Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning Ghoulies. This will be another quick fly by. YARD is calling LOUD. Sorry I missed the margaritas and cookout. DH and I went to the local hotel to watch the wedding. We sit in the bar and eat and talk smack about the wedding guests and critique the outfits. Okay, it is better with my female friends. He is just not the wedding dress connoisseur. However, he can spot the cleavage and nice legs very well. We had a phenomenal storm here. It took out a tree just on the other side of our house. We sat on the porch watching it through the "big screen" with the dog under the chair vibrating the whole porch with fear. Okay, later ghoulies. time to get muddy. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good afternoon Ghoulies! I took my son fishing today. He was up at 6:00 ready to go, I hadn't planned on going until after 10:00. So we did a few things around the house this morning then headed over to our friends at the lake. My son and his friend fished for about 2 hours, I was fishing, too, but they were having better luck. I did catch the biggest prize of the day. That would be my son after he fell in! The boys were fishing off the back of the boat, that was docked, and my son was walking backwards and ran out of places to step. He lost his pole in the water, but I was able to get that out, too. Once we got him dried off and calmed down I let the boys play for awhile until my friend came home from baseball with her other son. All in all it was a good day. My son wants to go again, and he was told he is welcome to go fishing there any time. Now I'm thinking a quick nap and then I'm not sure what I'll get into. Tomorrow morning I think I'm going to take my pup for a walk around our loop so she can swim. Then in the afternoon I'm going to go hide in the woods for my friend and his pup who do search and rescue. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had my son's first communion today--and hubby's birthday was yesterday--had a barbecue after church this afternoon to celebrate both of them. My mom-in-law is spending the night before she heads home to Idaho. I did not get my swim in yesterday--dang gym (see my logs)--did not get a ride in today, although I knew that wouldn't be happening. I was hoping to go get a ride in tomorrow morning while mom-in-law was here to sray with the kids, but the priest was laying it on thick with the kids today about how they need to come to church tomorrow, First Communion is not a graduation but the beginning, etc. I suppose I should show my son some follow through and make sure we get to church tomorrow. I know, rough life, huh? ![]() |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a training question: I have my 1st sprint of the season on Saturday. I should be tapering this week. My normal weeks have looked an aweful lot like taper weeks, though. I have a century cycle planned for 2 weeks after the tri. My longest ride to date is about 20 miles. (longest ride this year, not ever). I don't want to ramp up the bike mileage this week, or hit the weights or hills much either--I am undertrained and want to do fairly well at the tri. (I am very worried that I won't do very well). Here's the main question: when/how much do I up the mileage? And, should I back down and do a shorter distance at the event? The girls I am riding with probably will still do the century--but I can choose anything from 15 to 80 miles without any penalty from the event organizers. I don't have to decide on that until I pick up my packet. Help!!! |

With cycling you don't have to follow the 10% rule like you do with running since cycling isn't as hard on the body. You can add miles rather quickly. I don't know if that is enough time to get up to 100 miles though. 80 may be doable but you're going to hurt for a few days afterward. 50 would easily be attainable. Just my opinion, Hopefully Neal or Bill will chime in. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning ghoulies! Yesterday was one of the best training days I've had in awhile. Managed an 8 mile run in the morning and a 64 mile ride in the afternoon. Weather was perfect: 70, tons of sun, and little wind. I'm hopping on the bike again this morning and then have a group run and OWS this afternoon. Should be fun! |

Just my opinion, Hopefully Neal or Bill will chime in. Good advice. Take it easy the two days before the sprint and you should be good to go. As for adding mileage you can definitely add more without the risk of injury like running. If you can get a longer ride in early this week (not too close to the race) then do it. After the sprint I would work on putting some miles in and try to go long a couple of times. As for how to choose what distance to race you will be the best judge of that. See how you feel after your longest ride. If not too bad, then you can probably ride 30-40% more of the distance and be okay. Also if the century is a nice leisurely one with plenty of stops then going much longer than you have in training will be easier too, especially if you have some company to ride with. |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Evening Ghouls. Well, today's half was nothing to write home about. I felt great through mile 10 and was even well ahead of my planned pace. Then I stepped into a pot hole and the knee went postal at mile 11. Since this was a nice to do run, I decided to walk the rest of the way in. I'm icing and chewing advil and the swelling has gone down. The race itself was incredibly well done for a local event. The volunteers were mostly from the high school lacrosse teams and cheerleading squads. Those kids did a terrific job and made the race a lot more fun. So, this is one to keep on the future race list. Big shout out to the kids at mile 5/10 who were handing out bottled water and home made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. You were the best!!!! Now it is time to regroup and get the knee back on track. MCM is the focus now for the rest of the year. |

It was that goal that made me quit pushing and walk to the finish. Apart from the knee, I feel much better than I did after last month's half mary. Cardio and leg strength are getting stronger. Just got to work on the knee. I put a call into my PT this afternoon. |
