2k yard swim for this one today....

Very nice!!! I got my swim on, too... but only 1100 meters, mostly drills.

That's great Mila! Me -- Played some hoop last night -- that was scarry -- first time in literally 25 years....... Ran 3 miles this morning. It may kill me, but I'm determined to get he who must not be named but loves cheesecake this summer! Gotta push to do that!

2800 yd swim. Speedwork. FINALLY hit 1:31 on a 100 yd split. Big deal to me...my 100 yd split was 3:05 when I first started tri training a few years ago...

Congrats (I think! ) I remember when you complained about a 700 yard warm up....

Now, be humble about your stellar accomplishment... Wouldn't want to have a problem with your head not getting through the doorframe..... (I know you'll be cool and only gloat to rub it in and make me more askeered about July!) --- ( Which I am VERY askeered about! )

I think you need to go eat lots of CHEESECAKE

I don't think he really needs any encouragement to get more cheesecake.

Hey, did you hear about the 30 day cheesecake challenge, Sal? You eat cheesecake every day for 30 days. You should sign up .

Now I've heard about other recent 30-day challenges...haven't yet heard of the 30-day cheesecake challenge, although with my work schedule recently, that one might be a big flop...

Cashmason - 2008-02-21 9:49 PM Congrats Sal! I am where you were. So maybe there is hope.

There definitely is Cash. Of course, for me, it wasn't without a few embarrassing moments...let's see...like standing up and gasping for air the first time I tried the catch-up drill and the fist drill...uh...overcoming my freak-out issues in open water...luckily that one only took one season...o.k., maybe a season and a half...

Just keep hitting the pool at least twice a week and keep slowly bumping up the yardage...

You forgot French Vanilla ice cream.

How about French Fries, even if they aren't French.

Oh and French's mustard. We took g/f 19 year old niece to Paris. She was bummed that they used Dijon mustard and not her favorite French's mustard on sandwiches.

By the way Cash, You can do it. I was in the same boat as SAL at one point as well. 50 yards non-stop in the pool about KILLED me. I'm better now... I can go 100....

Seriously. Put one arm in front of the other, and you'll get there! Keep it up!

Hey all,

I know we got the February Goal Competition going . . but lets make a last weekend Training Filnale, and see who is King / Or Queen of this Weekend's Training.

Now, I am not insinuating everyone go out and kill themselves this weekend, but just a friendly extra push so we all get closer to our goals by months end. So c'mon lets give one last Good Workout weekend, as there are not many more before we will all be out there racing!!!

That is my problem, I windmill in the water. Just like the Red Cross taught me to swim. One arm in front the other arm by the hip.

Funny the swim school for the kids at the gym, still teaches the kids that same method, while I am trying to do TI drills right next to them.

Hey Cash, keep doing the drills...you'll get the hang of it...

TI teaches zipper. After the 'pull' (your hand 'pulls' back and hits your thigh), you bring your hand up the side of your body as if you were pulling a zipper up the side of your body. You'll find as you do this, and as you're reaching with your opposite arm, that your body will naturally rotate, and as you zip up the side of your body, your arm will form a 'shark fin' above the surface of the water...

TI teaches entry just behind the ear. I like to reach out a little more as my hand enters the water...about a foot in front of the top of my head.

Now the 'pull' I'm still working on...I've heard that you should keep your elbow high, and as you're using your forearm to help with the pull, your hand will be fairly close to your body...almost like you're pushing water past your chest all the way to your thigh...

Don't think I've quite got that one mastered...

Swimmers...please feel free to chime in...

I don't have the pull down quite right either. A swim coach told me to pretend I was swimming in a tube that is only 2 feet wide. I tend to straighten my arm. I need more coaching to get the hang of that one.

I like any and all types of challenges. My health might dictate that I'm not able to do too much but I do know there will be quite a bit of time in the saddle and at least one swim and one run.

My coach has been working with me a lot with this and actually you want to have your hand enter at your wrist. (Practice it using catch-up drill) It creates less drag.

When your in the pull phase, bend your arm to 90 degrees so your palm is facing the back of the pool. We call it "sweep out, sweep in, sweep back" like a stretched S shape underwater. That combined with a high elbow will get you a dolphin like feel in the water.. or so they say!

I took the week off, I think I over extended myself last weekend! Busy times ahead.

Spin class and then 1100 yards in the pool. Guy next to me was putting out a lot of effort and slapping the water with a big slash and breathing like Tarzan.

I just tried to bury my head in the water, and swim. I was trying to swim slowly, and I just kicked his butt and he put out about 3 times the effort I did.

He made lots of waves, so glad I can bilateral breathe.
