pprice72 - 2013-05-12 5:25 AM Got my tracker delivered from myathletelive.comThey have the best customer service ever!I'll attach a couple of pics so you can see it.

Can you slip the tracker into a pocket already on a belt?  or in a bike jersey pocket?

I think it needs to be in the open to best pick up the signal. I plan to just put it in my race belt (it can slide onto any belt although they supply one), and be done with it

Looks like all 3 weather services (weather.com, accuweather, weatherunderground) are starting to line up their forecasts for next Saturday .. 86/88 winds SSE 10-15 and a 15% chance of rain. I hope those numbers hold up. Now, if we could just get lake temps to cooperate!

Good ride/run yesterday and going out for an OWS this afternoon. Then its time to start gathering gear and staging everything for the trip down to The Woodlands on Wednesday.

Hope everyone has safe travels!

Hey guys,

Joining the team! My name is Steven, bib #2725, 26 years old from Fort Worth, but grew up about 15 min away from the start! Done two HIMs and plenty of sprints, but this is the first full. Stretch goal is to finish while I see the sun, but any finish will be amazing! Super excited to meet any fellow BTers, as most of my training has been solo, so having someone to suffer with through the marathon would be nice Good luck to everyone and hope to meet up at the dinner.

I'm with you on the suffering with others for once part!  That last training ride felt like I was in survival mode not wanting to do something to get myself hurt and unusually lonely (even though all but just a couple were done solo)...I guess due to being so excited to race next weekend.  I was so desperate to be around other people that I hooked onto the back end of a social ride full of people on hybrids going 13 miles an hour for a short while.  Race week couldn't have come soon enough...So beyond mentally ready for it to be here.

Is anyone else that's creating a list of what goes in each transition/special needs bag embarrassed by the length of it?  Doesn't feel like I use that much stuff on my long training days, but I guess there's lots of what-ifs that have to be accounted for...better start packing

Finnisherpix? Worth it or not? My family will be there to take lots of pictures... I think the price the site asks for is too high O_o

I think they're priced well above the equilibrium price.

To all of you that plan to go on at least one ride in the Woodlands after you arrive...

Do you anticipate riding a part of the actual bike course?  Or part of the run course?  If part of the bike course, since I'm not familiar with this area at all, is this area pretty congested with auto traffic?  Are there tons of other riders out there during the week because of the event to where I wouldn't be alone out there?  What's the best time to do this on either Thursday or Friday?  Sorry, that's lots of questions...

I plan to come down on  Thursday early morning to miss the rush hour traffic in Dallas as I head out of town and check in to the race right when I get there to get it out of the way .  The I guess I'll just hang out until my room's ready...maybe go on a ride then.  Going to the banquet Thursday night, practice swim Friday with all 2000 other people seemingly, then just killing time before and after checking bike and gear bags in until family arrives that evening...sounds like just about everyone else.

From my experience at other IMs, you don't need to ride the race course.  If you're looking to get a bike ride in, go out towards one of the more secluded areas.  Everything around town is going to be a blur when you're heading out or coming back in, and the course designers put up flags and cones knowing that you're not going to be in the best mindset to make your own decisions when it comes to turns.

But i would say drive the bike course.  It's a great way to kill time and gives you the same information.

I really can't find any "must-see/do" things in houston.  Seems like it's all food or sports, neither of which really lend themselves towards pre-ironman-ing.

Got on the ol' trainer this morning for my last ride prior to The Woodlands later this week.  Started a warm up in the small ring and after a couple minutes shifted to the big ring....immediate crunching sound.  New chain as of 3 weeks ago probably ruined.  I guess I'll take the positive road on this one and be glad that it happened now rather than Saturday (or Friday on my last ride before turning in my bike).  Hopefully nothing else is wrong that caused it and it was just a freak occurrence.

On a more positive note, it's officially race week!  See you all out there later this week.

When you get to work and realize you forgot your pants....must be race week! Didnt turn around and get them either. This is what makes the whole journey fun.

Could be worse - at IM Louisville 2011 took my bike out for a test spin the day before - no problem. Got through T1 on race day, mounted up, stepped on the gas and my brand new chain parted. The stuff of nightmares. Fortunately, the IM bike folks were located in transition. Grabbed the bike and the chain and they had me back on the road in about ten minutes, although it seemed like hours. Two things learned - I am a big fan of the IM bike service, and I carry a multitool with a chain tool and some quick-links in my toolkit now.

No more nightmares, time to pack up and go. Travel/race safe.

5, 5 effing days......FIVE.....F-I-V-E....

Had probably the worst ride on Saturday morning. Legs felt heavy, Bike flet like it weighed 50lbs, couldn't get comfortable, couldn't find a speed.....ugghh....

Then....Saturday night I got hit with the worst pains in the world. Head, body, legs.....sore throat, drainage, chills, muscle aches.....

Pumped my body full of all sorts of pills. Sunday was no better.

At the doctor this morning. No fever. Got an allegry shot, B-12, amoxicillian 'script (just in case), musinex, and Zyrtec......

Doc said okay to race. No physical activity for a few days, hydrate, and limit outside exposure due to high pollen counts.

TJ:

Where will you be and what are you wearing this year? Only a few days after the race last year did i realize it was you in the grass skirt. I almost want to carry a camera to take a pic of all the people and signs.

Had a great 1.5 hr ride on Friday - couldn't have asked for better.  Then an 8 mile run in the heat on Saturday afternoon - again, no complaints.

Now I have to struggle through taper week.  How much to do/not to do.

I hate tapering.

How are you guys all planning on meeting up during the athlete's dinner? I'm going with my wife and wouldn't mind meeting up.  I will explain to her how each of you made me feel undertrained by posting your monthly volumes.

Also, since everyone is sharing: my non-666 number is #2866.  I will be one of the only people with my name written in sharpie on my bib (it was too late to change it).  Make sure you guys look out for that on the bike when you are all passing me... but I'll see you during the run!

Got rid of my bulky seat bag, used some electrical tape the make my spare more compact for under the seat now wonder if electrical tape and a spare tube are comparable? Anyone know the answer? I plan on unwrapping them, putting them in a baggy then re-wrapping them so it'll be a non issue later, I just want to know if I should use a new tube or the one that I had wrapped.

Water temp is currently 72 (per Outrvial racing's website)...

What are the chances of it jumping 4.1 degrees in 4.5 days?

(legit question....don't know how quickly water can warm up down there)

72 is for May 2nd (according to the ORR website). They say they will do a posting of temp today which is done by the parks dept.

It's a pretty shallow lake, so it get's affected by the atmospheric temperature a lot faster than deeper bodies of water.

Also, for what it's worth, Swim Shops of the Southwest posted that the water temperature for 5/12 was 73 degrees.
