Hope everyone had a great long weekend and got to thank a veteran for their service also. I actually thought I should swim at some time so I might actually hit the pool this week. Only time will tell let me know if you need a little push |

About your swim, I have heard ppl say the buoyancy of the wetsuit and the waves of an OWS leave them slightly "seasick". They take motion sickness pills (non drowsy type, lol). Not sure if this migh be your issue. And I had to laugh about your comment about the kinds of ppl who pass you. One yr, I looked on incredulously as my super fast husband got passed at the last minute in a half marathon by an 80-90? year old lady, tanned and leatherly....wearing a 2 piece string bikini. Lauren Thanks for the tip Lauren. I'm going to try to do a couple of short swims in a lake close by in the next week or two and see what happens. I'm o.k. with the younger/older/larger people passing me. It's the juggler & guy in the kermit the frog costume type that bother me! Have a good week everybody! Art |

Champion 6225 | Subject: RE: Beth and Yanti's Newest Manatees - FULL ^^^ BILL, way to go getting into the pool, even if its inconveinent. AS for me....i was pounding out my summer schedule, what the kids home and camps and rec programs et al. life sure is gonna change for me radically in about 10 days. no more kid-free days....looooong trng sessions.....time to myself. but for the first time in a long time, im acutally looking forward to tapering back a little....not that im gonna go 'loosey goosey' mind you. gonna make the most of the time that i do have available to train, but i also scheduled some down time as well (is that an oximoron to schedule down time??? LOL) i guess for me, i tend to be driven/focused that i NEED to schedule down time or i end up not 'giving' it to myself. so three solid weeks of downtime after the MS150 and then another three weeks of downtime after my Sprint Tri in August. do some things 'just for fun': head out on a kayak a few times, easy rides/runs on my favorite trails. swim in the lake w the kids when were out on our boat. even some do nothin' days. that kinda of stuff. ahhhh. though im gonna hit HARD the end of June through the first week of August, when my kids have camp scheduled, and will be gone most of the day. SPRINT TRI/A RACE AUGUST 10th. whats good is that i figured out what i needed to do week to week trng-wise, made some revisions to the BT plan that i have been using, adding some things in (a speedwork plan from Runners World) and making some adjustments to the times/distances (ie tapering the bike volume....) everything fell into place....its exciting. dont you just LOVE when a plan comes together?? now i can rest/relax knowing thats 'done', moving forward, knowing what the plan 'is' i can go about my business this summer, trng well AND/BUT enjoying life! it can be done..... balance. you gotta love it. Master 3479 Utah | Subject: RE: Beth and Yanti's Newest Manatees - FULL Wow, Stacie! Maybe you should plan MY summer for me! Nice job on taking everything into account, an achieving balance in the process. My youngest is out of school for 3 weeks starting right now, then after that my oldest will be out for the summer while the younger one goes back for three weeks. Ugh. There will only be 3 weeks this summer when they are both out of school, then the younger one goes back to school for the new school year. Gotta love year-round school calendars mixed with another school with a normal, traditional calendar. Hope that didn't confuse you too much! (Heck, I'm confused, how could you guys NOT be???)

Master 1332 Vista, CA | Subject: RE: Beth and Yanti's Newest Manatees - FULL Nice job at the pool, Bill. Get a swim bag and always have it with you, kind of like an appendage with all your stuff. I have a desginated spot in my garage for swim stuff, bike stuff, etc. and then when I'm in a hurry I just grab and go. Like now, gotta go lift some and then swimmy for me, too!
Stacie -- Exactly how many plates can you spin on a stick? Niiiice. My kiddo isn't out of school until 6/18 and then, who knows? He's 14 so will want to sleep most of the morning while I do my workouts. I'm not sure how much hang out time with Mom he'll want to do anyway...Unless of course I'm buying food. Have a great Wed. -- I "get" to visit the dentist later --- cracked toothy. Ugh. Think pain-free thoughts. |

makes perfect sense, AMY. though i had to read it through twice. LOL that must be hard to juggle different schedules - though it reminds me of the days that i was cyberschooling my oldest son and my middle son was in regular public school and my youngest was in preschool. three kids. three different schools. all on different schedules. it can be challenging....but sounds like your handling it masterfully i love having plan, then i can relax. perhaps an oximoron again...but its what works for me. ONWARD! stacieb |

TinkerBeth 23096 Liverpool, New York | Subject: RE: Beth and Yanti's Newest Manatees - FULL From my blog - cuz I'm lazy efficient like that i saw the ortho about the ankle - turns out i have a fracture in the the distal tibia, i will be wearing an aircast to stabilize the ankle and come back to see him in a month - he said casting it or a walking boot was overkill, but he wants me to wear this so i don't accidently twist it and completely break it (which would require surgery) - (hey, so who told him i was a klutz? ) absolutely no running, swimming is fine, i can do spinning classes if i don't do any of the out of the saddle sets and the elliptical if i don't put the tension too high - both the spin class and elliptical are dependent on no pain - guiding rule, if i feel pain, don't do it - makes sense. he told me to plan on it being at least 3 months before i could really run - looks like the Philly marathon is out - i can probably do the 1/2 mary distance looking at the positives - in the grand scheme of things, a fracture is better than a severe tear requiring surgical intervention. Master 1420 Victoria, BC | Subject: RE: Beth and Yanti's Newest Manatees - FULL Beth I'm SO sorry to hear of your injury! That sucks ... but in the grand scheme - 3 months out of your whole life, not so bad, really. ;-) Heal fast! Sending you distance healing light and angels. And I just want to say - I LOVE the dentist. I really do. I wish my plan paid for me to go for a cleaning more than every 6 months ... I'd go every 6 weeks if they'd let me. |

Veteran 351 Thibodaux | Subject: RE: Beth and Yanti's Newest Manatees - FULL Beth, I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. Just take it easy and let it heal. I've experienced several stress fractures and while it's no fun, there is running life afterwards if you take proper care and let it heal properly. Just really enjoy your swimming and spinning classes in the meantime. Maybe you could do some non weight bearing work in the gym like quad extensions & hamstring curls in addition to upper body work & core exercises if your MD oks it. It's good to maintain as much lower body strength as you can. Good luck & take it easy! |

I didn't get hurt because I fell while standing still!!!! I stopped to chat with a boy who just graduated from high school - he is a distance runner and was at my first 5K. I unclipped and visited for a bit then thought I better get going since my dd was waiting at the school. I clipped my left foot in and then he asked about the triathlon dates, etc. I am not sure exactly what happened but I got my weight too far to the left and.....whoa.....crash! Over I went! He was so worried, helped me up and we both had a good laugh! I told him I was glad it happened with just him and not in a huge crowd and now I am truly a "cyclist" since I have been told time and again that "everyone falls once with clipless pedals"! So now I can put it behind me and move forward with training! LOL Beth - so sorry to hear about your injury! Rats! busy time here...back to the corrals again today! |
