Extreme Veteran 2098 Alberta | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Originally posted by Qua17 I got my run and swim in before lunch. It was my long run of the week and I tried so hard to go nice and slow. But I couldn't help myself towards the end. As I turned home on the last leg - a song came on that was about 4:15 in length. I started to wonder if I could make it home before the song ended. I knew it was going to be close and so I really pushed it hard. Damn - it felt SO GOOD! And I'm proud to say that I made it with 15 seconds to spare. But this is something I need to stop before I injure myself again. I burned about 600 calories. That's good enough for me to enjoy 3 gin and tonics. Enjoy everyone! 3 gin and tonics? Really? Go to your room without supper! It is July 4th so celebrate with a couple big bottles of beer! Happy 4th to all my american friends! Have a good one! |

We are making the transition to one pay check and I bought my first busweiser in years with the goal of saving some money. However, I can make beer for about 15 bucks a case. Phew. Probably go a local pizza shop we have that has the best beer selection in the city. Great food too! Pizza, calzones and ice cream they make in-house. Good Stuff!!! Had a good 4th with a friend of mine and his family. Came home with over 150 Powerbar Gels. Left overs from a promotional event my friend had at work. Damn I'm going to get tired of Strawberry-Banana! Not sure how long I should use them. They all expired in March. How long would y'all use them? Bill |

Expert 1662 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Got out on a ride today. After taking 2 bikes in to the LBS, I got to ride my road bike for the first time this season. No longer do I suffer on wife's ancient mountain bike. I went 15 miles at a good 16mph pace. Good thing. I had 7 pork ribs to celebrate our nations independence, I was over my callories by 600. I earned 900 with the ride. Bonus. Taking #1 kid to watch the fireworks show this evening. Good Times. |

Bill Just my two cents but I wouldn't put to much weight on the expiration date since it's a gel, is there anything that can turn in it or is it just a potency issue? That said I wouldn't race with them in case they weren't as strong or whatever. I would eat them even 6+ months but then again I will eat just about anything if it's not stapled down. You could always hold a contest to see who can keep the most down! |

Member 37 San Diego, California | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Hello Ladies and Gents, Sorry I've been MIA the last couple of weeks, June was very busy for me at work, racing/training and on a personal life level. I just got through back tracking through the thread and want to congratulate the new dad, everyone that has completed their first tri and to those of you who have completed any race. I'm glad to hear some of you are getting better from injuries and continue to do whatever possible to continue training. To those of you who are interested you can find my race report for my bike race and my HM here: http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid... http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid... After my HM my GF and I drove from Mammoth to Yosemite then San Francisco, Monterrey and back to San Diego. I was glad to be back home and get into the pool again, I signed up for July swim lessons and hope to continue to improve. Even though I was MIA as you can see from my training log I tried to log my workouts, as you can see I got a lot of work to do in the swim department, mainly on the conditioning. I've tried to slow it down but I just can't seem to do it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Happy 4th and Semper Fi! |

Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Another major milestone today on the scale. I started trying to lose weight in late October and as of this morning on the scale I hit 80.6 pounds lost. Now that I broke the 80 pound mark I have my eye set on the 100#. That would put me at 152 which I think may be 8 pounds to little. In all honesty I think I will settle at the 160 mark and only 11.4 more to get there. Once I started using LoseIt in mid/late March it took off. Go team LoseIt! 4/23 for the under calorie challenge but I am going over for the next 3 days to get ready to race. Next week will be tough also since I am heading out of town for a week. I just need to make good choices at the restaurants. Training won't be an issue since I plan to take a week off after my race anyways then start up on my oly plan. Edited by Burd 2013-07-05 9:07 AM |

Make it happen and I will send you a case of Corona. |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Rest day for me today. I helped my uncle pile some wood for a hour and the calories burned was nice but the fact that my back didn't hurt was even better! How is everyone doing on their goals? I'm on pace to get mine but I'm gonna have to get Jiggy with some yaga and do it 2x this weekend to pull it off. Tomorrow I'm hoping to get in a bike ride. I had two rides planned this week but if I feel good I'm going to try to get out there. So far I'm 5/23 on the challenge. |

Veteran 706 Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Rest Day. Needed, badly. Set out to run 5 easy miles yesterday, called it at 2 miles - legs did not want to co-operate. Feeling much better now - with a 10k race tomorrow, should be a fun diversion. Had some friends over, drank some very good beer, ate a bit (a lot) too much, and sooooo much guacamole. Guacamole should be illegal, because something that delicious should have to be smuggled by someone. On a serious note, I'm eyeing a century ride on September 15 - however, it falls right at near-peak for marathon training, and I haven't been spending nearly enough time on the bike, so I know I should skip it - but I really wanted to get a century in this year, and this one seems to be the only one that even remotely fits. Grumble, Grumble. |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open So I went out in the boat with my kid to go drop them off at their friends house across the lake. On my way back - I decided to "Pull a Thor" and row home. I've gotta say - 5 minutes was almost more than I could handle. Later today, I'm gonna squeeze in a bikeride and a little yoga. Nascar is at Daytona tonight and it's one of my favorite races of the year. Any one else watch Nascar? |

Grumble, Grumble. Is the century something you can still sign up for as it gets closer or does it sell out (I have no clue about these things)? Maybe wait til closer then check how you are feeling and just go for it. As long as it doesn't turn into a century long hammerfest you can always take it easy if you start feeling bad. |

Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Well I think I made a mistake.... Went to go pick up my packet today and said what the heck and went to look at the course. OMG the lake we have to swim across is freaking huge! The wind was blowing so there were whitecaps in this stupid lake. I just swam 1200 nonstop this morning per my plan to stay loose so I know I can do well more than the 1/4 mile it is. Just saying when you have to squint to see the people on the other side it is really really intimidating. I just drank an ice cold beer, had a big lunch and am going out to dinner to relax tonight. Guess it won't be to bad once I actually get into the water and just do it. I know I know....Alex it's time for the big girl panties, quit your bellyaching and suck it up |

I am doing a race report later today but I will sum it up. I won 2 awards...5th in my age group and 2nd over 40 for first timers. Got 2 cool beer glasses for it. 1:22:47.8 was my chip time. I actually did my 5k in under 30 minutes which made me smile. My watch time was off since I forgot to stop it at the line. First and foremost I wanted to cross the line standing up which I did and the goal I had in the back of my mind was to break 1:30:00 and I did that to so it was a super successful day for me. The swim was terrifying plain and simple. It was my first open water and I spent nearly half my time doing the backstroke trying to calm down. My x/100 was still close to training so I can't complain. It will be better for the next race. I already have my next race set for Sept 15th. I'M HOOKED!!!! Thank you BDASers you really helped me get this done. Thanks! |
