Terps421 - 2009-12-11 7:46 AM Are there a lot of jellyfish during this swim?

No jellyfish in that area at that time of year.  I am not knowledgeable enough to say it's never happened.  I can saw though that Eagleman is much much more likely to have jellyfish. :-)

Also, the lottery process requires no funds. You can register for the lottery, and then see if your friends also got picked, before putting up your money.

The bay swim has a long line of boats and kayaks that follow us across the water, they are about as close as they are during a tri.  Lots of people nearby.

Terps421 - 2009-12-10 10:25 AM Does anyone in the group do any type of mental training to prepare for an event?
I just bought a book about mental training for triathlon.

Mental training like what?

Is anyone up for doing the Bay Swim with me?  The lottery is now open at linmark.com.

I don't think that is the correct site.

Mental training...hmm...I guess like visualizing...I don't know since I have not read the book yet. I was curious since I read Selene Yeager's blog last year when she competed at Kona and she did some mental training.

I remember reading some chapters or articles on visualizing but I really can't recall one piece of it. :-)

For those who say 4.4 miles is too far to swim, remember, a 5k seemed unreachable, a 10k seemed unreachable, a half marathon, a marathon, a triathlon, a HIM, an IM.. all unreachable crazy goals.  And how did those turn out?

You've done a 5K!!!????

Grr..  haha, that darn hyphen.  lin-mark.com is what I know it by.  I don't know why they promote the .us name.  Ah yes, that is the reason I am not doing Eagleman, in order to get in the bay swim.  Amazing that 3 races occur in the same area that weekend.  There is also a century ride.  Remember that as you are stuck in traffic on the way back. :-)

Did you get your hotel for EM yet?

I am expecting to be at the Quiet Waters 15k this Sunday, but will take it super slow.  And, I just may wuss out if it is really sleeting/snowing/raining and cold like they are saying.

I went to the doc about the knee today and he thought it seemed ok but I am getting an MRI next week to get a better picture.

I haven't gotten a place for E-Man yet. I have a friend who lives in Denton (still not close) or I may camp at the high school. I have a friend who has an RV that I can borrow.

Then how did Linda figure it out, she's not on facebook. :-)  Maybe Bec has something in her logs.

I sure wish I had Linda's training under my belt for Disney, I have been slacking on running big time.  I hardly run at all.  Disney is going to be a race to just run an enjoy, for sure.

I read it on the Maryland thread today...and I am on facebook too.

Dave, you will be fine for your 1/2.  Just take it easy and enjoy the venue!

Dave,

You have enough long distance experience to make it through the race.

How was everyone's joliday?

I ate WAY too much.

Logs, what are those?

Sorry!  It all happened so fast, and then we were in a world of no internet for a week.  Tricia *did* post it in the MD thread though.  :-)  The big day is Aug. 14...in the middle of IM training.

Ugh.  I didn't think I ate too much, but apparently the 4 days in the car including fast food, candy, and trying-not-to-die dinner of chex mix caught up to me.  Not too bad, but a couple of pounds that will now have to be removed.  I have faith that HIM and IM training will take care of things.

LOL, wow!  What made you pick that date?  2.5 months out won't be too bad, you'll survive it.  2010 is going to be an amazing year for you.  Yes, I don't think you have to worry about the couple of pounds that you recently gained.  IM training will make you feel like you are becoming a machine!  That, I can tell you.

Yep I imagine I will survive both Disney races one way or another.  Just have to be smart about it.

I also ate way too much.  And I was given 5 batches of cookies, of which I am working well on. :-)  The holiday was great times with family.

I wanted outdoors in Montana, which rules out 9 months of the year.  June and July were out due to races and other travel, so I picked the lightest IM training week in August, and it happened to be the only weekend all summer the venue I wanted was available due to a corporate cancellation.  Perfect!  I'll take it.  Honeymoon will probably wait until the IM season is over.

OK, I'll go ahead and admit I'm looking for sympathy here.  Somehow overnight my back pain has progressed from mild soreness due to lots of time in the car and surfing the web for like 3 hours with my laptop on a really crappy couch (presumably) to barely being able to move, including muscle spasms and shooting pain.  It's in the lower back, and I know it is muscle related, not disk or nerve.  I know about the only thing you can do is heat/ice, drugs, and keep moving, but it HURTS!!  I already literally fell to my knees in pain once today in the doorway of my office as I was heading to the bathroom.  I just moved wrong and down I went.  A co-worker gave me 4 advil and a heating pad, that has helped while I'm sitting here, but I'm afraid to get up!!  :-(

Ugh, I am sorry to hear that.  Hang in there.  I found heat to be a huge benefit to that.  I also found that swimming helped loosen my back up, but you have to be the judge of that.  Back problems as so hard to deal with.

I'm guilty of notebook maneuvers causing issues as well.

thanks guys!  my fears were apparently warranted.  As I tried to leave work, a collapsed and couldn't get back up.  It was spasming, so after much debate while i was laying in the hallway, we called 911 and i was carted off in an ambulence.  It contined to spasm in the hospital, so over the course of like 4 hours they drugged me up enough for me to get home.  I can't get out of bed without help and rolling over is a challenge.  I can't even get up to pee by myself!  My back can't support my weight.  So here I am.  J has been an angel, but had to go to work for a few hours, so i'll stay here til he gets back!

Not only that but it's a GREAT way to meet women. :-)

I am definitely in for the Resolution Run.  I have a friend and her daughter coming along too, theoretically.  The snow might change those plans for them but not me.

Man, women sure fall apart once they know they got their man, don't they? :-)

Sorry to hear about the hospital visit.  So what are they saying?

I never used to know what back spasms were or what they felt like.  Now I know, and they are quite painful.  Hard to believe that muscles can just tighten up like that!
