D001 - 2009-03-08 6:06 PM Hmmm, where is Bunbury, Australia? 'Cause there's someone who just posted an intro and if it's near Sydney, you may have a new training partner.

Lol nowhere near Sydney but I will go say hi!

kaqphin - 2009-03-07 10:46 PM I just had my first DNF Im really upset and mad at the whole thing....

oh Cat!

what happened?

Well they cancelled the swim and made it a wade for 400m...

I fell on the uneven surface/murky water/heavy waves and hurt my ankle...continued...did it again... limped to an official and they made me walk on the sand uphill about 1.5ks to transition... by which stage I was crying really bad... then spent half an hour in medical....

Looks like a sprained ankle...not too bad... but bad enough that I couldnt have run... I said I should have pulled out when they cancelled the swim!

Why'd they cancel the swim?

Well it was grey, windy, over cast... with a strong current and swell... because this was the enticer distance they have to make sure the weaker swimmers can finish so while they apologised for the change they said they have to cater for everyone...

The report from the Olmypic Distance was that the conditions were tough... but I would have preferred that to the alternative I ended up with!

Well, you're a strong swimmer, so I can see that. (Especially given what happened during the "wade.")

In hindsight perhaps I should have gone with my instincts to pull out at the time... oh well!

I actually understand it... but I think the wade wasnt a true alternative so maybe they should have just cancelled it together... because no one would have trained for a 'wade' seems silly to add a new element on race day...

Whats wrong with ride-run??? Especially since they didnt announce it until 10 minutes before race start...

I'm surprised they did a "wade," since it's not a tri-event, and would use different muscles than people had trained with, etc.

Run-bike-run would have made more sense. (But ick!) Or just bike-run....

I guess they wanted people to feel that they were getting their money's worth....

Well, I'm toast. The clock on my computer just changed.... it's now 3:47 AM. So I'm off to get some sleep (finally).

And even though today didn't go so well for you, I think that the "big picture" is better now than it was awhile back... You've been healthy and able to train, and I haven't seen those unhappy pictures that you used to post on your blog when you had tummy-troubles.

Take care of your ankle! Let us know what the doctor says. Hopefully, it'll be better soon.

And now, before I fall over onto the keyboardddddddddddddddzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........

kns57 - 2009-03-07 11:27 PM It is hard to get hooked too quickly. You have to let time pass to let your levels get back up. So it is really easy to play just for a little while and then walk away until the next day.

so, i always hestiate to accept invites to the games

i feel like i'll be opening my profile to everyone that plays them

Your profile can only be opened to those that you have invited to see your profile. So only your friends can ask you to join their teams. But you really don't have to play with anyone, just collect people to be on your team to give you crew members so that you can do harder jobs.

Not entirely true.  When you start playing the games, you do open your profile up a little bit more.  The games can pull anything from your profile.  When you play Mafia Wars, you do see things from friend's profiles pop up once in awhile.

I'm not really a big fan, so I've stopped with most of them and blocked them.

That really sucks!  Sorry your ankle hurts.  I hope it feels better soon.  I wouldn't worry about the DNF...better to pull out than try to keep going and hurting yourself.

Ok, so I'm still "new" to this sport.  Is that typical/acceptable?  To turn to swim into a WADE???
Seems like that is just asking for injuries such as yours.
