I had a great swim this morning.  I feel like I'm improving each time.  I ordered some zoomers and pads to use during some of my drills.  I got a great deal on a wetsuit today.  I ordered a new Blue Seventy Axis for half price, $275.

Tripopo - 2012-01-14 12:08 PM Hey Manatees thanks for the good will! Finished the half at 2:12 and really enjoyed the course, except the overpass at mile 8 not a fun surprise haha. Race report coming but going to enjoy delicious carbs in liquid and food forms. Happy training all!

Nice job!

AAAAARGH

I'm drowning in sick parents, malfeasant doctors, incompetent staff, and ... not in a pool or ocean, which is terribly disappointing.

Salty! Anybody! Everybody! Hold down the fort. I'm hoping to resurface in a day or two.

Hope y'all had a good weekend!

Awesome job Kirk on your race!!!!  Hope everything went well for you Ann!

Just got back from work and will be taking a spinning class this evening.  Better get there an hour early, LOL.

Sooo, I went to the doctor last week about my asthma issues. I told him my history with allergies and asthma.  He listened to my lungs and said he heard crackles which led him to believe I might have bronchitis?! WTH?  He put me on an antibiotic and said if that didn't help, to see him again and we would take the next step with my respiratory issue.  I was a little disappointed as I was hoping to receive maintenance asthma meds to get me back on track.  Well, it's been a week on ATBs and I'm still pretty much the same, asthma at night, and asthma during exercise...boo.  My rescue inhaler helps but not something I want to take all the time.  I understand wanting to take certain steps before you prescribe certain treatments, but geesh, I just want to get better.

Enough of my whining, I hope everyone is doing well.  Adrienne, got to tell ya girl....I love your new avatar pic.

Enough with the Manateefections, I say! I hope you feel better soon.

Please tell me you didn't take something like Levaquin or Cipro. If so ... there are some REALLY important things to keep in mind.

Hey all -- First, sorry the Dr. visit wasn't what you were hoping for.   And, "Salty" sorry you're not up to snuff. Careful, that Dayquil stuff always makes me feel really weird.

Don't worry about us, Yanti -- take care of what you have to and we'll be here when you return. {{{hugs}}}

I have a back down week after 2 weeks of HIM training and am looking forward to it. Seems kinda like a quiet day around here. Got off the easy hour trainer ride and got my sweat on, so now just stuff around the house.

I know, I know, truth be told you guys might be better off without me on occasion ... but you know how I like to worry and how I hate to miss the Manatee Partee!

Enjoy your back-down week. Those are sometimes the hardest, though!

Anyone heard how Ann got on with her race?

Quick update from my end (so to speak.)

Loved shopping for the lube. It took ages. Boots the chemist have really moved on in recent times. They even had one that gets warmer when you blow on it. (i had to read that bit twice). In the end i opted for Yanti's suggestion based on her obviously superior knowledge on the subject. Wasn't sure how much to put on so followed the more is better option as recommended by Lynn or hollz, cant remember which but i guess they too have plenty of experience in this field!!! Wonder if they also use it for running??? My bad.

Anyway..... all good, chafing gone. One more question then i'll pretend not to think about it again. Does it work on nipples? Went for my run today with my new, yes new, heart rate monitor and after i had finished, my left nip was proper sore, but only the left one which the monitor was sat under. Is it simply that the HRM was pushing my moob up causing my sensitive bit to rub worse, or is that irrelevent and i should just put a sticking plaster on it and carry on. Of course i would have to shave my chest in that area which would make life a little more interesting/ embarrassing.

Finally, did my longest ever bike yesterday and run today. Apparently i now only have to chant my new mantra of 'I love swimming' and all will improve in that area according to my new positive attitude coach( AKA Hollz). Thanks Hollz, i look forward to installation of my new armpit blow holes.

Heh...lube. Glad to see you got some. I'd suggest it for the nips as well. Maybe save the "warming" lube for the rest days or post run also, tighter fitting shirts, tech fabric and "plasters" work as well.

Hey all, hope everyone had a WONDERFUL weekend! Congrats to Kirk and Ann on your respective races. My back has decided to flair up, so instead of training, I have been spending time at the Chiropractor/Acupuncturist/massage Therapist. Hoping to get things in good working order by Sunday so I can start my HIM training on time. Sounds like Yanti is nice and busy, maybe we should throw her a Poptart

Kirk and Anne: AWESOME JOB ON YOUR RUNS!!! Yes, I did mean to yell that...you both are inspirations. Regardless of finishing times, placing, whatever...doing long run race distances is an amazing, out-of-my-league thing to me (at this time...)

Allen: Good luck with the chafing issues---I've heard that getting away from training in cotton is a step in the right direction--I guess the manufactured material (spandex, etc.) is much kinder to skin.

Laurie: Good luck with your back--I swear back pain is the WORST THING EVER.

Yanti--hang in there, you know the manatees are here for you!

As for me--I did a 25 mile bike followed by a 3/4 mile run---basically 2 hours...yesterday. I t felt great, with no residual pain today (always a good thing.). Today was my rest day, but as I have few actual FULL days off from work and school left, I NEEDED to go birdwatching (another passion I have). Clint and I hightailed it about 75 miles out of Sacramento to Willows at the Sacramento Wildlife Refuge--There were a good amount of birds there--I got to see a few bald eagles (always cool), and tons of ducks and other birds of prey. We also did their wetland walking tour (the rest is a 6 mile car tour)--so we walked for about 40 minutes. On our way home we stopped by one of the local Indian Casinos, where we lost about $30...Thankfully, Clint won $80 in blackjack, but it didn't cover the last $30 we had spentFrown. It was a nice break though.

Tomorrow I have a workout (I think its a spin bike workout--something about using only one leg for power???), but after that we're hitting the nearby movie theater--Tuesdays are $5 movie day! We're planning on 3 movies....Yeah, we ARE party animals on our vacation! Undecided

Yes, trying something new...running faster!!!

I can't see me doing that run/walk thing again unless it's in a full IM and then only walking aid stations. It just wasn't for me. It did make for a faster recovery though.

Oh man!  How frustrating!  I hope that this gets resolved quickly.  Don't doctors understand that we need to train to not go bonkers?

Thanks for all the well wishes y'all rock!

Had planned to start my HIM training today but still a bit chafed so will see how it goes on the bike today, was going to stretch a 12 week plan to a 14 so I can delay if I need to.  I'm still enjoying the accomplishment so I want to get that positive energy right into the HIM training to get me into the groove.

How long is recommended for running shoes?  I've been wearing the pair I ave since August and by the end of the race they were feeling a bit thin, it felt like I could feel every crack in the road or is that just usual foot soreness during a race?
