Had another crap-tacular day a work... doing physical labour for 6 hours after being at a desk for 5 years, really does suck. I sure hope I don't get injured because it's like going from the couch to running a 10 k over night... NOT advisable. Yeah but you are a stud....so you can handle it!!!! sure...by passing out on the couch for an hour... and now soaking in a super hot bath or should I say 1/2 soaking... cause that's all of me that fits in a tub @ once... (sorry for that visual folks. LOL) You have your laptop in the BATH?????

Here's a question for the group....What can I do about cramping that occurs in the posterior tibalias of one of my feet every time I swim? I feel I have enough fluid within me. This morning before I swam I had at least 55 oz of fluid in the form of water. I feel nutrition-wise I was good too. It is so annoying....... Thanks Ok my advice is usually a bit different on this topic and usually slammed... When I'm swimming this is one of the big things I see people doing that could instantly speed them up, which is the are dragging their feet and not pointing their toes. when people ask me for some tips and I mention that they need to point their toes, nearly 100% of the time I get an answer saying they tried it and got cramps, so they stopped doing that. When I started working with a swim coach I was not good at pointing my feet, it was one of the first things she had me do was to point my feet all the time when swimming. So go off for a week to practice on my drills and my feet kept cramping, at the wall, after turns, 10 yards in to the lap, all the time. Then I remembered she told me this would happen since my feet/ lower extremities are just not used to it, and that it's a good sign since it' means I'm pointing my feet, just suck it up and keep at it. after a couple of week I noticed that my feet wouldn't cramp till 1000 yards into a work out, then I could make it 2000 yards, then it just went away. You learn how to point the feet without tensing up your muscles to the point that you cramp up. since when most people attempt to point thier toes they tense up the entire leg think of it this way, today just take your shoes off and start walking around on your tippie toes, like a ballerina. See how long it takes until you get some cramping going on. maybe today you make it 5 minutes, {or 45 people laughing at you }If you were to start doing this every day do you believe that your body would adapt and you could make it 7 or 8 minutes next week? Look how are feet are most of the day, when standing/walking or even when you are sitting down, it's diferent to have them pointed. I'm not discounting hydration, but i really believe that if you make a honest effort to streamline the legs/feet without tensing up so much it will get better and those cramps will go away. |

CLOSED Bopper - 2010-01-21 8:42 AM Good morning folks... so, I was planning on riding to work this morning, but my stoooopid alarm clock failed to go off this morning. So, as I was running late for even driving to work, I decided it was unwise to bike. Still feeling like I've been beaten with a large stick, but otherwise unscathed from the last two days of physical labour. Today, there is some programming to do, so I won't be going out to the factory for a bit.... a little bit of aclimatizing is good. Maybe I'll even have some energy after work to go for a swim. Hope you have an easy day today Kevin...... |

Hey Gary what about have our toes pointed sightly inward? My coach has asked us to make sure we have kind of relaxed "floppy" feet with our toes pointed in. Now my feet are naturally REALLY floppy...the curse of really loose ligaments........ Thoughts? |

Now my feet are naturally REALLY floppy...the curse of really loose ligaments........ Thoughts? i have people watching me as I'm sitting here kicking my legs trying to see if my feet are inward or not,,, I think that happens naturally when you are kicking from your hips which is good, Just now it was hard for me to kick from my knees which my feet inward.. so maybe that's it. Floppy feet are good though better propulsion. long winded response going nowhere One of the biggest things I figured out on swimming is there are different ways to do the same thing, There is an older way, and the newer way.. They are both pretty much the same thing. when the main masters coach would give me tips he would use an analogy to explain it that I might understand,, then I would attempt to repeat what he wanted me to do with my analogy that he didn't understand.. <what am i trying to say> when I would explain both analogies to a different coach she would say "oph NO" and give me a totally different explaination to do the exact same thing sometimes a coach will see something that you are specifically doing and is searching for a way to get you to do that so they will give you examples or keys that in the literally sense doesn't really work but when you attempt to use that info yourself it produces the correct response. I was working on reducing my stroke count last year,, and they were giving me tips and things to key on.. you know which one clicked with me and provided instant help.. Nothing swimming related.. When I asked if it was like benching a heavy weight for 2-3 reps, vs doing a light weight for 20 reps.. both coaches looked at me like I was crazy.. when I explained I was thinking of grabbing lots of water so it's harder to move that water, vs quickly pushing my hands through with not as much resistance, then they started to see how my thought process was.. So now I'm always thinking move lots of water in one stroke vs a little water for many .. what was the point I was trying to make again ????

OK Gary......re pulling lots of water.......since having my stroke kinda fixed up by a number of private sessions last year I notice that when I pull my fingers feel weird. Its almost as if they are vibrating. And I wonder if this is a good sign or a bad sign. I can FEEL the water for sure........something i never really felt before. Whatcha think? |
