no red goal.  I just missed another bike yesterday helping someone move.

looks like a family day for me. Little guy was up all night. Good news is we got a huge dump of snow so I think I may just wrap the girl up and roll her around in it.

Good News

Ran 16 miles today at a 8:13/mi pace.  Sore at the end, but was able to finish last 2 strong.  Also, I'm maintaining in weight at about 184 +or- a few.  I really haven't been focussed on it, but with the added volume to training, I feel as though if I adjusted intake just a little, I could start dropping a few.

Hope All are well.

Got in a 25 mile easy ride today, rode with a gentleman that is 73 yrs. old and still peddlin'.  Followed up with a 1350 yard swim.  Still so friggin' slow!  Tomorrow is an hour long run on the treadmill.

Hope that is me in 38 years. I am in it for the long haul. Maybe if I make it that far I will finally get to podium.

mindy-

Can you read this and tell me your thoughts.  I swam a 1500yd workout today.  It was supposed to be a 5x50 continuous wu going a little faster each time.  followed by 2x500 ms with 1 being at rpe4 and 2 at rpe 6.  followed by 250 cd.

I swam TI drills for the first 250 practicing breathing by turning at the hip instead of lifting and rotating head.  My first 500, I counted strokes and I'm about a 22-23 stroke per 25 for the first 200, then my form breaks up, and by the 11th 25, I'm at 28-29 strokes.  At this point I decide the cd drills will be put into workout and I practiced more floating on buoy to get hips up, and breathing correctly.  I then finished the 500 swim.  I began the 2nd 500 and broke it down by swimming 2x100 counting strokes, and I kept them at 22-23.  I swam a 1:53, and a 1:51.  My fastest ever is a 1:46 with the old way.  I then swam 12 lengths consecutively, (300) at 1:55, 2:00, and 2:07 per 100.  I then did 200 of cd drills.

I felt that by puting the TI drills in the middle of the first 500, I was able to salvage a workout that was going south.  I only did this after reading your suggestion earlier.  Thanks for the tip.  I feel as though it may be getting smoother, but it still seems so new to me.  I think I'll spend some more time in the book, and read on.

Thanks for any advise in advance.

There is nothing I love more than talking about beer.  Check out my thoughts below:

kevinbe - 2012-03-03 10:20 AM

A couple items for discussion.  Is Dogfish head out of Colorodo.  If it's the same one I'm thinking of, they make a 120 minute IPA that tastes like pure hoppy malted velvet.  We may have just found a brewery that bridges the great divide between east and west.

Dogfish is made in DE - I drove 2 hours out of my way but it was worth every mile.  I would agree - 120 is amazing.  They use more hops in that beer than in any of their other beers COMBINED

Another point to ponder.  How do you name your favorite?  One brewer makes an IPA, another a Pale Ale, a different one has a winter brew, etc. etc...

I agree - tough call.  I know what you your saying in terms of different stles - but there are beers that stand out - no matter the style.  And each person has a different list of favorites.  Here is mine:

Harpoon Chocolate Stout

Harbin Lager

Lagunitas IPA

Aventinus

Schneider Wiesen Edel-Weisse

Weihenstephaner Original

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier

Great Lakes Aloha Ale

Great Lakes Holy Moses White Ale

Founder’ Cherise

Bells Two Hearted Ale

Shorts Beachwheat

Jolly Pumpkin Weizen Bam

Oude Geuze

ScaldisPeche Mel

Kasteel Rouge Cherry Beer

Gulden Draak

Southern Tier Choklat

Last question.  You live on a college?  That sounds awesome.

Unfortunately no - my wife teaching at a boarding school for kids in grades 6-9.

I don't get out a lot, but I do have a brief list of some of my favorite motivational tools. Not in any order, as there all my favorites depending on pallet.

1. Deschutes Inversion IPA

2. Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA - LOVE IT

3. Ninkasi Tricerahops tripple IPA

2.  Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale

3.  Widmere brothers Drifter Pale Ale

4. Widmere Brothers BRRRR Winter Ale

5. Full Sail Wreck the Halls winter Ale - Really good!

6. Full sail Boardhead Barleywine

Damn - this lists proves why we need to figure out a way to ship beers.  I've only had two of your beers on this list!

The 73 year old gives me hope!  However I think you are being too hard on yourself!  Loos it your list - 25 miles ride and 3/4 swim - not too shabby.

Kuddos on the LSD (Long Slow Distance) except 8:13 isn't slow.  Keep it up.  As far as adjusting - it might be tough with your increased distance - but with all the calories you are burning - you probably could drop a pound or two!

Quick email before heading off to bed.  Glad to see that everyone is putting in the work.  I was explaining to my wife that one of the reasons I love the group is because you all motivate me to get the workout in - thanks a ton for that.  And I'm psyched to see people doing so well.

My hip is still bugging me - but the nice therapist that I am seeing told me today that she is seeing improvement in my flexibly.  So, I've got that going for me.  Now - if I could just get the bursitis to go away, I'd be all set.

Really focusing this week on stretching, icing and swimming.  Plan on skipping 1300 (I can't handle any more bad luck) and will try to see if I can get in 1400.

Kevin - I will take your beer list to the store this weekend.  Looking forward to trying some new stuff.  It would be awesome if other people posted what they like if only so I can drool a littleLaughing

Night everyone!

I see your list is twice as big as mine.

well winter is here for sure in Alberta. Brutal out there. Pulling out the tights for today's run. Running through the snow and drifts and rain me thinks I will go by perceived effort as opposed to pace.

I agree, the fact that you CAN do it is what matters! That is the hardest part mentally and physically. Now you just need to work on your speed!

73 yrs old. Sweet! I am hoping it runs in my genes. My father is 69 and he goes to the gym religously a min. 6 days a week!

Night everyone!

Very true on the group training. "Accountability" You feel like you are failing/letting down everyone in the group!

That is pretty hard on 13....my son's hockey team won a playoff game Sunday with the 13th shooter in the shootout! Love 13 now!
