Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kalalau - 2009-12-29 3:53 PM Man, women sure fall apart once they know they got their man, don't they? :-) Sorry to hear about the hospital visit. So what are they saying? I never used to know what back spasms were or what they felt like. Now I know, and they are quite painful. Hard to believe that muscles can just tighten up like that! Very funny, Dave. Apparently it's fun to kick people whilr they're down. The ER doc didn;t seem concerned and that I;d be fine after a couple of days in bed. I didn't cry much at all, so maybe he didn't get just how much it hurt. I was released with prescriptions for percoset, valium and ibuprofin, which works great as long as I am still, otherwise it doesn't seem to do much. We'll see how I am after tomorrow. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That is just amazing that these back things can happen. I am glad that the doctor didn't seem concerned, but it sure is nice to have an explanation of what is going on, why it will get better and won't happen again. I've had some bad ones, and it does get better, and we actually get back to normal. I've never been bed ridden, though I have come close. |

I'm going to make a terribly non-compliant old person; not being independent is the pits! I'm reluctantly in bed for another day. It's getting stronger, and with supervision, I got myself up to go to the bathroom this morning but it still is pretty painful supporting weight. I have a pretty mean shuffle going on, but sitting is harder. Josh made me promise I won't attempt to go downstairs. |

Maybe God knew you would've partied too hard last night and had to subdue you. :-) After all, you have an Ironman to do! :-) Here's hoping we get out of bed in 2010. :-) I'm still working on it. Happy New Year! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi Guys! I hope you're having a Happy New Year so far! I'm getting better, but am still in bed today as opposed to at work. I can almost do as many tricks as the dog: shake, roll over, speak, but he's still got me on "sit." There was no way I could sit at my desk for 8 hours, so I'm at home again. I was going to try to work from home, but then realized that my key fob (vpn random number generator thing) is still at work, so I can't connect. Bummer. 8 more hours of sick leave down the drain. Aqua jogging went well yesterday, until the drugs wore off later and then I was sore. I'm not sure I was doing it "right" but I got to move around for the first time in a week, and it didn't hurt, so I call it a win. :-) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry Becky you had to stay home another day. I hope you can do the aqua jogging again soon, pain-free. It stinks that you are down, but it is temporary and you will be back! You have a great attitude! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm back at work and trying not to take any drugs this afternoon so I can drink [more] at happy hour. :-) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Have fun at Happy Hour, you deserve it! If I was a little closer than Wash. Co., I would come to meet the MD bt'ers. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mmmmm...Happy Hour. Leaving work now. Sorry you can't make it Linda. Maybe we'll all have to meet halfway for a run or bike this year. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It sounded like the happy hour was lots of fun and there were quite a few MD bter's! Dave, let us know how your races go in Florida. It was almost below freezing there this morning. Crazy weather indeed! I know you will fly with that hat on! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Hour was a lot of fun. Luckily I was off work on Friday. ![]() It looks like our Goofy mentor pulled off the double with a: 1:53:13 Half Marathon on Saturday and a 4:05:56 Marathon on Sunday that's amazing!!!! Way to go Dave. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thank you. :-) I didn't feel it at the time I gave it up at mile 14, but sub 4 hours might have been possible had I not had a salad at Macaroni Grill the day before. I just order that thing by habit and when I knew it was a mistake, I didn't want to change the order. In the end I spent about 5 minutes in the potties. When I stopped right after mile 14, I was doing 9s but really didn't think I could keep doing them. In the end, I sort of did. The whole race I never thought I was going to keep doing 9s. Weird. I had breathing problems and leg soreness from the very start, due to the previous day. Wow what a cold weekend. We ran in the sleet on Saturday. And the aid stations were all icy on Sunday, due to everyone's cups being thrown down. Anyway, I am really happy with both times, 5 minutes does not bother me. It is just an interesting note.

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What is everyone thinking about 2010 now? Ok, besides IMFL. :-) Right now, I am booked for Wisconsin but not emotionally invested and not making it very well known. I am also signed up for the Columbia Tri. Looking at the swim from Alcatraz in June. Looks like I am doing the Tobacco Road Marathon in March, and pacing Frederick again in May. I need to find a HIM to do, and some other filler tris. |

I've got Columbia and Eagleman so far. Not sure what else. Would love to do Ragnar again. Will probably throw in some Sprints with my girlfriend (Lums Pond and Cape Henlopen). I might consider JFK if Dave wants to do it again. ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So far, only Columbia, Eagleman, and IMFL for Becky and I. The Frederick half marathon is a strong possibility since it's so close. The rest are all kinda wait and see. |

Yes if you are going to focus on a big race (Dave, Josh, Bec), the whole season is going to be set up around the big event. I'm sure Linda is doing the same around Boston and whichever HIM she picks. And even if you don't have a big main event yet, the prices start rising significantly right around this time of year. So you'll pay more money. And that's if it is still open. The White Lake Half Tri is already full for one of its days. Musselman seems to be hitting my schedule at the right time, I might have to consider that one. JFK.. I have been trying to talk friends into that one. That's up in the air at the moment, we don't have to decide until July. I am locked in as the 4:15 leader for Frederick. I am also in for Tobacco Road Marathon in March in Raleigh, which sold out yesterday. Edited by kalalau 2010-01-20 8:10 PM |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think I have a fear of commitment...i know what races i want to do... i just know the day i register the butterflies and my obsessiveness will start... do i need to register before i tell my 2010 plans? Here r my thoughts: The Rutgers 1/2 marathon and Lincoln tunnel 5K in April... Wykoff, Randolph and Brigantine triathlons...june/july... And my first Marathon...somewhere... I'm sure I will throw in a bunch of 5Ks throughout the season since i enjoy doing them... What race are we all going to do together? I suppose since i am odd man out...if you all agree to a maryland race i will come down. |
