When are you guys going to start Jorge's winter cycling plan?  Maybe we can start up at the same time?

My quest for a BQ ended tonight.  So let's get the drainer set up!

I'm probably starting soon.  On my brand spanking new trainer.  My old one was luckily under warranty and instead of fixing it they gave me a new fluid trainer.  Thanks Blackburn!  It seems to run pretty well after it warms up.

I've got two issues I need to fix and they're both run related.

I think I need another year or two of fitness, before I give it a serious attempt.   And I'm not ready to devote 8-9 hours a week every week to running.

After talking to two different coaches, it's pretty obvious its my biking that's holding back my race results.

titeloops - 2010-10-08 5:55 PMSo my training program has called for me to do a 5000 yard swim the past coupla weeks. I try! I've even made it to 4500 once. Today I only made it to 3000. I swear, anything over an hour pool swim makes me want to drown myself!! You peeps get as bored as I do on long pool swims?
Nah. I did 6000 a couple times preparing for a 5k swim in May that I didn't get to swim.

To provide a counterpoint to this.  I did the 5k (Lostsheep threw up something about a wife maybe going into labor or some other weak excuse as a reason for not going ;-) ) and never did more than 4000 total in any one session, to my memory.  And even then I never did more than 2.5k straight.  I wanted to poke my eyes out during that 2.5k.  I call BS on the need to do 5000 straight.  If asked to do that I'd probably do something like 3x1000 and tag on 4x500 or something similar.

Agreed. 6000yrd weren't necessary, but I'd like to think that it made me feel a whole lot more comfortable knowing I could do it, and over that distance I learned my pacing per 1000 and how it's effected ...

If you swim 3-3.5K 3 times a week you'll be more than ready for B2B.  You've got to factor in the incoming tide as well.

Why did they say biking is holding you back?  Looking at your splits from recent races it looks like you're having some solid bike and run times.

I'm trying to decide when I want to start Jorge's program.  Can't decide if I should start now or give me knee some rest.  I think it would be a lot of fun if we all started at the same time.  When are you guys going to start?

had a big weekend planned, but it sort of fell apart. Was planning 2 hours on the bike sat, followed by a 10 mile brick run. Sunday was gonna be a century with 3 mile brick. On saturday, I got in a ride with a group of dudes who twisted my arm to stop by the local pub at mile 30, to check the Bama/SC score. (sorry bout that Bama guys. But my family is all from columbia. we are big gamecock fans. less they are plaing the heels) Anyway, the score check turned into about a six pack of beers. we took the short way home. Was a fun couple of miles, with a good beer buzz.

Got up on sunday to meet a group to knock out a century. All 3 text me 10 minutes prior and say they cant make it. Various excuses. So I head out on what was a long, hilly, cold then hot, boring, lonely 93 miler. Skipped the brick.

Thursday is long run day for me this week. Gonna try and get in 18. That will be my longest run ever. sort of looking forward to it, which is weird, I never look forward to a long run.

Rocketman(overall results)  38th swim, 61th bike, 46th run.
FL 70.3(AG results)  11th swim, 36th bike, 18th run.

They both said my bike is my biggest limiter.

I would also like to start the winter program at the same time.

IMO 93 miles solo is better than 100+ with groups.  You need that time to learn how to quite your mind.

Alabama stunk it up big time.  I said at the beginning of the year they would loose at least 2 games.

Do you want to place relatively the same in each discipline?  Not you, specifically, that's just a general question.  In my last race I was (overall) 850th swim, 692nd bike and 1405th run.  Before that I was (wrt AG) 31st swim, 9th bike, 21st run.  So I guess my biking is the only thing that's keeping me in the race!

I would also like to start the winter program at the same time.
I think Jason is ready to go as soon as the program kicks off but I would be alright with waiting for after B2B so Todd can join the fun. Actually the more I think about it the more I'd like to wait a bit so we can all do it together.  I've really enjoyed the mentor group and I think it would be a lot of fun and really motivational for us all to be focused on the same training for a while.

Dec. 1st!

You sure you're not going to want take a break and to go into hibernation?  You've been putting up some really solid volume all summer.

I'm really interested to hear how B2B is run/how they handle logistics.  They guys putting it on (Setup Events) do a lot of races in VA.   I'm looking at a couple of them for A races next year.

That's a real possibility. Don't wait on me to start, it may be Jan 1 before I'm ready. And I agree with the earlier statement about our group. This thread and the Iron Distance forums are really the only parts of this site I visit anymore. This may be a little cheesy, but we should try and do a race next year. I'll buy a round of beers afterwards.

I was thinking the same thing last night.  Be we would need to pick a sprint or oly so you long course guys don't get carried away.

I would be interested in cycling plan and doing a race with the group here.  After Todd buys the first round I will buy the second!   As you know I am doing the B2B full and would be able to start the program mid November or December.  However, if the group does not want to wait I am good either way.  I have raced with Mark and Todd so far and would love for the group to meet up for a race.  I know Todd is in NC and Mark and Drew are in Alabama.  I am in Florida.  Not sure the new people that signed up on the second round of mentor participants.  I am open and would love for all of us to do a race next year.
