2nd Week's Team Standings for the June Challenge.....

It looks like we have a new leader....!

1st place - JUNE BUGS - 42.3%
2nd place - Taser Running - 39.8%
3rd place - Team Trifecta - 38.8%

What will happen NEXT week? Will Team June Bugs keep the lead? Will Team Taser Running break out the TASERS? Will Team Trifecta put on a strong showing and move up?

Stay tuned. The month is only 47% completed. The third update will be posted next week.

Stay motivated! Keep running! (And don't forget the secondary challenge: the POST PADDING challenge!)

It is easier for me to list the places I am not interested in seeing rather than those I want to see. Even then, given the chance, I'd go most anywhere. The only thing that limits my wants is war, natural disasters  and plague. the only thing that limits my being able to travel is $$ and money. The universal limiters!

kcarroll - 2009-06-14 9:20 AM Weekend plans turned upside down.  Made my nephew's 8th grade graduation (very cute and he won lots of honors) but my mom took a huge fall.  Broke the right proximal humerus in 3 places.  ED doc didn't think she'd need surgery (toes and fingers crossed) but one of the fractures didn't appear to be cleanly aligned.  So will get her into the orthopod and see where it goes.   Nasty break that is tough to immobilize.  Anyhow, getting things sorted out in VT.  Not sure when I'm heading home now.  If one must find bright spots, she's pretty conked out on pain meds and I can't leave her so lots of BT time this morning.  Sick.

So sorry about your mom. Thank goodness for pain meds.

Mel -

I live in chicago suburbs?  Always lots to do in the summer!  Who all would be going (family trip or just adults?)  Where would you stay?

I would say pm me (and you can) but that wouldn't help post padding... :-P

Good (big) museums in Chicago:

Shedd Aquarium
Field Museum
Museum of Science & Industry - - Harry Potter exhibit until September...I've heard its great!  (I need to go!!)
Art Museum

Other cool to see:

Union Station (cool walk through the main hall area - some movies taped there like Unforgettables)
The Bean/ Millienium Park
John Hancock
Sears Tower

Depending on how much time and budget - I would suggest taking an architectural tour - - whether it be downtown or in Oak Brook where lots of Frank Lloyd Wright stuff is.  They actually have a segway tour in downtown AND one along the river...both would be very cool

Also cool - during the summer there is a free trolley that runs most days and stops at most of the tourist attraction - -
can see schedule info at chicagotransit.com

Which will also what I suggest for Cubs game - DO NOT try to drive...it is yucky/crazy and expensive to park.  Drive somewhere and then take the train...Take the Red line (CTA/El)  - it will literally drop you off at the front of Wrigley Field.  (I can try to help you figure out best way to get to red line if need...)

This will be my last one about Chicago...(and please realize I've not lived here all my life...so there is SOOO much to see and do that I don't know about - but this is very basic)

FOOD:
- MUST HAVE CHICAGO style PIZZA!!!  whether it be Lou Malnati's or Giordano's or Aurelios or ?!?!  I know you said you don't eat too much greasy...but this is worth the splurge - and one piece is usually enough!!
Also depending on if you're staying in burbs:
- Portillo's is REALLY good.  It's a hot dog place and polish sausage and all that stuff - but they actually have pretty good salads too.
- Other "chicago" known places - Billy Goats Tavern (kinda in the greasy food though) but they are the place from the SNL skit: "Cheezborger! Cheezborger! No fries, cheeps! No Pepsi, Coke!"?  There are a couple locations - one is on Navy Pier, while not the "original" place...Navy Pier is pretty cool too (big ferris wheel there...)
-Also there is a popcorn place - that silly me hasn't been to - but is supposed to be really good - called garrett popcorn which has the "Chicago" mix which is caramel corn and cheddar popcorn...which sounds kinda gross - but is yummy!
- Signature room in John Hancock building (the other tall building in Chicago)  Is a good place for lunch - not terribly expensive.  I've never been there but my mom RAVES about the bathrooms.  She says the woman's bathroom on the 96th floor (or something like that) have a FANTASTIC view :-D

Places I want to go, in order would be... Hawaii, Fiji, Rome, Venice

We were supposed to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon but my hubby is not good on planes so we drove (somewhat) locally instead. Now, it is an ongoing joke each year that we will go for our NEXT anniversary. My 9 yr old says that he will take me someday when he is rich...either way I am not holding my breath! ha ha ha
