30/31 report card day!!

I am at 14. Going to bag a swim after work. Should be at 20 by the end of the week...hopefully.

How is everyone else doing?

10/15 so far, unless a brick counts as two then it would be 11/15.  I will get my 30 min jog in this afternoon and plan on adding in some strength training to bring my total up!  Guess I have been slacking!

Hey All,

I've been totally MIA the last few days.  Things have just been crazy busy and I hardly know which way is up.  The good news is that I joined our local Tri club and they have a swim every Monday night.  I think it's just what I need to get the confidence back that I'm a better swimmer than I have been thinking.  First swim was tonight and all the people there were just fantastic.  I was the only new person but that's okay.

Thats great that you found a local tri club...it will help you immensely!

If you nailed 20 minutes or more for each, count them as 2.

Either way, good job so far!

California Adventure at Disneyland was fantastic! I am exhausted, my legs and feet are sore but we all had a wonderful time. Can I count 13 hours at D-land as a workout...the kid, 3 has sooo much energy! While climbing the rope course I realized, he and I were the only ones running!  Glad g-ma has the strength and energy to keep up!  He also went on the Tower of Terror, crazy!

So I have a nice 8 hour drive home, gotta see my dad before we head out and my legs ache.  But I am at something like 12/15 and need to get some training in before I go.  The pool at the hotel next to us has lanes, not a 25 meter pool but long enough to do laps. Might just jump the fence and swim there.  Or my other option is to head to the beach and do a run before i go.  Decision decisions...I'll let you know..the fence is only about 6 feet high!

24 hours into my juice fast.

question: is beer juice?

I'd say yes - especially if it's a fruit beer!

Justin - I've struggled with lower back pain myself but better to have it now then right before a race!

Here is what has worked for me 1) Stretching - last year, I started stretching at least 8 hours a month - and it's really kept me from pulling it on a regular basis.  2) Message... For a while my message therapist was on speed dial! 3) Not babying it too much... 3) I found that the more active I was (in terms of being on my feet and resisting the urge to lay down), the faster it healed.  Finally, ice for the first 72 hours and then alternate ice/heat as many times as you can per day!

Good luck!

I personally hate and despise Crossfit.  At best, it requires constant worry to watch form.  At worst, it's almost a guarantee to hurt yourself.  Now, there are good crossfit places out there, who watch form like hawks and will ensure you don't hurt yourself.  There's also a lot of bad crossfit places out there, and those can and do seriously hurt people.  And then there are the crossfit cults of paleo . . .

crossfit can be tough on a body, especially when done with s/b/r. for back pain I would make sure your core gets some work (planks) and a great stretch/exercise is the superman (google p90x superman exercise).

crossfit is serious. my opinion is that it can get you seriously fit, seriously hurt or both. my training partner is a crossfitter and just pulled a muscle reaching for something sitting on his couch. He is in beastly shape but it is tough on a body, especially with tri stuff. too strenous for me, but then again I enjoy fruity beer (no offence to you other chaps).

19 for 31. I am enjoying trainer road workouts on the trainer. It feels good to be seeing power readings (miss this from spin class).

Keep moving forwards safely everyone!

I have a beer holder on my daughters travel stroller!

I think I am a cult member actually... I am crossfiting and have been for a while and really enjoy it. Our gym here has an On-Ramp program, which I am in, and they ease you into all the lifting with dowels. As WELL I am doing Paleo because our friend got us the 'Practical Paleo' book with some really good recipes and information.

Thanks for all the tips on the back though, I am continually getting frustrated as I think about how this is going to affect my training.

15... BUT - I need to put a Lance Armstrong size asterisk by it... A lot of the workouts have been cut short with the goal of avoiding injury...  Personally - getting to 30 is motivating me - but you guys are crushing me in actual workout time.

Don't you mean - After you "crush" the 5K!!!

Alex - I thought of you yesterday... When the temp hit 61 here in Boston, I wondered if I was warmer than my lucky aunt and uncle who share a city with you.  Confident, I signed onto the weather channel only to learn the sad truth - High of 82 in Cape Coral.

Damn you!

After much hemming and hawing, I've decided that the way to deal with my injury prone knees (I am to triathlon what Grady Sizemore is to baseball Frown) is to embrace a less is more philosophy.  So, I've rewritten my yearly goals and have put an emphasis on staying off the IR.

Day 2 of the "Less is more plan" a 17 minute run instead of the usual 45.  Left knee still managed to bug me...  My reward for staying off the IR = a fruitbeer.  Boon Brewery's Kriek... Pretty good.  If you're brave enough to give fruit beers a chance - this would be a good beer to try.

Hate to say but last week at the OUTDOOR pool they informed me, "we're sorry it's so cold but had to take off the cover because the water was way over 80"  Mind you without the cover it still was hot, almost too hot....  Cool

Need I post another photo? lol I couldn't resist.

Well soccer practice went later than I wished and I am pooped!  I am going to slack off tonight and do my run and nike+ in the morning.  I could say, well this was my plan for a race week.  I would be kidding myself and all of you. Truth is,  I'm just plain tired

That being said, I'm off to dream land!  See you all bright and early, have a good one.

Alex - bummer you're so tired. I bet standing out in the sun with all that heat didn't help. Kevin - got you beat by 15 minutes. I'm on the trainer watching biggest loser. Have a great day everyone!

At least you are showing up and continuing the habit. Choices are sitting on your duff and returning to the old David,  going super hard and ending up injured more than healthy or slowing work your way up...less is more! You can still hammer out the swims and bikes I am guessing.
