Maybe I won't do the swim after all. I mean who the hell pays a $550 race entry fee and flies halfway across the country to swim in pea soup??? Hope it clears out. I had enough algae in June. |

Master 2621 Almaden Valley, San Jose, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Do blue-green algae pose a risk to competitive swimmers such as triathletes? When organizers establish the schedule and pick a course for a triathlon, they have no way of knowing whether or not a blue-green algae bloom will be present in the swim area. To the degree possible, race organizers are encouraged to establish a course that minimizes the exposure of participants to blue-green algae blooms. Race organizers may also want to consider having a rinse station established near the swimming finish area. All participants are encouraged to minimize the ingestion of water during the course of the event. As is the case in any organized race, participants should seek medical attention if they show any signs of illness during or after the event. |

Pro 4608 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread My podiatrist, who will forever be known as the grim reaper, no matter how much I like or respect him, called tonight and delivered another blow. He read my MRI films and agrees with the radiologist's prognosis. The rupture is about 1.5cm across my fascia and I have a lot of fluid in my foot. I was pain free today and he says it's deceiving, I'm young and healthy so I'll have pain relief quickly but won't be recovered. He said if it were him he'd do the swim and bike and DNF the race. But he's done 4 Ironmans and has another coming up. How can he possibly know how I feel? I have about a .05% chance of finishing this race. It's time to let go and focus on the future. I'll be there next week and I'll join you all for the swim and bike and then in T2, where I was a volunteer last year thinking about being there a year later, I'll withdraw from the race and deal with it. This really sucks. I really wanted a shred of hope that I could do this, but it looks like it's not in the cards for me. I'm devastated. |
