228 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open I had the day off so I decided to do a long ride. I was thinking 30-40 mi. 65 miles, a lot more hills than I had bargained for, and one very good cherry turnover later my quads were smoked. I'm kind of bummed, my Achilles has been aching for a while, but Tuesday I started a run and it was so painful I stopped after a 1/4 mile. I also decided to take a couple weeks off from running to let it heal. Of course since then I've REALLY been wanting to run. |

Member 3146 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Sorry to hear about your Achilles Riles. Injuries suck. Short 30’ run this morning. That is all I have today, because tomorrow is a race sim—2hr bike followed by 45’ run with a transition practice between. |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open So as it turns out, I was able to get the time off for IMLP though I have not been able to train for it. Face palm. I even got a full week off after the race too. I was going to start it, swim and do a loop of the bike course but I just haven’t been able to get in a pool so I will go and support my sis in law and her cousin. I’d love to volunteer and maybe do finish line medals and give them their medals but hubby wants me to hang with him (which makes sense). Haha. The other two tris I was looking at later this summer I have to work for as well so I am going to hunt for one when I actually have time off! |

Member 3146 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Killer race simulation workout this morning. 31 mile bike ride followed by a 45’ run with transition practice between. It was great! I rode hard and strong, whipped through transition like no one’s business and then held on through the run (my run mo in races!). Nutrition was on point. Hydration was a little off on the run, but I think that was mainly a function of no aid stations (i.e., having to self support). |

Member 3146 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Sorry! I forgot to answer this earlier—no more oxygen in the brain earlier! Dad's first surgery went well and he seems to be healing up well. He will have to have another in about 10 days time to set the bones with pins and plates. Megan? Prince Harry's wife? I liked her when she was on suits, but I don't really follow British royalty. |

61 Shakopee, Minnesota | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Tri 2 within 2 weeks done. Olympic distance at Life Time Minneapolis Tri. Swam faster by 1 second per 100yd, biked faster by 1.4mph, and ran faster by 31 seconds per mile. It was a good day, and I knew it the whole way. I kinda can't wait to wrap up marathon training in October and get back into the Tri training for next summer. Finished 138 out of 541 and in AG Men 40-44 was 13 of 43. |

Regular 1779 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Hi Guys, I'm currently in a 'non structured training' part of the year. There is 6 weeks between the recently completed Wellington HM, and the start of my 15 week training plan for my next HM in November. Last week I had a dew days off for post HM recovery, an easy run and a 'longish' 10km run. I also brought the single speed out to play on the weekend, doing an hour ride along the waterfront. Where I learned that the saddle on the commuter is fine for a 15-20 min ride to or from work, but leaves something to be desired after an hour. Haha. This week just gone, I was away for a couple of days for work, and unfortunately picked up a bit of a cold from the little man. But still got 4 runs (2 easy, 1 fast finish, 1 long) and a couple of rides on my new toy. Yes, after asking opinions about spin bikes, we pulled the trigger and picked one up on the weekend. It's only 2 rides in, so very early days. But looks good. It is very, very quiet compared to my trainer, so no issues using it when the little man is asleep, Mrs Bullfrog intends to use it too, which she wouldn't do on my bike on a trainer. And we quite cheap... So hopefully it goes well. I see a lot of evenings spent in that saddle over the next few months. It's also reasonably adjustable, so I'm planning to macgyver a pair of aero bars on to get as close to my bikes position as possible. |

Regular 1779 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Rpaulson, congrats on your 2nd Oly. great improvements all around. Avatrix, Thats disappointing that you've ended up with the time off, but unable to compete. Maybe next year! Have fun as a spectator/supporter anyway. Gretchen, Banging out consistent workouts as always. And good news that your Dads surgery went well. Riles, sorry to hear your Achilles is playing up. I 2nd going to see a PT, or Dr. Even if the advice is just wait a couple of weeks and let it heal, getting a professional opinion can only help things. Everyone else, have a good week, and train hard. |

Member 3146 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open After a long day working to bury electrical conduit in my yard yesterday, this morning’s ride was a complete disaster. I was struggling to hold 50w lower than what my coach asked for. Eventually, 10’ into the second 20’ set, I called it a day, figuring it probably wasn’t doing me the good he wanted anyway. Was supposed to do a 30’ run too, but I’ll push that until this evening after I give the legs a little rest. |

61 Shakopee, Minnesota | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Originally posted by bulfrog Rpaulson, congrats on your 2nd Oly. great improvements all around. Thank you! But I do have to say there were a few key factors in this race leading to improvements. It wasn't that I gained that much more ability in only two weeks. 1. Experience. Knowing what an Olympic tri feels like, I had more confidence in this 2nd one. 2. Weather. The first tri was warmer, and full sun all race, with little shade on the course. The run was really difficult. The 2nd one was still warm, but not as warm. Also more clouds, which really helped. And a lot of the bike and run was shaded anyway. 3. Course. The 2nd tri had a very flat and fast bike (other than dodging Minnesota-winter potholes). And the run was very very flat and fast. Regardless, I'll take the improvements. Now, if I can race both of these same races in 2020 and improve my times, that's progress! Apples to apples comparison.... Need to get a trainer for the winter, and work on swim stroke efficiency and strength. Also, gotta keep working on my New Years Resolution. I heard on a podcast (about studying stomach contents of cadavers) that most people eat a maximum of 75 different plant-based foods. So I set a goal of 100. So far I'm at 74, but those last 26 are getting a little specialized and difficult. Today was a 7 mile run at Long Run Pace (8:45). Wednesday is going to be 12 miles at that pace. BOTW was Saturday night, the Super 'Ssippi Squeeze DIPA from 56 Brewing in Minneapolis. 4.5 / 5.0 on Untappd. Best of health to everyone - forum members and family. Sometimes rest is best - but it's hard to convince ourselves of that. |

Member 3146 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Long run (2.5hr) this morning starting at 4am (newly christened WTF am at my house). Dark and raining at the start. Just raining at the end. Feet are drenched and feel like I was in a bathtub for an hour. Later, 3000yd swim. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Hi all, I've been a bit MIA for a bit. With the promotion and still being down people, life has been a little crazy, but I just got back from vacation and feel like I will be caught up soon maybe. I also realized I have a tri in about 2 months so I should probably start training. Did a short run the other day to test my foot/toe (have been having a pain, think it's a possible stress fracture). It felt okay so I'm going to try going a little further tomorrow. It's also been extremely disgusting here weather-wise. I think it's supposed to be in the 100s on Saturday. Blah. Hope everyone is well! |

Also, for curiosity sake, what is your plan for a 3600m swim? Warmup, drills, paddles, fins, race pace long swim, etc. Curious on what you're doing. And, I forget, what distance are you training for and when? Thanks! Inquiring minds want to know. |

Inquiring minds want to know. 2019 A race is the Michigan Titanium HIM with Full distance MiTi in 2020 the long term goal and what I'm training for with my coach I'm getting tired, but not super worn down. I always appreciate my rest days, but then Monday I'm ready to go again, so it seems like the right training load for me right now. 3600 swim breaks down like this today 600 Warmup (2x100; 4x50, 2x100) Main set is 7 Ladders (100-200-100) Cool down 200 (usually do some backstroke just to remember how) |

Member 3146 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Whew!! It is hot here! I suppose that is to be expected, being mid-July and all, but dang it is smoking outside. I got up at 5am to get in a three hour ride before the heat got too bad. By the time I got home it was already 94F and the sun was blazing. I took the dog on a 20’ stroll that was supposed to be a brick run, but that wasn’t happening at all. Now it is time to hide in the a/c until this breaks. |

Member 3146 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Rest day here for me. I'll be driving up to my folk's house a little later this afternoon (~2hrs). Dad is having surgery to set his leg bones on Tuesday. He should be able to come home after that. He has been in a nursing home since he left the hospital 10 days ago. That sure is depressing! Keep active and healthy, you don't want to end up there! |
