Artemis - 2010-04-06 3:13 PM Sorry I haven't checked in or come up with goals.  I was gone over the weekend, but managed to run a 5k.  Got sick with food poisoning last night, so I missed out on my bike class last night.  Not sure when I'm going to be able to get back into it.  Sorry team!

Hope you get better Jenn

pdbman - 2010-04-06 12:18 PM Crazy night at the pool last night.  Some lady was "teaching" some kids to swim in the laps lane. Basically taking up space holding on to kick boards. "Patience. Open plunge closes soon and it will be just lap swimmers." Then I look at the water and its cloudy. What's up with that?  Jump in and the water feels a little cooler but I brush it off to me being cold because of the snow storm. I start swimming and get about a third of the way when I hit this wall of warm water. That's strange. I guess they were putting fresh water into the pool and the way the "current" is in the pool, it creates a wall of warm water just before you get to the area where the water is coming in. Not too bad going from cold to warm but if I wasn't paying attention it would take my breath away when I would go from the warm water to the sudden cold. Plus for the first ten minutes until they cleared the pool I had to actually change lanes back and forth as people would keep drifting around. Some life guards are pretty good at keeping the lanes clear for lap swimmers, others are just too timid to say anything.

Paul you still don't know what makes the water warm???

It took him a while but he learned

This morning I hit a warm spot and all I thought about was Paul - I spit the water out 10 times after that lap !!!!

LOL!  My pool was actually really cold the other night.  But all I could think the whole time was about this post and "I REALLY hope I don't hit a warm spot!"

Ok, I'm feeling too lazy to reply to things not on this page. . . Hopefully I didn't miss anything too important!

Up for today:  either a tempo run or some bike intervals on the trainer.  Most likely the trainer, though, since I have dinner plans tonight and probably won't get home till late.  Don't want to run outside if it's dark!!

Hmmmmmm.  Kids in the pool and you're swimming through walls of cloudy warm water??? Blechhh! Frown

That is what I was thinking all along

Me three!

What I failed to mention is that there was also the occasional blade of grass floating in the water.  My assumption is, since we had nice weather before the storm rolled in yesterday afternoon, was that they has the sliding glass doors open earlier in the day and people were going in/out bringing grass, dirt, etc in on their feet.  I really don't think the warmth generated by the kids, however they were generating it, could have produced enough heat to warm 3/4 of the pool.  My other thought was, whatever is making the water cloudy couldn't be any worse than what I would encounter in an OWS, plus the pool water is treated with an ultraviolet treating system and the usual chemicals.
There.  I am now done justifying my actions.

Paul - whatever works for you - you were swimming through urine - justify it how you want - LOL (j/k)

Sounds like a nice pool.

I swam at a Y in Nashville once that was awesome - sky lights and big windows - it was like you were outside!  But no urine - LOL  alright dropping it right there - LOL!

Yeah, its a nice place.  They have two indoor pools. One is the recreational pool with a waterslide and play area for the kids, a walking exercise area with a current and a lane for lap swimming.  There is a competition pool with the diving boards, etc and more lap swimming lanes.  This is used by the high school and community swim teams and water aerobics so its not always open to the public. Then they have an olympic size pool outside, another pool for platform diving, and two more recreational pools. Not to mention the weight lifting, basketball, and other misc classes and things they have. Our fee for our family is less than $21 a month. Can't beat that, unless you're overly concerned about urine in the pool.

ummmm wow! Sounds like a great place!

rnihill - 2010-04-06 9:12 PM Got a run in tonight on the Y track and then got my swim in.  I had fun racing the guy I shared a lane with.  He looked not too slow from outside the pool so I'm pretty psyched!

Your swim sounds better then mine! I had to share a lane with one of the MANY crabby old men we have at our pool. He refused to acknowledge me in the lane so I had to circle swim and every time I would try to pass him he would speed up or move to the middle of the lane and not let me pass, we would get to the wall at the same time and he would not let me pass. I was getting really pizzed seeing that I only had a 500 to swim and I was in a hurry, finally got him to stop long enough to ask to pick sides and that I would be only 10 min tops....he let me know he has been swimming for over 50 yrs and he ONLY circle swims, it would be to difficult to just pick a side,  So circle on lady! A_HOLE! I got out out and the mom/daughter that were in the lane next to me said they were done and I could have their lane....

No morning workout today.  Heading to the Y at lunch for a long swim.  I'm just planning to swim as long as I can... maybe an hour.  Temps are supposed to hit 90 here to day... NICE!

I'm coaching my 10-y-o daughter's first softball game tonight.  She woke up and said she's feeling very nervous and her stomach hurt.  Sounds like how I feel before every race.  I didn't want to tell her that, since it's my first game as a coach, I'm just as nervous as she is.  Can't wait!

hope it was a good one!
