Does anyone think it will be harmful to do a sprint tri on 7/21?   I have one that has become a tradition for me in my hometown but it is only a week before IMLP.

I am sure that you will get a variety of answers to this one, but I say "just do it". Focus on your gear, a controlled effort, your clothing that you would wear for LP and your transitions. I would not go that hard though.

OK, totals. I missed a run, but I have a note from the doctor. Wound up taking my son to the doctor and then straight to the hospital on Monday. He's OK, but talk about sitting and waiting!

I did finally break 10k yards for swimming 3x a week.

Glad to hear your son's okay!  You've had a fun month or so (weren't you sick?).

Thanks. Yes, it was a pretty eventful month. Oldest has had some weird infection that turned into an abscess. Seriously disgusting. Youngest and I both had the flu.

What's funny is according to my coach I'm pretty much dead on track with training. except I need to get some work done on my swim form. Given level of conditioning and volume I should be faster than 2:25/100m. Another problem to solve.

Oh ... and there's this. I'm growing my mustache (again) ... this time, into an homage to Salvadore Dali. Seriously. Trust me, I can make it work.

Because it's been 3 weeks since my last swim, I went into the pool last night with more 'stache than I had been dealing with. I was washing the wax out prior to getting in the pool, but decided to go in well waxed last night to see how it would hold up. I still had some hold left when I got out after 1:15, but not enough. This is a long way of saying that I'll be adding "waxing the 'stache" to my T1 checklist.

It's like the Clydesdale category only with more awesome.

Glad you found the pool again after three weeks. I am going to try to find it again as well. Been real dry for me for several weeks. Might need your help. If you work the statche until LP, it should be pretty easy to pick you out of the crowd.

Bad Training Days:  I'm sure we all have them, but sometimes I just can't figure out what the root cause is when they do happen.  Yesterday I had a weak bike with low power numbers.  Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, just a weak day.  This week is my 3rd week in this block, so maybe its the wear and tear of the first two weeks catching up to me.  I had my long ride (3:18) and T run (40:00) on Saturday, then a short ride (1:30) and long run (1:25) on Sunday, then a swim Monday with core workout.  My Tuesday ride was two intervals (15:00 each) all out and I was off by 40 average watts each from the previous month.  Yet, today I had a great swim, cutting a ton of time out of my 400TT and 200TT.  Maybe it was the beer and pizza I didn't have....

Feeling pretty spent today.  Was feeling good yesterday until I woke up today.

Tough week so far on the legs and it's not going to get easier!

Sun: half marathon
Tues: 1.5 hill repeat and high cadence work and 3 mile run
Wed: 11 mile interval run

Feeling a bit tired and wishing I had a roller at work!!

So quiet here. Starting to stress about Boston and doing a marathon on low mileage. Also was stressing about not making much progress in the pool speed-wise, so swallowed my pride and went to Masters swim last night for the first time. Posted about it in tri-talk, it was a great experience. Shared the lane with a guy who just got back from doing Escape from Alcatraz and had done LP last year.

20 miler on tap for tomorrow and it's supposed to snow/sleet/rain. Every $%@& Saturday I have a long run, like clockwork. I've already done an 18 miler and a 20 miler on the treadmill this winter, it's utterly miserable.

The gym is at least 70 degrees, so doubly miserable. I had to stop twice to refill my 22oz water bottle. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person at that gym ever to eat Gu on the treadmill.

Question for the IMLP vets out there.   I did IMCDA in 2011.  They had the athlete dinner on Friday and another lunch served at the awards ceremony on Monday.   Is that how to do it LP also or is there just and awards ceremony and no food on Monday?

I kind of love the treadmill during March madness time.  I can run for hours, watching game after game after game.....   this weekend I should ride, but I may spend 5 hours running instead.  Yell

so I completely screwed up.  I thought I had a reservation, but I don't.  Have been searching everywhere to find a room, no luck.  If anyone hears of something, or knows anyone that cancels, or has extra room, please let me know.

No worries. Things will open up as we move closer. Things change for folks and there will be opportunities.

Agreed with basketball on the TV; so easy to watch.  And I have the occasional gu as well...

That's pretty hardcore, Brian. I think I'd have the men in white coats following me after 18-20 miles on a treadmill. There is NOTHING I could watch that would make that less torturous. ........... Sorry spacing issues...... Fingers crossed, I'm hoping for an outdoor ride this weekend. I am a bit of a pansy, so this New England weather is tough to deal with, but I felt inspired to arrange the ride during a warm day during the week. I'm pretty excited to get off the trainer if only for a quickie.

I can't catch a break. Sleeting all day here. 20 miles at 8:50 pace. On the treadmill. Felt pretty easy, actually did the last mile at 8:30 and could have kept going. One more week until taper.

Nice TM run, Brian. I hate the TM ... no way I could stay on that long.

Had a pretty good first week back from my Giardia induced break. Missed a run and a swim, but I'm please to have returned to active training.

Swim: 2 hours
Bike: 4.5 hours
Run: 3 hours
Total: 9.5

Heading out for 15 on the road (running) in a bit ... legs are feeling yesterday's ride/run, so they'll be easy miles.

A friend of mine just got a cancellation (she was on a waiting list) at Art Deviln's a week or so ago.  She gave up her room at the Best Western.  Not sure if they had a waiting list or if it might still be available.  Good luck!

Brian, killer TM workout!  That takes dedication I'm not sure I have.  I've done 16k on it before, but I think that was my limit.

I just got home from Curacao last night.  It was so nice to train outside and to have fishies to watch while I swam.

This week's totals:

Swim - 4h

Bike - 12h (my coach took full advantage of me being somewhere warm!)

Run - 3h20m

Strength - 3h

Big week for me!

Thanks all for the kind words. One more week of long runs and then taper. Bib numbers were posted this past week, and the race is exactly 4 weeks from tomorrow. I am starting to feel good and getting excited to run this race. I just need to keep doing the piriformis stretches now that I got a twinge. My old nemesis, fades but comes back to say hello once I get over 40mpw.

Not a good week for cycling, but a great week for running and swimming. Middle of March and 29k yards in the pool, I thought it would have been impossible. I'll try and bang out some more time on the trainer later, but with the kids and all it might not happen. Coach keeps telling me not to worry, but having rode LP last year, I am!
